asked me to look after getting a golf tournament going, it was an easy choice for me because Kootenay Lake Hospital Foundation was so important to her,” said Maida, whose mother Emma passed away from cancer. Foundation Chair Pat Dooley was excited that the event matched the impressive total from last year, increasing the Legacy Fund—the Foundation’s long term endowment—by $60,000 in two years. Dooley stated that the best news to come out of the event was the announcement that the tournament would continue as an annual event. The Kootenay Lake Hospital Foundation is governed by a group of dedicated volunteers whose purpose is to raise funds for the medical needs of our community hospital.

Opinion&Editorial My Opinion
by Spencer Pollard
What Defines a Work of Art as Classic?
I was going to start this article with the textbook definition of “classic”, but rather than going for that, I figured I should start it a little differently. The usage of the word ‘classic’ can pertain to a number of things, from films to works of art. But how do we know what is classic and what is trash? In regards to films, they can be regarded as classic at anytime. Movies that have been recently released can be labeled as “classics” but so can movies that have been with us for decades that may only now be get-
ting the recognition they deserve. You may dispute some of the more recent movies or works of art as classics, but sooner or later enough time will pass that they will most likely be considered classics by generations further ahead. Although a classic may be defined as something judged over a period of time of the highest quality, I believe something can also be judged to be an instant classic. The question is whether it can maintain this label over a period of time.
