The Book

Written by Melanie Martin and Leah O'Shaughnessy, Are We Human? is a compelling collection of twenty-nine stories on the experiences of individuals who have sought refuge in Ireland and the compassion of Irish strangers who selflessly help those in need.

The book aims to foster empathy, understanding, and social justice through the powerful narratives of resilience, hope, and human rights.

The Authors

MELANIE MARTIN

Melanie Martin, originally from Tallaght, has worked in the education sector for 13 years. Her commitment to helping others encourages her to strive to promote equality and understanding in a more inclusive society.

LEAH O'SHAUGHNESSY

Leah O' Shaughnessy is originally from Dolphin's Barn and has worked in the education sector for 9 years. Her core values are reflected in her drive for social justice, inclusion and helping others through education, activism, and advocacy.

Are We Human?: Conversations on Humanity and Belonging

Join Are We Human? authors Melanie Martin and Leah O’Shaughnessy for an engaging 60-90 minute discussion tailored for your team. Drawing from their experiences meeting asylum seekers, refugees and migrants, they’ll share powerful stories that inspire empathy and human connection.

As an added option, you can invite some of those who shared their stories to participate in the conversation, enriching the dialogue with their first-hand perspectives.

• Cost: Suggested contribution from €150 per contributor (authors do not charge a fee)

• Give the book to your staff: €14 per book on orders over 20 books (€2 from each book goes to our charity partner, Sanctuary Runners)
