Play Santa for seniors this season Home Instead Senior Care is offering Etobians the chance to play Santa to deserving seniors this year. The Be a Santa to a Senior program, which launched this week and runs until Dec. 13, is a partnership between Home Instead, local retailers and community organizations to make sure isolated seniors receive gifts and companionship this holiday season. “Be a Santa to a Senior is another way to say ‘thank you’ to the many seniors who have made such important contributions to our community throughout the years,” Home Instead spokesperson Greg Bechard said in a statement. The Etobicoke Home Instead Senior Care office will collect and distribute gifts to seniors who might otherwise spend the holidays alone. Christmas trees will go up in various locations across the Greater Toronto Area – in Etobicoke at the Shoppers Home Health Care at 5230 Dundas St. W. (at the Six Points Plaza) and Tapestry Village Gate West at 15 Summerland Terrace – featuring ornaments with the first names of individual seniors and their respective gift requests. Interested holiday shoppers are invited to pick an ornament off one of the special Be a Santa to a Senior Christmas trees, buy the items on the list, and return them (unwrapped) to the same location, along with the ornament attached. The Etobicoke Home Instead Senior Care office will then enlist the volunteer help of its staff, seniorcare business associates, non-profit workers, and others to collect, wrap and distribute the gifts. For more information, call 416239-2200.

Firefighter remembered at full-honours funeral Work-related brain cancer claims life of Etobicoke firefighter Randy Burch CYNTHIA REASON creason@insidetoronto.com Five years ago, veteran Etobicoke firefighter Randy “Duke” Burch expressed his wish to live long enough to walk his two daughters

down the aisle. Stricken with a brain tumour at the time – attributed to his exposure to the multitude of toxic chemicals he encountered over 16 years as a frontline firefighter – Burch nonetheless took time out to participate

in Mask Up, a safety video touting the merits of wearing a mask on the job to prevent illnesses such as his own. In the 15-minute Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) video, which is still today circulated

amongst firefighters across Ontario, Burch talked frankly about his 2003 diagnosis with work-related brain cancer – and the toll his illness took on him and his family. “It’s been hard at times. My >>>HUNDREDS, page 16

Mimico native suits up for Sunday’s Grey Cup Jeff Johnson didn’t play football until Grade 12 CYNTHIA REASON creason@insidetoronto.com For a Mimico kid who didn’t even touch a football until he was a senior in high school, Jeff Johnson’s appearance in this weekend’s centennial Grey Cup in front of a hometown crowd is a “dream come true.” “If I could name the perfect scenario, it would be to play in the 100th Grey Cup in front of my family and friends here in Toronto,” the 35-year-old veteran Toronto Argonaut running back told The Guardian this week. “It’s an absolute dream come true. Could I have scripted it better? No, absolutely not.” A late blooming high school football star, Johnson was more into hockey, soccer and volleyball during his elementary school days at John English Junior Middle School and in his first few years of high school at Etobicoke Collegiate Institute. It wasn’t until Grade 12, in fact, that the 5’10” Etobicoke native was convinced to try out for the Rams football team. But after scoring five touchdowns in his very first game as an Etobicoke Ram, Johnson’s talent was made abundantly clear. “He was every coach’s dream,” said the Rams’ then-head coach

Etobicoke native and Toronto Argonaut running back Jeff Johnson, (33) will appear in the 100th Grey Cup at Rogers Centre this weekend against the Calgary Stampeders.

Ha n k Sp e n c e r. “He w o r k e d extremely hard, he was extremely talented, and he and another guy on the team spent a lot of time in the weight room. He could bench press 300 pounds by the time he left high school...he was just an outstanding young man.” It came as no surprise to Spencer, then, that after Johnson helped the Rams “smash” longtime rivals the Richview Saints for the Etobicoke championship in 1995, he was

heavily recruited by colleges and universities. The newfound celebrity status came as a shock to Johnson, though: “All of a sudden my name was on every university scout’s list and I had all this attention around me.” After considering his options, York University emerged as Johnson’s school of choice – one, because it allowed him to stay here in Toronto, and two because he was offered the chance to start as a Yeoman in his

rookie year. Despite devoting much of his time to studying hard as a kinesiology student, Johnson also excelled on the field and was named Canadian Interuniversity Sport’s outstanding rookie of the year in 1996. He was also named an Ontario University Athletics First-Team All-Star in three of his four years playing for York. Although he finished his fourth year at York undrafted, Johnson ultimately got called up to play in

