EVERGREEN'S
annual Patient Experience Week (PXW) is an opportunity to focus on patient satisfaction. Last month we examined health equity, one of the five main pillars of patient experience. This month we look at another of the pillars: engagement and support. Collin Ranney, Evergreen's patient experience manager, says that engagement and support aims to increase the volume of returning patients and linkage to other wraparound services provided throughout the organization.
Positive Staff Engagement: Positive staff engagement is more likely to lead to quality care for patients. When staff goes the extra mile, showing empathy and dedication to improving outcomes, the overall patient experience is enhanced, as are satisfaction levels. It's crucial that patients feel respected, welcomed, and listened to, as these things have a direct impact on the quality of care we provide as well as patient well-being. Respect and communication enhance the trust essential for effective collaboration between patients and providers.
Patient Support: Patient support empowers individuals to actively participate in their own care. Patients who feel supported, informed, and involved are more likely to make informed decisions about their health. This is the backbone of patient-centered care. Addressing the holistic needs of individuals is the human touch that transforms healthcare from a service to a compassionate partnership.

Connections is the official monthly newsletter for employees and board members of Evergreen Health and its affilliates, the Pride Center of Western New York and Community Access Services. You can submit photos, comments or a "hello" via Outlook at Evergreen Connections.
The Buffalo Bisons once again hosted Pride Night at the ballpark.
The Pride flag was raised - to cheers and applause - in Niagara Square to mark Pride Month in Buffalo. After the ceremony a reception was held in the lobby of City Hall where photographs from Buffalo's first Pride March in 1994 were displayed. Evergreen - then known as AIDS Community Services - was well represented.
What do nine Michaels, seven Kimberlys, eight James/Jamies and six Melissas all have in common? They're all current employees of Evergreen who share the same first name… just to name a few! Evergreen Health, Community Access Services, and the Pride Center currently employ approximately 500 individuals, many of whom share the same or similar first names. Letting your patients/callers know what department or position you're in can really help improve efficiency and reduce endless or incorrect transfers when they're trying to reach you by telephone.
If you need a patient to call you back or if they want to speak with you by phone for another reason, providing a bit more information can go a long way. Imagine a caller reaching an operator stating, “I would like to speak to my worker Liz”. Several operator questions later and looking through directories, Jabber and other resources to find the correct Liz, Elizabeth, Liza or Lisa extends the length of the transfer and could potentially irritate or frustrate the caller. For example, if the caller knew to ask for “Liz in Housing” the operator could verify the information and transfer immediately to the appropriate Housing hunt group.
As we continue to grow and add employees, the best practice is to educate your patient or callers to utilize your name and department and/or position to increase telephone efficiency and provide a more positive patient experience. Reminder: it's never a good idea or practice to provide your direct extension to patients!

Buffalo didn't let a bit of rain spoil a great Pride Parade and Festival. A big THANK YOU to everyone who worked, participated or volunteered at the Pride Parade and Festival. We couldn't put on such an amazing celebration without your help!
If there's an outreach or training opportunity, it's a safe bet that Evergreen will be there. Here are some photos of Team Evergreen in action. Thank you Tiffany Valentin, manager of diversity & belonging, for sharing your photos!
Evergreen was once again the presenting sponsor for the Jamestown Pride celebration. Sunshine, blue skies and smiles all around!
