I strive to reach a skill where I can telepathically play my guitar while reading through a Cosmopolitan magazine all while driving a car with my feet. Hopefully I’ll reach that in the next few years. I’ll need to get my license first (and learn to read).” Rosenberg will be followed by Expressions regular Open Mic. www.facebook.com/expressionsnelson

Survey&Editorial Visualize Utopia
Most of us acknowledge the power of positive affirmation. Usually, By Nelson Becker this applies to personal issues. “I am a good person.” “I can stop smoking cigarettes.” Positive affirmations are very powerful in that they open the door to our growth. We seem to be locked into many negative affirmations when it comes
to society, though. Science fiction stories are often about the apocalypse and a terrible future society. I try to understand why writers would choose to write about a world that scares me. I guess it’s because they want to warn me of a future that may happen if we don’t do the right thing. Major media seems to think that news is not news unless it is bad news. “If it bleeds, then it leads.” I think that this is a bad way to look at our future. As we make positive
affirmations about our personal selves, we should make positive affirmations about our community and the world that we live in. We have to visualize Utopia. That is the first step in making it happen. So I wonder what will Utopia look like in Nelson? How do you feel Nelson would look like in 20-50 years from now? Nelson and the West Kootenay is nice. What would make it truly a Utopia. What do you think?

My Opinion
by Spencer Pollard
In life often we feel the need to just “go for it”, whether it’s a job we want or the one we feel smitten with. These types of choices, however, are often illogical and are frowned upon. This is not always the case however. I’ve had my fair share of times when I’ve gone with my gut rath-
What the Heart Wants
er than what logic dictated what I should do. However when I do this, I find that it isn’t always the best choice. Emotions at times can cloud our judgment, leading to some irrational choices that can often be to our detriment. I’ve had feelings for the opposite gender and have time and time again blown it because I shared
too much and didn’t stop to think about it before diving in. Choices like these can doom us if we don’t tread lightly. When it comes to matters of a romantic nature, we need to be level headed before we proceed. With the right mix of heart and logic, perhaps your romantic conquests will heed better results.

Last Week’s Survey Question
Do you think that Nelson’s waterfront walkway could use improvement? Yes 92% No 8% What would you do to improve the whole path or just a section of it? Whole pathway improvements wider pathway with bicycle and walking lane; public art along pathway; benches; garbage cans and doggy bags; create picnic areas; Signage ironically, the only section that has been done to the standards that were initially intended, is the section in front of the Prestige. many areas are not great for those with (even minor) mobility issues - improvements in accessibility would be good Better lighting throughout shady areas, brick walkway, garbage receptables, lights, widened to include bike lane
The dog walk by the airport more garbage cans and doggy bags; there is a lot of dog poop there; swimming/ park area at the far west end & outhouse Grading and drainage. ....is a disgrace! It should be paved and have more garbage cans for the unreasonable amount of dog waste along the way, that makes its’ way directly into the lake(water quality concerns anyone?) and again, not enough benches to enjoy the area, or simply to rest, for the elderly and physically challenged, whose needs there seems to be no concern shown. pave it! Reminder signs to pick up after your dog
Prestige to the soccer fields boardwalk with tiny shops selling various locally produced goods, food and drinks repair and widen sidewalk (walking/bicycles - take out parking spots along the mall area); benches; consider improving the section along the mall parking lot....possibly a boardwalk that would widen that sec-
tion with some sitting areas and a wider walkway....along that section....the whole walkway has had a fair bit of discussion but there isn’at any action....Mayor Elliot had speakers come in to review this opportunity for Nelson... Needs to better match what is in front of the Prestige and where it connects at the soccer fields. Paved? Boardwalk? Something where a group of children can walk side by side safely. I like the boardwalk idea for this area Boardwalk would be great; need lighting; seating
Pathway around the soccer fields better snow removal in winter & better drainage in wet weather - sometimes there are large pools of water Gazebo
Section between Lakeside Park and John’s Walk didn’t realize this section existed... probably could use upgrading repair and widen if possible; add lighting Signage, grading and lighting This area is a disgrace and an insult to the public and to locals who have lost access to their waterfront dirt path between the RCMP parking lot and the train tracks could use some improving “footprints” to indicate the path goes on (in both directions)
Pathway in front of John’s Walk make it accessible to the larger community repair and widen if possible; benches and public seating areas. It’s an on leash area for dogs - would like to see more patrolling of this area to make sure the leash bylaw is being adhered to
Trees!!!!!!!!
From the end of John’s Walk to Redsands Beach make it apparent that the paths are there & encourage use landscaped wide pathway with bicycle and walking lane; public art along pathway; benches; garbage cans and doggy bags; create picnic areas. is this a joke? This is where there is no path... yet it was clearly included in the initial plan.
Other Sections ask CP Rail to allow it to continue south, crossing the tracks and ending at the old train depot
General Comments Look at the promenade in Penticton. Lovely and inviting, it is well lit with great seating. Everything ages and detiorates and needs repair/refurbishing. Its time to do Baker Street too! Unattractive, too narrow Completing its’ making would be a start. A narrow, pot holed dirt path was not what we were sold when it was introduced, but that is all that we got. What is most ridiculous are the unwelcoming signs along the section in front of houses telling people not to venture off the path in any way, as if the waterfront is off limits. The waterfront to the high watermark is public property Just because people have built docks, some with locked fences (which are actually against the law), does not make the waterfront private property. Yet the signs were posted by the City, suggesting that they condone this. As if to emphasize how unwelcome we are along the walk, there are no benches ( the mall actually removed the few that were there), and there are no garbage cans or dog poop bags along the way either!