the Canadian Football League (CFL) by the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, where he played for two years before signing with the Argos in 2002. Now in his 11th season with the Argos, Johnson has proved ageless. Although limited in the ground attack to just three rushes for 10 yards this season, his receiving totals – 10 catches for 154 yards – mark the third best of his 13-year career. A workhorse, he also recorded nine special teams tackles, tied for third best on the team. A career highlight – one Johnson hopes to repeat this Sunday – was winning the Grey Cup with the Argos back in 2004 at Frank Clair Stadium in Ottawa. “It was incredible. It’s the Grey Cup – it’s the biggest event in Canada every year and I was this little kid from Etobicoke who never thought in a million years that he’d be playing professional football,” Johnson said. “I was representing Toronto running down the field on the opening kickoff and trying to make a play. I can’t even describe the feeling, but I’m sure it’ll come rushing back this Sunday.” This week’s 100th Grey Cup Festival in Toronto – including a raucous pep rally at Dundas Square Tuesday night – has allowed Johnson and his teammates to be boosted by a hometown crowd hungry for its first home championship since 1952. And Johnson is eager to deliver just that in the game against the Calgary Stampeders. “What am I most looking forward to Sunday? Hoisting the Grey Cup at the end of the game,” he said. ~ With files from Norm Nelson

Young hockey players skate with their NHL idols CYNTHIA REASON creason@insidetoronto.com With the NHL lockout still dragging on, Tomas Kaberle hasn’t gotten much ice time with his Montreal Canadiens lately – so the former Maple Leaf took advantage of his downtime last week to skate with some junior Canadiens in Etobicoke. Kaberle and Mimico native David Clarkson, a forward for the New Jersey Devils, laced up alongside 60 young players from The Queensway Canadiens’ tyke and novice teams Friday morning at Mimico Arena. “It’s fun. They asked me to do it last week and I said sure – I’ve got lots of time with the lockout and it’s great to see the kids having fun,” said Kaberle, the Toronto Maple Leafs’ secondhighest scoring defenceman. “Growing up, playing at the rink, we were all looking up to the older players and the professional players

– and now we get to be that position where we get to play with them, shoot some pucks, give them some passes.” For Clarkson, who recently built a home in Mimico, the decision to participate last week’s Queensway Canadiens PA Day hockey clinic was an “easy yes.” giving back “I was one of them one day, and I think we should be able to give back in little ways, especially for me in a place where I grew up,” he said, noting that he played lacrosse with the Mimico Mountaineers. “I told the kids that this is a game that’s meant to be fun. You know, you’ve got to work hard at anything you do in life, but people sometimes forget that hockey’s a game and you’ve got to enjoy it – at this age especially.”

For young aspiring NHLers like Rhys Robb and Adrian Violo, getting the chance to skate with – and score against – professional players like Kaberle and Clarkson was a “dream.” “It was really, really good,” said Rhys, 8. “My favourite part was shooting a slapshot against Kaberle. He said I could beat him anytime.” The experience was also a thrill for the parents in the stands. “I think this is great. For a PA Day, it’s a great way to spend the day,” said Matthew MacKay, dad to five-yearold novice player Calum. “The kids have been working so hard all fall and this feels like a nice reward for all that hard work. It’s also an inspiration for the kids – they see these professional guys coming out here and working hard, still working on their skating and all that. It’s great.”

