Group wants incorporation measure on ballot this year, seeks funds and volunteers BY TARA ALATORRE
NEW RIVER – The New River Desert Hills Incorporation Committee (NRDHIC) is seeking donations so it can fund a land survey that will provide a legal description of the potential town, allowing the grassroots organization to move forward in their efforts to make New River an official municipality. NRDHIC is attempting to get the incorporation measure on the ballot this August, but it first needs permission from bordering cities and towns, which have six months to respond once they receive the
request and a legal map. “We’re kind of at the point where we really have to do the survey to move on,” NRDHIC President Laurie Ricci said in a phone interview this week. “We are hopeful they [neighboring municipalities] will respond and we worked really hard to design the least offensive map.” The organization still needs about $10,000 to fund the legal land survey, which needs to be completed by February 15, in order to get official maps and

ANTHEM – Last week the Daisy Mountain Fire and Medical’s (DMFM) recruit class 19-1 began its 14-week training at the Fire Academy's Regional Training Center where they will learn all the skills necessary to become a professional firefighter. The 11 DMFM recruits have been training for the past five weeks leading up to the fire academy that emphasized the importance of teamwork, accountability, physical fitness and mental strength. At the academy the recruits will learn prehospital medicine, vehicle extraction, hazardous materials first response, search and rescue, structural fire attacks, wildland firefighting and
more throughout the strenuous months at the academy. “Daisy Mountain Fire & Medical is proud of this outstanding group of firefighter recruits, and we look forward to having them graduate and join us in the field as we proudly serve our community,” Brent Fenton stated in a DMFM press release. Captain Matt Wood, a veteran of DMFM for 16 years, will be a Recruit Training Officer leading the class of 19-1 at the academy. The entire class consists of 38 firefighter recruits from DMFM, Goodyear, Avondale, Buckeye Valley, Scottsdale and El Mirage.
