Meadow Creek Spawning Channel Open House Saturday, Sept 13, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Salmon congregating below the lower fence at the Meadow Creek Spawning Channel

If you really want to see ‘redd’ then Meadow Creek Spawning Channel Open House is the place to be. The Open House is a free, family event that provides a great opportunity to talk to FLNRO biologists and field technicians, and view the fish at (or near) the peak of their run. Additional displays or information at the event will

be provided by Bear Smart, and about the Nutrient Restoration Program in Kootenay Lake. The 3.3 km looping spawning channel was the largest of its kind in the world when it was built in 1967 with BC Hydro funds, compensating for upstream spawning habitat lost due to the construction of Duncan Dam.

In addition to the Open House, Meadow Creek Spawning Channel is open to the public every day between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. for the duration of the spawning season that typically runs into late September or early October. submitted by the Fish and Wildlife Compensation Program

Body found, unconfirmed as man missing from Kokanee Park campground On Thursday Sept. 11 at approximately 8:15 a.m. the Nelson RCMP received a call from a woman who felt she saw a body floating in Kootenay Lake near Crescent Beach. The Nelson RCMP with the assistance of Nelson Search and Rescue attended the scene where they recovered the body of a male. The RCMP cannot confirm at this time that it is the body of Paul Tayes who was reported missing on September 4th from Kokanee Creek Provincial Campground. The BC Coroners Service will be taking conduct of the investigation into the events surrounding and cause of the male’s death. The family of Mr. Tayes has been notified of the recovery of the

body and are awaiting a positive identification to be made. The Nelson RCMP has been seeking the public’s assistance in locating 56 year old, Surrey resident, Paul Tayes. Mr. Tayes arrived at the Kokanee Provincial Campground Tuesday, Sept. 2nd, around 8:30 pm. He paid for one nights accommodation after having travelled from Cranbrook. On Thursday Sept 4th, park staff noticed his vehicle and trailer were still in the same location, however, he could not be located. Enquiries reveal he planned on camping for one evening at this location then travelling to Summitt Lake. Anyone with information is asked to contact the RCMP. submitted by Nelson RCMP

Opinion&Editorial My Opinion

by Spencer Pollard

The Word on Let’s Plays

What is a “Let’s Play”? A Let’s Play is essentially a gameplay of a video game done by a commentator who comments on a myriad of subjects generally pertaining to the game play shown. My question is what’s the value in it? You can buy the game yourself, so how is it entertaining? Well, for starters, the personalities playing the game can be very entertaining to listen to and watch. Also, for those of less financially fortunate, a Let’s Play can be a method to enjoy the

game without having to shell out for it. It can also be used as a tool to weigh opinions if you are unsure of a potential future purchase. Personally, I don’t often enjoy Let’s Plays that much, as I prefer the hands on experience of actually playing them. However, I do see the value of them as a tool for others to experience games who either can’t afford them or simply aren’t very skilled at them. It’s a new way of sharing our experiences with others and it’s proven popular enough to stay with us for some time to come.