Grey Cup offers time to reconnect

T

his Sunday’s Grey Cup is more than just an opportunity to experience an annual celebration of a storied Canadian tradition. For Torontonians, this city is on display as the rest of the country watches. Being the 100th game, it’s a milestone event and we should be proud to be hosts. But the football game is also an opportunity for us to reconnect with and celebrate the city’s rich history in the sport. The first Grey Cup game was played at Toronto’s Rosedale Field on Dec. 4, 1909. The University of Toronto Varsity Blues defeated the Parkdale Canoe Club 26-6. our view Of the 100 Grey Cup games, Toronto’s hosted nearly half of City has long them at places such as Varsity and great Stadium, Exhibition Stadium and now the Rogers Centre. football history In addition to the Varsity and Parkdale teams – as well as the Argonauts – Toronto also once had a Balmy Beach team competing. Players such as Ted Reeve (a former Argonaut and Balmy Beach player) are enshrined in the city’s sporting history. Reeve’s name now adorns a sports facility in East York. Much has changed as Canadian football has evolved. While interest in the Argonauts may have waxed and waned in recent years, the city’s connection to football remains strong. There’s a number of Toronto youth teams in the Central Ontario Minor Football League. Several high schools offer playing opportunities at different levels of competition and two universities, York and U of T, have varsity teams. A number of players on both of Sunday’s championship finalists, the Calgary Stampeders and the Argonauts, also have connections to the city. The great thing is, there are ways to celebrate and reconnect with the sport even if you don’t have tickets to the game. There are plenty of ancillary events taking place in the city. Also, treat this game as an opportunity to reach out to friends with whom you’ve had a connection through the sport. Perhaps you went to games together or watched them on television or played together in high school. When people get together, events like these can unite citizens and neighbourhoods. Friendships can be rekindled. New relationships can be forged. By hosting the milestone event, Toronto and its historic connection to Canadian football is being recognized. We should take this opportunity to renew and refresh the friendships that developed through our own connections to the sport. Toronto Community News is a division of Metroland Media Group Ltd. Colle on executive committee a good move by Mayor Ford

T

here have been a lot of dumb moves by the Mayor Rob Ford administration over the past year. But last Friday, the right-wing mayor and his so-very conservative team made a very smart move, as they invited Eglinton-Lawrence Councillor Josh Colle to sit on their executive committee. Colle is a first-term councillor, and one of the more prominent voices — some would call him the de facto leader — of council’s so-called “mushy middle.” Now, that is a deceptively unkind term, to describe a group of councillors who essentially bring the kind of pragmatism that one would hope comes to nuts-andbolts municipal government, keeping their place on the political spectrum generally to themselves. More than the hated left, this group has been the real bane of Mayor Ford’s existence on the floor of council. They have proven themselves anything but mushy, as they rejected the mayor’s budget, derailed his plans to build a subway

THE CITY

david nickle

instead of light rail lines, replaced his TTC board of directors and approved a plastic bag ban for January of next year. The mayor and his team have so far responded with glares and threats of electoral retribution. But as 2013 approaches, that strategy is proving evermore hollow, particularly as the mayor’s personal troubles stack up. Bringing Colle onto the executive committee could signal a very intelligent shift. Colle has made it clear he’s going to vote independently, whether he’s sitting on the mayor’s team or not. That doesn’t seem to have dissuaded anyone in extending the invitation. And it shouldn’t. Colle has proven himself to be a leader among the middle. It was his amendment to the budget this

year that reversed cuts championed by the mayor and the budget chief. He’s often at or near the middle of the compromises that pull that middle vote one way or another. And over the next two years, the Ford administration has to have some wins. If 2012 was a lesson in anything, it was humility: that however great a mandate Rob Ford received in 2010 when he was elected, he can’t count on that alone to bring about consensus on council. If he wants to succeed, he’ll have to follow the example of other mayors and seek consensus. With Colle onside, he will have a means to determine how to make those compromises earlier, and more strategically. It could mean a balanced budget that passes with the consent of council. It could, if he plays it right, mean a rebirth for the Ford mayoralty. n D a v i d Ni c k l e i s T h e Villager’s City Hall columnist. His column appears every Thursday. To the editor: I am 10 years old and in Grade 5. I love sports and participate in many extracurricular activities in my school, and this teachers’ conflict is hitting kids like a ton of bricks. It came out of nowhere. They didn’t ask us what we wanted. Did they think this wouldn’t affect us when indeed it did? All kids in schools are affected by this horrible mess. It’s a disgrace to children and parents in all of Ontario. Is there even an end to all of this? Does this mean that the extra-curricular activities will never be reinstated ever or just for the year? What happens to parents who can’t afford athletic activities outside of the school for their kids? We need answers now. Our education doesn’t only occur in the classrooms. It takes place on the playing fields, in the gymnasiums, on the diamonds and in so many other locations that extra-curricular activities take students. In closing, we need teachers back. It’s not their needs, it’s ours. How it gets done is up to the province and the unions. We learn to get along in the classrooms, and the province and teachers should too. Kayla Herrington

Correction

Editing affects author’s point A letter to the editor in the Nov. 15 edition of The Etobicoke Guardian with headline ‘Pitching in the right thing to do’ contained incorrect information. The word ‘not’ was edited out and in turn altered the author’s point. The sentence should have read: The recent rain we had did not run through freely through the drainage system. The Guardian regrets the error.

