Maricopa County approves area plan BY TRACY DEMETROPOLIS
PHOENIX -- In a 6-0 vote, the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors November 20 adopted the final draft of the Daisy Mountain/New River Area Plan, formerly known as the New River Area Plan. The plan is a policy document that provides guidelines for future land uses to 121-square miles of unincorporated county land encompassing New River, Anthem, Desert Hills and other areas of greater North Phoenix. The updated plan will replace the 1999 New River Area Plan. The county Planning and Zoning Commission
officially recommended the approval of the updated plan on October 24, along with a proposal to rename it. The approval of the plan follows an extensive outreach campaign to the nearly 39,000 residents and property owners of the planning area. PHOENIX – On a chilly December morning, nurses and parents bundled up several young patients from Valleywise Health Medical Center and wheeled them outside in wagons and wheelchairs for what must have been a bright spot during a challenging time of their lives. Not only were they greeted by Santa Claus, but Daisy Mountain Firefighters and other supporters were on hand to form a line and unload 160 bags of toys from the moving truck. Within 15 minutes, the sidewalk was covered with bags of gifts – stuffed animals, remote-controlled cars and just about every other
child’s toy imaginable. The annual toy drive and delivery was made possible by the Daisy Mountain Firefighters Charities (DMFC) and members of the community who donated toys and money outside the Anthem Walmart for three weekends after Thanksgiving. DMFC president Jon Binsbacher said the Anthem, New River and North Phoenix communities have never let the children down. Later in the day, DMFC brought more toys to Honor Health Deer Valley and Honor Health Sonoran Health and

To assist with the state’s continued bald eagle population growth, the Arizona Game and Fish Department encourages outdoor recreationists, aircraft pilots, drone operators and motorized paragliders to do their part by not disturbing the state’s 89 eagle breeding areas.
