A Hop and a Skip

Shop

Laura Cummins Brisbane, Australia Laura started her Etsy shop to connect with like minded people and to share her creativity. The majority of production, including design, pattern making, cutting and sewing, is done by Laura, in her home studio in Brisbane. Minimising the travel a garment has to make in its production life-cycle minimises its carbon footprint. The name for her brand comes from a photo of Laura at a festival she attended in country Tasmania many moons ago. The photos capture a young woman who is prancing through a field, mostly it captures a feeling of Cotton t-shirt in bold red and white stripes

being free and inspired to create something beautiful. Laura hopes that everyone who wears one of her pieces can feel a hop and a skip in their step and the freedom and inspiration to make something beautiful of their own lives.

Auburn Designs Shop

Kathryn & Lauren Sunshine Coast, Australia Kathryn & Lauren fell in love with the personal element of jewellery and the endless creative possibilities, and four years ago the concept for Auburn Designs began. Auburn Designs has a reputation for overwhelming choice, on trend colour palettes, and sparkles that vie with quirky and unique prints. Kathryn & Lauren are not limited by fashion trends, the simple everyday style of their studs allows them to push their designs in any direction, and the Australian market has loved this!

Green Aesthetic

Vintage Vibes

Kathryn & Lauren love the romance of their resin and wooden pieces and hand paint every pair. By experimenting with different craft mediums they're able to constantly refresh their resin pieces. As they've grown they've taken their art from the traditional paintbox and into digital media which lets them explore the overwhelming options of digital edits. Hours go into mixing designs, working with artists, and crafting tiny digital circles from once huge pieces of art to print and develop into their glass range. Kathryn & Lauren's wooden designs start with a basic disc, they hand paint art on the disc, then pour resin to seal the art and create a glossy finish. Their glass accessories start at the computer, they create digital edits to fit their accessory sizes, print the images, then set glass to finish them with a magnified view of the print. When it came to naming the business they wrote long lists of beautiful words but ultimately the name came down to something Kathryn & Lauren share - auburn - their hair colour.

Beginning with V Shop

Sharon O’Leary Brisbane, Australia Sharon started her Etsy store because she wanted to be part of a wider creative community after hearing about the benefits of Etsy at a BrisStyle seminar. Beginning with V came into fruition after her first child was born. Sharon wanted to create a bright and imaginative environment in her daughter's bedroom and struggled to find just what she wanted at regular stores. Sharon started making small watercolours and then a colourful garland, and it took off from there. Now with three children, they each have creations in their rooms that have inspired the products Sharon now sells. "I believe these works encourage children to create

their own stories and bring smiles to their faces." Beginning with V is named after Sharon's first child, Violet.

Belly Fire Pottery Shop

Kathleen Valks City, Australia Kathleen started her Etsy store because, well she loves sales! Kathleen calls herself a clay maker, she has been a potter for 47 years. She takes her inspiration from the forms and textures of natural found objects, then sets out to find ways to express these qualities in her clay creations. The resulting clay pieces are sinuous, organic-looking, tactile, and sometimes whimsical. Kathleen is extremely influenced by the light and shadows that stream into her studio – they add to her creative inspiration. Kathleen often reflects on past forms and returns again and again to interpret them through her work. Kathleen prides herself on producing work that is quality, practical and usable, for your home, garden, as a gift or just because she can!

Emily Joyce Designs Shop

Emily Miles Brisbane, Australia Emily knew Etsy would help connect her with people who are looking for quality, handmade, one-of-a-kind jewellery. She loves the freedom Etsy provides to create jewellery she loves. Emily Joyce Designs is a one woman show, which means that Emily is the artist and business manager. She uses polymer clay to create all of her pieces of jewellery because it gives her a lot of creative freedom and is a surprisingly durable material. Emily's artistic process starts with custom mixing most of the colours that she uses, kind of like mixing paints. She then creates a clay slab, like a painters canvas These earrings are an artistic impression of the native wattle flower on a partially translucent base to allow them to catch the light.

which she cuts into the earrings components. To get a good finish and feel to the jewellery Emily sands all the components before assembling. Emily has also chosen to bake the stud posts into all of her earrings because she wants them to be long lasting. Emily's business name is her own name, which for her has sentimental value as she was named after her grandmother.

The stand out shape of these adds a creative edge to the classic pink and blue colour pairing.