Guys and Dolls delights on stage MARIA TZAVARAS etg@insidetoronto.com If you want to see a musical that’s lively, funny and a show the whole family can enjoy, Etobicoke Musical Productions, Guys and Dolls, is the one to watch. It’s a great show with talented performers. From the ad-libs to the set and costumes, even if you’ve seen this show before, you will love this classic musical all over again. Based on two short stories by Damon Runyon, with music and lyrics by Frank Loesser and book by Jo Swerling and Abe Burrows, Guys and Dolls transports audiences back to 1950’s New York City, where gamblers, gangsters and showgirls are looking to hit the big time. But the lesson in this story is when you want to make it big, sometimes you have to risk big, whether that be with your money or your heart. This story follows a group of crap shooters, led by Nathan Detroit (Nick Sabetti), who arranges illegal crap games for the rest of the gamblers. It also follows the plight of

the women who love them, but are having trouble getting them to settle down. Namely, Hot Box dancer, Adelaide (Isobel Truman) who has been engaged to Nathan for 14 years, and Sister Sarah Brown (Andria Angelosante) from the Salvation Army, who’s in love with Sky Masterson (Ted Ambrose). Meanwhile, at the local mission, Salvation Army members, including Arvide Abernathy (Bob Deutsch), are trying to convert these sinners and get them to attend a prayer meeting, or risk having their chapter closed. Through these characters, the audience is taken from Broadway to Havana, the Hot Box nightclub to the Sally Ann Mission, as they take us on a journey of finding love, finding the Lord and the highs and lows of betting it all. The characters in this show are caricature-like of themselves, but so individually likeable. This includes gamblers Big Julie (Kevin Dunne), Harry the Horse ( Julian Monardo), Benny Southstreet (Tom Roedding) and Nicely-Nicely Johnson

(Harvey Cooperberg), who each entertain, especially with their great one-liners. The six Hot Box girls are both fantastic singers and dancers, whose talent is showcased in several scenes including ones in the Hot Box nightclub, and in the ensemble numbers. Sabetti is amazing as the suave and charming Nathan, and Ambrose has great comedic talent and is believable as the charming gambler with the conflicted heart. Truman is fantastic as the “never a bride” Adelaide, and this role perfectly showcases her talent. Anglosante plays Sarah with a great combination of sweetness and conviction, while both women showcase their stellar vocal abilities. This show is entertaining and energetic, and a fantastic way to kickoff the season. Guys and Dolls runs until Dec. 1, 8 p.m., with 2 p.m. matinees on Nov. 25 and Dec. 1, Burnhamthorpe Auditorium, 500 The East Mall. Admission tickets are $27. Call the box office at 416248-0410.

Condition affects one in 10,000 to 20,000 children A story on page 3 of the Nov. 16 edition of The Etobicoke Guardian, headlined ‘Grandmother makes a run for liver research’, contained an error. NOTICE OF PUBLIC CONSULTATION CENTRE #3 MUNICIPAL CLASS ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT STUDY WEST VAUGHAN SEWAGE SERVICING City of Vaughan The Regional Municipality of York (York Region) completed the Water and Wastewater Master Plan Update in November 2009. At that time, the need for additional Regional sewer servicing capacity was identified for the West Vaughan area (the Project) to meet future anticipated growth demands until the year 2051. York Region has initiated a Municipal Class Environmental Assessment study (Class EA) under Schedule C of the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment document (October 2000, as amended in July 2011). The Class EA study identifies and evaluates feasible servicing alternatives for the West Vaughan service area (see map below), including a sewage servicing plan. A Notice of Study Commencement was published in March 2011, and two Public Consultation Centres (PCC) were held on April 27, 2011 and June 20, 2012. The construction of a new Regional sewer and expansion of the existing Humber Pumping Station have been selected as components of the preferred servicing solution. The preferred sewer route is shown on the map below.

