riday, April 13, is the last day to drop classes with a “W. Drops are not allowed after the Registrar’s Office closes at 3:45 p.m. on the KC campus and 2:30 p.m. on the KC-Longview campus on April 13, unless the divisional dean approves extenuating circumstances. Flex classes and other courses that do not follow the standard semester calender have varying drop dates. To drop a class, students must visit either the Registrar’s Office on the second floor of the Devall Student Center or the KC-Longview office. Students must fill out a drop request form and indicate their reasons for dropping. A photo I.D. is required.

Students unable to come to campus to drop a class should contact the Registrar’s Office at 903-983-8606 for instructions on how to drop by fax. Drops are not accepted by phone. Students who drop a class with a “W will receive a grade of a “W on their transcript which does not hurt their GPA; however, there are consequences to consider before dropping. The state Legislature passed a law in May 2007 limiting students to six drops in their college career in Texas public institutions, unless drop reasons are approved by the state. For example, if a student drops two classes while at KC, when he transfers to another state college he can only drop four more classes during the rest of his college career. See DROPS on Page 3

Walking across campus in your new post Spring Break outfit in the pouring rain is not ideal. You have no umbrella so your hair is soaked and your shoes are soggy. How could this all have been avoided? KC’s online weather page is up and running again thanks to computer programmer Ray Jackson. Students can now check the weather at http:mykc. kilgore.edu/weather/ before going to class to prepare for the day’s Texas weather. The website shows temperature, humidity, dew point, wind direction, wind speed, rain amount, windchill, solar radiation and more. The server updates every minute to

The sensory equipment was bought in 2005 when the Longview lab was built. Biology instructor William Stowe’s classes primarily use the equipment to easily gather weather data. “It is part of a weekly assignment to get atmospheric data, Stowe said.“The weather station works by taking the data

Financial aid deadlines are fast approaching. General institutional scholarship applications must be postmarked by Sunday, April 1. Scholarship application forms can be found on the KC website under the current and former students tab. Once on this tab, students then need to click on financial aid from the drop down menu then on the word scholarships at the top of the page. Listed on the website are departmental scholarships and forms for both traditional and non-traditional scholarships. General scholarship applications do not apply to departmental scholarships which have their own criteria and contact information and are only available through specific departments. Only incoming freshmen are eligible to apply for the traditional scholarship. All other students must use the non-traditional scholarship application. All applications are considered, but students must fit the criteria to be eligible. Students need to answer application questions clearly and fully. Recommendation letters need to be from more than one source. An instructor may
