Hedwig and the Angry Inch February 12-14, 19-21 and 26-28 at 7:30 p.m. at Shambhala Hall Heartbreaking and wickedly funny, Hedwig and the Angry Inch is a musical comedy that tells the story of a fictional rock ‘n’ roll band, fronted by Hedwig, an “internationally ignored song stylist” from East Berlin who has survived a botched sex change operation. Brilliantly innovative and raucously entertaining, Hedwig has inspired a generation with its story of love, acceptance, fury and freedom. Starring Nelson’s Cultural Ambassasdor, Bessie Wapp and Sydney Black and directed by Pat Henman, Hedwig and the Angry Inch may be inappropriate for children 12 and under. Tickets are $25 for adults and $20 for students (plus applicable taxes and fees) and are available at the Capitol Theatre Box office. www.capitoltheatre.bc.ca

Or contact, Mona Mattei 250.443.1899 and pass on your doctor’s name for follow up mmattei@divisionsbc.ca

Opinion&Editorial My Opinion

The Awkward Phase

Many of us had an “ Aw k w a r d ” phase, although for me that seems to be an everyday thing. Basic interactions can be a challenge and menial tasks can seem down right daunting. How do I or anyone else cope? Well for many of us, the “Awkward” phase consists of our teenage years. That time only lasts so long so you can simply choose to wait it out although with the amount of peer pressure that teenagers have to deal with it may not be the best choice. Parents are a great

resource as they have experienced many of the same feelings as you are going through and can help you through it. So what about people like me having a perpetual awkward phase? Well, some of the same advice applies, but for me it feels like a series of perpetual awkwardness with no end in site. There’s also various other methods I could look into as well such as therapy or medication but it’s honestly not that bad, just an annoyance. If any of the advice I mentioned helps you then great, let’s just hope it can help me as well.

Nelson Police: arrests for assault and thefts On Wednesday Jan. 21 at 645 a.m. a 26 year-old female attended the front counter of the Nelson Police Department and reported that she was assaulted in an apartment in the 400 block of Ward Street within the last 30 minutes. She sustained minor injuries and was treated on scene by the BC Ambulance Service. Nelson Police attended the scene and located the 45 year-old male who was arrested with assault with a weapon. He was released on a Promise to Appear and an Undertaking and is scheduled to attend Nelson Provincial Court on April 28, 2015. The investigation is ongoing and a mental health team was brought in to assess the Nelson resident after he was released. On Sunday, Jan. 18 a local Pharmacy was broken into and a quantity of narcotics was taken. Members of the Nelson Police Department have arrested the person believed respon-

sible the same day. Unfortunately, police were unable to recover the drugs - the investigation is on-going but - in the interim, the public should be aware that these drugs, administered by a person other than a qualified physician could cause serious harm or death to an individual. The 26 year-old female of no fixed address was released on a Promise to Appear and an Undertaking and is scheduled to attend Nelson Provincial Court on March 3, 2015. She is facing a charge of Break and Entering a Business. On Thursday, Jan. 15 at 3:45 p.m., 2 females entered a retail store and left without paying for a few valuable items after spending a considerable amount of time in the store. A good description of the getaway vehicle and the occupants was broadcast to all police agencies in the Kootenays. After the duo left the store, they allegedly drove to a local

grocery store and walked out without paying for a substantial amount of groceries and housewares. With the assistance of the Nelson RCMP, the Nelson Police Department arrested two females aged 36 and 53 years old with 2 counts each of theft under $5000 dollars and 2 counts each of possession of stolen property. The younger female was also arrested for an unendorsed warrant for theft under $5000 dollars and Breach of Undertaking. The 53 year-old Castlegar woman was released on a Promise to Appear and strict conditions with a scheduled Nelson Provincial Court date of April 28, 2015. A bail hearing was conducted on January 16, 2015 for the other female of no fixed address and she was remanded for Nelson Provincial Court on January 20, 2015. submitted by the Nelson City Police

On Wednesday, Jan. 21, Nanaimo RCMP contacted the Castlegar RCMP and alerted them to a 6-minute video which was posted on YouTube on January 12, 2015 entitled “How to kill your Teacher. The six-minute video shows two boys about the age of 10 or 11 years old holding toy guns and discussing how to kill a teacher. The Nanaimo RCMP had initially been contacted by a Florida radio station host who stumbled across the video and then he found more footage by the same user featuring the Nanaimo airport. Nanaimo RCMP commenced an investigation into this posted video

which revealed that the boys responsible reside in the Castlegar area. Castlegar RCMP have spoken with the two boys responsible and are currently working with them, their parents, as well as with school officials to try to understand why they would create such a video. The children indicated this was intended to be a joke. The boys have been made aware how inappropriate their behaviour and video were. School officials are currently working with the RCMP to conduct a violence-risk assessment and are determining what sort of action will be pursued from

within the school setting. Due to the age of the boys (11 and 13 years old), charges will not be pursued, however, alternative measures are being utilized to ensure this does not happen again. It is important for kids to know that when you post something like this online, it can be taken very seriously and that what you think might be a joke, can be taken differently by someone who may feel they are a target. Posting things like this can get you in serious trouble. submitted by the Castlegar RCMP