>>>from page 1 motivation has been affected drastically. My emotions have been played with. My memory is a big thing – there are a lot of times when I do forget things that I’ve said or done, and my kids, they can shrug it off...but it’s been hard on them,” he said of daughters Madeline and Julia, now both in their 20s, in the 2007 video. “They both understand that someday I may not be around – that this may be cutting my life shorter. But I’d like to be around for their weddings, at least. And as far as I know, I will be.” Unfortunately, Burch didn’t live long enough to see that wish through. He passed away on Nov. 12 at age 54 after a brave, 10-year battle with brain cancer. He is survived by his daughters and his wife of 29 years, Edith. At his full-honours funeral in Newmarket last Friday, close to 250 firefighters and 200 family and friends came out to honour Burch’s ultimate sacrifice, said longtime colleague, friend, and eulogizer Steve Yurkiw. A rookie at the time, Yurkiw first met Burch at what was then Etobicoke Fire Station #7 on Martin Grove Road back in April 1989. “Randy was the rookie at the time, so when I came in as the new rookie...he was glad to see me come, because it meant he was no longer the one taking the brunt of everything,” Yurkiw said with a laugh. “When I first came into the hall, the captain turned to me and said ‘Stevie, you stick with Randy and he’ll teach

you what you’re doing.’ In my first three or four days, I said ‘holy cow! This guy looks way too young to know so much.’ But that was just Randy. He took everything to the top.” Described by Yurkiw as a perfectionist, Burch’s high standards extended beyond the fire hall and into his personal life as well – be that reflected in his muchadmired family life with the wife and two daughters who meant “everything” to him, in his successful Duke’s Decks side venture as a contractor, or in his hunting and fishing pursuits. “It was a real pleasure to know him,” Yurkiw said. “We definitely lost a good one.” Burch was recognized by the Toronto Professional Fire Fighters Association (TPFFA) for being one in a long line of firefighters whose occupational cancer deaths may not have occurred suddenly or in dramatic fashion, but

were nonetheless lauded as sacrifices made on behalf of the public. He was awarded with the Martin E. Pierce Commemorative Line-ofDuty Death Medal at his funeral. Paul Atkinson, a WSIB representative for the TPFFA, said Burch’s death was one of the five to seven work-related cancer deaths amongst Ontario firefighters the province suffers each year. Still, Burch was always known as being one of the more safety conscious firefighters amongst his colleagues – and as evidenced by his work with the Mask Up video, was keen to spread the safety message to his fire hall brothers and sisters, even while battling the fight of his life. “For those rookies that are out there...you do (need to wear your mask) even when the fire is out, because that’s the worst time, when all the carcinogens are in the air,” Burch cautioned his fellow firefighters at the end of Mask Up. “You may not be able to see it, but they’re still there and you’re breathing it in if you take your mask off. Keep wearing it...and you’ll be a safer person for it. And you may last a few years later on the job.” That’s a message Yurkiw hopes his fellow firefighters will take to heart in memory of his fallen friend. “I said (in my eulogy), I want you to keep Duke in your memory. Every time you get to that fire call and you don’t have your mask on, think of Duke,” he said. “I, for one, don’t want to be gone at 54 – and that’s what Randy was, 54.”

The truth about idling in cold weather Idling in the cold months to warm up the car not only affects the environment, it affects your wallet too. Here are a few facts you should know before turning the key.

COLD STARTS VS. IDLING You may believe that you’re doing the best for your vehicle by allowing it to ‘warm up’ in the cold weather with a few minutes of idling. In fact, more than just the engine needs to be warmed up and this can only happen if the vehicle is moving. For an average vehicle, it takes about five kilometers of driving to warm up the engine as well as the wheel bearings,

steering, suspension, transmission and tires.

SHUTTING THE ENGINE DOWN One of the false arguments made to justify idling is that it costs money to shut the engine down. That is a complete misnomer. Ten seconds of idling consumes the same amount of fuel as starting the engine after shutting it down. As for the wear and tear factor on the battery and starter, it adds up to about 10 dollars per year, compared to saving an average of 66-litres of gasoline a year by simply reducing idle time from five minutes to 30 seconds.

KEEPING THE TANK TOPPED-UP The practice of idling with a low fuel level not only stirs up any dirt in the tank, but it also promotes the build-up of condensation in the tank, especially in colder temperatures. Keeping the tank topped up minimizes both risks.

