Penalized Storm Fall To Roosters --- The Eye ----
A lopsided penalty count and a fine Woy Woy team were ultimately all that came between Gosford and this season’s Under 10(2)s premiership; the Roosters prevailing 28-22 in a keenly fought grand final at Kanwal. The Storm began the decider brightly when Blake Hodge continued his tremendous semi final form by charging across the line to give the purple team an early 4-0 lead. Woy Woy countered swiftly however when a high tackle penalty gifted the red & whites an attacking set and the impressive Sean Bullen was able to barrel his way into the Gorokan corner. Gosford skipper, Benji Keene-O’Keefe responded in kind with his first touch of the grand final, scurrying 30 metres in a typical burst that left a host of Roosters clutching forlornly at the Bill Hicks Oval dust; a dash that helped push Gosford to a 10-6 advantage midway through the opening half. the Eye of the Storm – SEPTEMBER 2016
Possession eluded the Storm for much of the remainder of the period as the Roosters attacked our line with unfettered relish. A brilliant try saving tackle by Benji Keene-O’Keefe on Sean Bullen only managed to avert the inevitable as Woy Woy’s right winger, Connor Macey cheekily speared down the shortest of blindsides for a try in the proceeding play. Former Stormer, Bailey Chislett extended Woy Woy’s lead when he crossed on the back of three consecutive sets inside Gosford’s quarter. The clock ticked over and the team’s headed to their respective halftime huddles with the peninsula boys ahead 18-10.
the Eye of the Storm – SEPTEMBER 2016
the Eye of the Storm – SEPTEMBER 2016
Sadly, the penalties kept flowing against us throughout the second half and our opponents were able to extend their lead just after the break when Bailey Chislett scampered over from close range for his second try of the game. The efforts around centre field of Blake Hodge, Lorenzo Godoy and Matt Le Maistre were particularly noteworthy as Gosford worked feverishly to regain touch. Trailing 24-10 and in desperate need of points, it was time for Benji to shine. The will of the wisp purple marauder responded by adding two tries to his opening half strike, lifting the Storm’s tally to 22. By adding a hat-trick of tries in the grand final, Benji Keene-O’Keefe’s season tally was bumped up to an amazing 43 tries in 14 games. Benji’s final quarter heroics sandwiched a further Woy Woy four pointer however, and the fulltime buzzer rang out at a most inconvenient time; given that our opponents were ahead 28-22. It was a fitting decider to a great season and despite the rub of the grand final green having eluded us, the Gossy boys gave it their all, never once losing their way. Congratulations go out to the coach, trainer, and managers on molding this talented young squad who played sparkling attacking footy throughout the year and who even more importantly, never stopped smiling.

Gosford Storm Into Grand Final --- The Eye ----
The Storm Under 10(2)s completed a tremendous 30-6 victory over the minor premiers, Toukley to guarantee their place in this season’s grand final. An absorbing opening period passed without points as neither side was willing to give an inch, until late in the half when Benji Keene-O’Keefe latched onto a final tackle grubber kick from Blake Hodge to score in the Erina Fair corner. Toukley hit back straight after the break when their powerful prop, Coby Thomas barged over from close range and the scores were locked up at six a piece. The contest ebbed and flowed with both sides taking it in turns to look dangerous with ball in hand, until Gosford’s try scoring wiz, Benji Keene-O’Keefe broke the game apart with two slashing tries down the eastern touchline. Lorenzo Godoy and Blake Hodge also got in on the act during the final quarter hour as the physical Hawks challenge suddenly wilted; the speedy and skillful Storm marauders running their opponents ragged to record a memorable victory. the Eye of the Storm – SEPTEMBER 2016

Oh No, Not Again ! --- The Eye ----
For the third year in succession, the Storm dipped out just a week shy of the grand final following a 22-16 loss to the Berkeley Vale Panthers. A sluggish start to the Under 12(2)s preliminary final saw Berkeley Vale jump out to a 6-0 during the opening set of the game. A break down centre field ended with a kick into the corner, yielding the Panthers a handy, early advantage. The Storm responded well however when Jeremy Hendriksen hit the ball up like a tear away prop, bashing his way over beside the posts having been denied a try just a minute earlier when ruled to have been offside from a kick. the Eye of the Storm – SEPTEMBER 2016
the Eye of the Storm – SEPTEMBER 2016
Three Panthers tries in ten minutes drastically altered the course of the contest however and Gosford’s challenge suddenly lay in tatters as a cluey, early tackle kicking tactic was employed to great effect by our opponents. Trailing 22-6, the Storm were able to regroup; tightening up their defence, the purple team stemmed the hemorrhage of points and when Kyle Dowling scurried into the canteen corner, the halftime deficit was set at twelve.
U12(2)s
The second half provided a gripping stanza of semi final footy as Gosford worked desperately to bridge the gap. Dylan Gale and Callum Skuse were both held up over the line, before the tenacious Berkeley Vale defence was finally breached via the fleet footed Luke Jacobs who notched a much needed try by arcing his way into the right hand corner. At 22-16 and with time all but up, the Storm tried frantically to launch one last, telling attack, however they couldn’t struggle free of their own territory and Berkeley Vale hung on to book themselves a grand final match up with the unbeaten Tigers.

In The Press … Gosford Storm Into Tens Grand Final by Andrew Stark
Coast Community News 25th August, 2016
The Gosford Kariong Under 10(2)s have provided the Cinderella story of this year’s Central Coast junior rugby league semi finals after battling their way from fourth spot on the ladder to qualify for this Saturday’s grand final at Morry Breen Oval. Having traversed three knockout semi finals in as many weeks, Rod Godoy’s young team will head up to Kanwal this Saturday brim full of confidence following an emphatic 30-6 victory over minor premiers Toukley. In a tremendous preliminary final struggle, scores were locked at six a piece into the second half before Gosford wore down the physical challenge posed by the powerful Hawks pack; running around their wilting opponents to score the final four tries of the game. The grand final match up with the Woy Woy Roosters promises to be a real nail biter, given the most recent clash between the two sides, which finished in a thrilling 28 all draw. Not so lucky on preliminary finals day, were the Storm U12(2)s who for the third year in succession have fallen just a week shy of earning a grand final spot. Trailing 22-6 late in the first half, Gosford rallied courageously after the break, throwing everything they could muster at the Panthers line. Resolute Berkeley Vale defence and the fickle fancy of the football Gods conspired against the boys in purple however, consigning Greg Eather’s team to a heartbreaking 22-16 loss. The 2016 Central Coast junior rugby league grand finals will be played at Morry Breen Oval, Kanwal (Saturday 10th September) and Central Coast Stadium (Sunday 11th September).

GOSFORD JUNIORS IN FAIRYTALE FINISH A big cheer goes out to Gosford juniors; Lachie Bell, Josh Pine, Hayden Green, Tom Bateup, Josh Smith & Dale Watson on the fairytale ending to their junior playing days as the Terrigal Sharks U17 side upset the undefeated Tigers 24-22 in a sensational grand final at the Stadium. All the boys had been members of the Storm U15(1)s in 2014 but were forced to head elsewhere when the team fell short of numbers and disbanded prior to the 2015 season.