Enfocar Photography Shop

Kellie Parry Landsborough, Australia Kellie opened up her Etsy store way back when Etsy was a fairly new platform after a recommendation from a friend. "My business wouldn't be where it is today without Etsy!" Kellie is an award winning travel photographer, currently based in Queensland, Australia. Her passion for photography started on one of Kellie's many trips around the globe. Kellie has always liked to travel to the more unusual places and capture the essence and vibrance of each of these places to bring them to those who may never get to see them. With a passport that shows trips to Tibet, Nicaragua, Guatemala, El Salvador, Iceland, Greenland, Bangladesh and the Middle East just to name a few. Currently, Kellie has been to 43 countries! Her travel photography is a vast range of landscapes, cityscapes, street photography, nature and still life. Not sticking to one particular genre of travel photography, Kellie shoots whatever captures her interest. Kellie is a self-taught photographer and it has taken years of practice and commitment to get to where she is today. Whilst in Mexico as part of an 8 month backpacking trip Kellie was inspired to take her photography from a hobby to a business. "Etsy is the perfect handmade community to do this as Etsy sellers sell the sorts of products I would buy for myself and gifts" Said Esther on why she opened her store. Esther has always dabbled in something creative and fell in love with beads many years ago. Esther used to make wedding jewellery before she moved overseas. Once she moved back Esther had her 3 boys, and when she finally made time to create, she enjoyed the feeling of achieving something! So Esther started selling at markets and started an Etsy store and has never looked back! Esther loves combining mixed materials to create different designs. Researching and testing products is the most difficult part of the entire making process, although even after almost 2 years Eric still finds it fun. After he has perfected a product, Eric makes and prints his own labels, finds suitable recyclable or compostable packaging, and gets to making. Fringe & Bow Shop

Katelyn Hankinson Brisbane, Australia Fringe & Bow specialises in designing and making contemporary handmade knits for you and your space. Katelyn developed the brand to create an avenue for her love of knitwear and her passion for design to merge. Fringe & Bow’s goal is to combine traditional crafts, with a modern edge and cuddly yarn, to create uniquely stylish pieces — fondly known as little handmade hugs. When Katelyn was roughly 8 years old her grandmother, Jeanie, taught her to knit, and before long she was teaching Katelyn to crochet. Katelyn spent many happy hours watching her grandmother perfect these skills, her passion and dedication to her craft spurred Katelyn on to make things for herself. From there, a lifelong addiction was born. Katelyn's Etsy store has now been open for almost 4 years and she is a keen advocate for the use of handmade, analogue techniques in the digital age. The Fringe & Bow brand allows Katelyn to experiment with her design style, whilst creating handmade knitwear dedicated to the makers who taught her.

Each piece is lovingly handmade by Katelyn in Brisbane QLD, using crochet or knit-based techniques and are consciously designed to minimise material wastage, without sacrificing aesthetics. The Fringe & Bow brand name was inspired by Katelyn's time in university, where her immaculate fringe and hair bow became a part of her signature style. These soon became her 'descriptors' whenever someone tried to point her out in a crowd and as they say, the rest is history.

Krystal’s Creations Shop

Krystal Mather Mount Gravatt, Australia Krystal loved the process of creating resin pieces and the peacefulness she felt while creating them, so she started her Etsy store in the hope that other people would be able to feel the same calming feeling when looking at her artwork. Krystal is a beach lover and finds that creating beach pieces using resin gives her the same calming feeling as listening to waves crashing. Letting the pieces flow and form themselves is always a satisfying process. Krystal creates each piece in her studio at home over Round Beach Cheese Boards

many days, building up layers in the pieces, giving them texture and depth. They then get sanded and painted as necessary to give them a complete and shiny finish. When coming up with the name for her shop Krystal didn't want to limit the items she created to resin, so 'creations' fits well to allow her to explore various creative avenues and it also went well with her name.

Brittany Dever Brisbane, Australia Brittany has always been creative and crafty. Once she discovered embroidery and other handicrafts, starting up an Etsy store was a natural progression so she could share this creative outlet with those around her. Brittany creates all her products from her home studio here in Brisbane. The design process involves sketching out an idea then cutting it out of felt, and sewing it together. It includes a lot of experimentation but if Brittany absolutely loves the finished product then she knows she is doing it right. Brittany chose 'Lazy Bones' simply because she liked the sound of it and as she says "it's turned out to be quite ironic considering the amount of work that goes Punchy Pears - Embroidered Felt Earrings

Musk & Mallow Shop

Xana Denruyter Mount Nebo, Australia Xana always loved crafting and creating new things, but always saw this more as a hobby. When she started being creative and fully developing this as her career, Xana wanted to take this opportunity to turn her hobby into her job and it worked. Xana made a website, started an Instagram page and started creating. That first sale was a boost of confidence and now Xana proudly owns Musk and Mallow, a store that is mainly focused on entomology design, home decor and art. Xana sources the most ethical and sustainable products for her shop and tries to buy from local sellers. This has been going great and she has had the chance to meet many new beautiful people and businesses. Xana says she spends about 4 hours a day researching and ordering for her next new project. Once every single bit of material has arrived, Xana jumps into her home studio and starts making! Xana recently changed her business name to Musk and Mallow. The Musk-Mallow is a wildflower that is very well known to attract butterflies and so Xana thought that was very appropriate since she is extremely into the art of entomology. Xana played around with the words and voila, Musk and Mallow.