Prolonged idling is also one of the worst things the owner can do to an engine. Aside from being a complete waste of fuel, excessive idling can contaminate the engine oil, which will lead to premature, and very costly, engine wear down the road.

â– AT A GLANCE: BODY STYLE: compact roadster DRIVE METHOD: front-engine, rearwheel-drive ENGINE: 2.0-litre, 16-valve, DOHC four-cylinder (167 hp and 140 lb/ft of torque) FUEL ECONOMY: (Premium recommended) 7.1/9.2L/100 km CARGO: 150 litres TOW RATING: Not recommended PRICE: $29,145, as tested, $30,400 including optional ($1,195) air conditioning WEBSITE: www.mazda.ca

Which brings me to another thing that surprisingly has not changed over the years and that’s the price. Tested here is a box-stock base GX model with five-speed manual transmission priced at $29,145. I tested the same car in the year 2000 with the five-speed and it was priced at $27,145. And when you consider the 2013 MX-5 comes standard with expensive items such as traction control, stability control plus front and side airbags, the price comes out just about even. Now you can add a lot. The GX is the only model with the five-speed manual. The GS and GT have a six-speed manual or an optional six-speed automatic with paddle shifters but that, in my opinion, defeats the purpose. If you go higher up the Miata feeding chain, there is an optional metal folding top. But the cloth top of the current car has evolved. Now it has glass rear window, not vinyl. The glass rear window has an electric defogger which is far better than the plastic one that would go opaque and tear over time. There is a trunk with 150 litres of cargo volume. You could shoehorn two golf bags if you took the clubs out first, but two-three overnight bags is more like it. On most of the highways I travelled, the speed limit was 80 km/h so passing is just a snick down into fourth and you’re by. The overriding sensation of the 2012 MX-5 is its lightness – not just on the controls but the whole car. Part of this is due to the engine being as far back

as the engineers could place it. Couple that to the drive being just behind your behind, the mass is well in the centre of the four wheels. This translates to the nexus of the mass being just about between the seats, letting the driver get maximum directional stability by feeling he/she is at the fulcrum of any turn. Not only does this make you feel in full control but, with the top down eliminating any blind spots, the little MX-5 just screams “let’s enjoy ourselves. Which is exactly what I did. Mindful that it was a perfect fall day and the provincial police were out in force, just rolling along taking in the sights, colours and sounds of that surprisingly quiet 2.0-litre engine made for a memorable day. I have to confess I love walking up to the MX-5 with the top down and just plunking myself down fighter pilot style. The steering wheel was and remains perfectly placed with all the information you need contained in the tight instrument package directly in the line of sight. It is the kind of car you feel a connection with – something impossible with a CUV or hybrid. As this is being written, Mazda is working in concert with AlfaRomeo on a new small sportscar probably to replace the MX-5. Will it be better? In terms of the latest technology and engineering, undoubtedly. – Jim Robinson Metroland Media

Mazda got it right more than two decades ago with the MX-5 (nee Miata) and it still is one of the greatest fun vehicles for the buck you can buy.

I have driven a MX-5 every year since the first one bowed in 1989 and it still provides tons of driving enjoyment, as it did the very first time I got behind the wheel. The Mazda got it right the first time. In fact, besides dropping the name Miata in favour of MX-5, little has changed over the past 23 years. There is still a smalldisplacement inline four-cylinder engine mounted longitudinally with rear-drive. When it debuted, the engine was a 116 hp, 1.6-litre. Then it was bumped up to 1.8-litres in 2000 with 140 hp. Today it is 2.0-litres and 167 hp. Imagine, just 400cc in more than two decades and this, coupled with the low weight, still gives the MX-5 enough power to have fun but not enough to get yourself in trouble. And that’s the beauty of it. You can toss it around, enjoy the proverbial wind in your hair all for under 30 grand.

KUDOS: Humberview Huskies 2001 Minor Peewee AA, part of the Greater Toronto Hockey League, came back from the Pittsburgh Veterans Cup Tournament recently as the tourney champs. In what felt like a Canada versus United States rivalry game, the Huskies played the American Lakeland Hawks in the finals. Humberview lost to the Hawks in round-robin play, but took the championship game 3-2, with the team members singing ‘O Canada’ as they skated around the ice with the championship plaque.
