RCMP news: Robbery in Castlegar On Wednesday, November 13 at approximately 11:10 a.m., a male entered the Shopper’s Simply Pharmacy Castlegar, formerly Paragon Pharmacy, brandishing a shotgun and proceeded to rob the pharmacy making off with a large amount of Prescription medication and Canadian currency. The male, described as early 20’s, approximately 5’8”, slim build wearing a dark blue/ grey jacket, fled on foot out the back door of the pharmacy. A male was seen running from the area of the robbery
shortly thereafter. A composite sketch of the male the male running away from the scene was obtained (photo on the right). Castlegar RCMP are requesting the assistance of the public in identifying the male depicted in the sketch. Vermiculite is a type of loose fill insulation that was sold from the 1920’s until 1984 throughout North America. Vermiculite has an accordion like appearance, with a colour ranging from a silvery gold translucent that may darken to a black or grey with age. The health issue with vermiculite insulation is that it may contain naturally occurring asbestos fibres. Asbestos is the name given to a number of naturally occur-
ring, fibrous silicate minerals that were commonly used as an acoustic insulator, thermal insulation, fire proofing and other building materials even drywall products and roofing shingles have used asbestos. Many products in use today contain asbestos. Asbestos is made up of microscopic bundles of fibres that may become airborne when asbestos-containing materials are damaged or disturbed. When these fibres get into the air or are friable they may be inhaled into the lungs, where they can cause
significant health problems such as lung diseases including: asbestosis, lung cancer, or mesothelioma. Smoking increases the risk of developing illness from asbestos exposure. With that being said, generally the home environment will be fairly safe for the occupants unless these products are disturbed such as frequent attic activities or renovations. The only way to know for sure if the insulation may contain asbestos is to have it tested. If you plan on renovating your home in such a way
that the insulation would be disturbed or attic activities are required you should take the proper precautions and have it tested and removed if necessary prior to your renovation. New Cranbrook to Kelowna direct flight Pacific Coastal Airlines has launched a direct Cranbrook to Kelowna service starting Monday, November 18. The service will operate Sunday to Friday. It will depart Cranbrook at 3:10 p.m. Mountain Time and arrive in Kelowna at 3:25 p.m. Pacific Time. For the reverse trip, the aircraft
leaves Kelowna at 3:25 p.m. Pacific Time, arriving in Cranbrook at 5:15 p.m. Mountain Time. Before this route was announced, air travellers needed to fly from Cranbrook to Vancouver and then transfer to a flight to Kelowna, making for a longer trip. The new route came

Civic Engagement The Civic Theatre is experimenting with getting more recent films at an earlier time and we, as a community need to make it a success. We need to attend these early showings to show that the Civic is ready to compete with other theatres. The Civic has been in and out of our lives for as long as I can remember and with these midnight screenings, the Civic is aiming to emulate a larger theater and saving us the trouble of having to head out to Castlegar
to see the latest movie. People such as myself who don’t own personal transportation can struggle to get to Castlegar at times so opportunities such as these can elevate some of the stress in trying to get out of town for a short time. Catching Fire is having its first showing on Friday, November 22, at 7 p.m.. It’s understandable if you can’t make it but if you have the time and the money please come support our local theatre and make a memory worth having. Come support our local theatre.

There is an attitude problem here that has become quite large. Please get help, take a leave of absence and reassess your public life.
