Peoria Firefighters in stable condition after explosion BY TARA ALATORRE

PHOENIX – Four Peoria Fire-Medical (PFM) firefighters are in stable condition after becoming injured in an explosion that occurred on the evening of April 19, in North Phoenix at an Arizona Public Service (APS) battery storage facility. Surprise Fire-Medical and PFM firefighters responded to an emergency call around 8 p.m., reporting a fire at the APS McMicken Energy Storage site located near Grand Avenue and Deer Valley Road. team arrived at the building, which is a lithium battery storage facility for APS, it exploded injuring firefighters from Peoria and Surprise, according to a Peoria spokeswoman. The explosion caused chemical burns and all four PFM firefighters were transported to the hospital, some in critical condition, officials said. WASHINGTON – Maricopa County again saw the largest population increase of any county in the nation last year, adding 81,244 residents to make eight straight years of gains, according to figures released Thursday by the Census Bureau. The county was the driving force behind a 122,770-person increase in Arizona’s population, which hit 7.17 million last year, according to the bureau’s yearly population estimates for counties and metro areas.

PEORIA – Peoria on the Go (POGO) a new circulator bus route in north Peoria began service on April 22. This service is free to ride and will operate in each direction – clockwise and counterclockwise with service will be provided every 30 minutes. The counter-clockwise route will begin at 83rd Avenue and Mariners Way and run along 83rd with a stop at Arrowhead Mall. POGO will continue to Deer Valley Road. and then head west to Lake Pleasant Parkway, and follow that back south along 91st Avenue, making its way back along Bell Road to its original destination.

The clockwise route will also start at 83rd Avenue and Mariners Way and will run the opposite direction ensuring that riders are able to get both to and from their ultimate destination quickly. “Improving the connectivity of our community has been a goal of mine for many years, and I am thrilled to introduce the POGO as our latest addition to Peoria’s robust transportation network,” said Mayor Cathy Carlat. “Our city is fast growing; and with the addition of POGO, our residents will have increased mobility to access even more