Nicola Holland Brisbane, Australia Nicola opened her Etsy store after people kept asking her where they could buy the earrings she was wearing, so she thought "I better set up somewhere so they could!" Nicola's earrings are inspired by pop culture and pop art. She creates a design and works with a local laser cutting business to make them come to life. As for the manufacturing of each piece, everything is assembled in her home studio, usually at midnight when everyone else is asleep. When Nicola was younger she tried to imagine what her superhero name would be, and Neon Nikki is what she came up with and as her superpowers still haven't kicked in, it seemed like the perfect name for her business.

Patricia Gimeno Shop

Patricia Gimeno Brisbane, Australia When Patricia started looking for a platform to sell her artwork she had a previous experience with Etsy and it seemed the right place to find new homes for her art. "Etsy has a great community of sellers and customers", says Patricia. With a background in architecture and design, Patricia uses composition and colour to structure her images. She always has a sketchbook with her and most of her work starts with a drawing. Observing the world around her and making visual notes about it is the first step, from there it can evolve to new sketches for a painting or an idea for a new design – “I am always inspired by my surroundings, mainly nature in all its splendour and details.” Patricia’s works use different mediums, from drawing to

Peco Craft Shop

Miku Shingles Brisbane, Australia Miku started her Esty shop after wanting to turn her passion into a business. She started to make earrings as a hobby after she became a mum. Occasionally Miku was selling them at the markets, one day, one of the stallholders recommended Etsy to Miku and she has never looked back! Miku paints on paper and coats each piece with resin. Her designs are abstract art and collage art and each pair is a one of a kind item. Miku stocks many different pieces for pierced or non-pierced ears, and the perfect design for everyone’s individual style!

Reversible Long Hook Earrings

As for the name, “Peco” is an onomatopoeia of Japanese. “Peco” is the sound of bowing. Also, “Peco-Peco” means “I’m hungry”. Really Miku just liked the sound of “Peco”.

Planet Pickle Shop

Kahni Burrows Brisbane, Australia Kahni opened her Etsy store because she was sick and tired of seeing nothing but poor quality mass-produced garbage being sold at her favourite SciFi, fantasy gaming stores and conventions. Kahni saw that there were so many nerdy people like her out there who wanted high quality handmade jewellery that could be worn with a corporate suit to work at the office as easily as with a pair of jeans to Comic-Con. Etsy was the obvious platform by which Kahni could reach her demographic.

Tiny dragon stud earrings

All of the jewellery made at Planet Pickle is the result of either direct fabrication (involving sawing, forming and soldering of precious metal sheet and wire) or by lost wax casting, where original pieces carved from wax or wax casts made from moulds of Kahni's original sculpts are used to produce precious metal casts. Lately, Kahni has also started to sculpt using 3D design software, printing the sculptures out in wax on a 3D printer and then casting those. The pieces may then be embellished further by the addition of kiln enamelling, epoxy resin, precious stones or beadwork. Kahni does a fair bit of commission work creating bespoke designs for people all over the world. Kahni named her business for Pickle, the only dog to survive the Russian space program and the term "pickle" is also used to refer to the acid that metalsmiths use to remove oxidation from silver and gold after they have been soldered.

Sol Threads Shop

Imogen White Brisbane, Australia Imogen started her Etsy store to share her love of embroidery with others in a fun and easy way. All her patterns start from basic pencil and paper sketches, then the real magic happens with a needle and thread!

Flying High Embroidery Kit

After trying every craft under the sun as a child, Imogen started embroidery after an embroidered cushion at her Great Aunt’s house sparked her interest. Her Grandma Margaret and her Great Aunty Norma taught her the basics and she’s never stopped since! 10 years later, embroidery continues to be a great stress reliever and has kept her going through work and study, and she’s thrilled to pass on this old craft in a new way through her embroidery kits. Since it’s pretty tough to learn from a printed picture, all kits come with video stitch tutorials so you can learn at your own pace! Sol Threads aims to bring a bit more sunshine into everyone’s lives with embroidery. When it comes to her business name Imogen has been lucky enough to spend quite a bit of time in Denmark and Spain, and surprisingly enough they have one word in common: Sol, which means sun!

Strange Magic Shop Shop

Adele Pentland Winton, Australia Adele has loved making jewellery ever since she was little! As she's gotten older and studied science and become a palaeontologist, she has been looking for an outlet to experiment and play with colours and design, rather than fossils. Strange Magic Shop has allowed Adele to share her love of dinosaurs, pop culture and other nerdy things by creating pieces of jewellery that allow women to connect with other like-minded folks, and the important people in their life. Designed and made in her studio in outback Queensland, each design starts life as a sketch in her notebook. They’re then digitally drawn over a couple of hours before it is laser cut from acrylic. After that, Adele carefully paints and assemble each piece by hand.

Show off your love for dinosaurs!

Almost everything that goes into making these accessories, including the acrylic and hypoallergenic stainless steel studs, are sourced from other Australian companies. Where possible, these companies are based right here in Queensland. Strange Magic was inspired by a song lyric, but since starting up again in 2017 the brand has shifted and grown whilst maintaining that fun, playful energy Adele brings to all her designs. $10 daisy studs available in other colours

Swapnil Nevgi Fine Art Shop

Swapnil Nevgi Brisbane, Australia For Swapnill Etsy is a great community of buyers and sellers who are passionate about everything handmade. It came across as a great opportunity for him to show and sell his handmade work to a wider community that shares a similar passion, so he finally opened an Etsy shop this year. Swapnill's art is inspired by nature and wildlife. He spends a lot of time in local reserves & national parks collecting photographic references to meet his composition requirements. Once he has created a rough composite of photographic references, Swapnill starts working on his painting. Blank Greeting card - Designed from "Two Souls" original oil painting

Swapnill's paintings are generally large and getting the details correct takes him anywhere between 100 - 200 hours depending on the painting size. Once the painting is ready, he photographs it and processes it in colour matching software on his colour accurate monitor, which helps him reproduce prints that are precise reproductions of the original art. Swapnill prints up to A2 sized prints himself in his studio on his giclée printer. His larger sized fine art prints are printed by local printers specialising in Fine art printing.

Tamara Shaw Brisbane, Australia Tamara joined Etsy so she could sell her artwork on a platform designed for handmade and unique pieces. Tamara's business is creating artwork, printmaking is her niche. She rolls ink onto a linocut/rubber block and uses her hands (not a press machine) to add pressure, transferring the ink onto paper or material to create art. Tamara loves exploring and developing her prints by combining different mediums to create unique images. She incorporates symbols, meaning, colour and motivational messages in her work to help people find peace, positivity, happiness and fun in their life. The name for her store comes from the first three letters of her first and last name to make Tamsha (Tamara Shaw) and it is all to do with creating art.

Tegan Bain Art Shop

Tegan Bain Brisbane, Australia Tegan started her shop as she feels Etsy promotes art and handmade products in a way that aligns with what she does. "It's a vehicle for sharing my tangible artwork with people". Tegan's art practice centres around the environment, both natural and architectural, and our relationship with it. She is inspired by native Australian plants in her garden, and by her surroundings in everyday life, or when travelling. Tegan is multidisciplinary, mainly working with gouache, watercolour, drawing and lino printing. Though she occasionally dips into other mediums like paper making, ceramics and commissioned gouache paintings.

Brisbane Arcade A5 Art Print

All of Tegan's products are handmade by herself in her Brisbane studio, or in the case of her art prints, are reproduced in a small run by a local art print shop from her original gouache paintings. Tegan makes all of her original paintings, lino prints, cards, and handmade paper tags herself in her home studio. Tegan often starts her process with something she already has in mind from seeing something out and about, or by simply walking around the garden. She will then go back to her studio and work out in her sketchbook the dimensions and medium she'll work in. Then Tegan gets working on it over the coming days or even weeks. All Tegan's products and artwork come from her artistic practice, so it seemed appropriate to share her work under her own name.

Where possible David will buy ethically sourced Australian timbers in rough sawn form, dress and mould by hand and machine and put together a piece

The Creative Boutique Shop

Katie Parrish Brisbane, Australia Katie started resin as a hobby last year and was creating gifts and homewares for friends and family. She received so many compliments and encouragement to sell her products online! Katie chose Etsy due to the ease of setting up a store and the accessibility for people to browse her products. Katie's business focuses on creating unique and functional artwork perfect for gifts and styling your home. Katie's design process focuses on taking inspiration from Australian landscapes while taking into account on-trend home decor colours and patterns. She grew up in North Queensland, so loves to focus on the ocean (blues and waves) and rainforest (greens and golds).

Blue and copper resin serving tray set

Katie's products are all made at home. She uses a mixture of pre-purchased boards (always Australian timber) and boards made themselves using local timber. For jewellery, She uses silicone moulds with a combination of resin, alcohol ink and gold leaf to create unique designs. Katie wanted a shop name that didn't trap her into a specific medium (e.g. resin), this flexibility has enabled an exploration and expansion to alcohol ink designs and woodworking, and who knows what next?!
