Jomax Fire burns more than 1,000 acres ignited from remote-control airplane crash BY TARA ALATORRE

NORTH PHOENIX – A second-alarm brush fire that has burned 1,145 acres surrounding the Phoenix Sonoran Preserve on the afternoon of July 7, was allegedly sparked from a remote-control airplane that crashed, according to Phoenix fire officials. Officials say the Jomax Fire was sparked around 2:30 p.m. near Cave Creek and Jomax roads close to the small airplane field where the remote-control plane had taken off from.

Thunderbird Art Works: A new initiative that pairs local artists with businesses PHOENIX – Thunderbird Arts Center in North Phoenix is proud to present Thunderbird Art Works, a new initiative that pairs local artists with local businesses. The goal is to bring art out of the studios and into public spaces. The opening receptions are free and open to the public, and will take place on Friday, July 12, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at each location. The local businesses that will be displaying artworks include Elevate Coffee Co. located at

the Shops at Norterra, 2530 W. Happy Valley Road. Natalino Italian Restaurant located at 610 E. Bell Road and the Thunderbird Arts Center, 1106 E. Grovers Avenue. Businesses will be offering special promotions and discounts at their respective receptions. Earlier this spring, students and instructors from Thunderbird Arts Center

Anthem Walmart gets a grand reopening, including new electric vehicle charging stations BY TARA ALATORRE

ANTHEM – Walmart’s newest electric vehicle charging station in Arizona was installed at the Anthem store as part of its grand reopening on July 5. The remodeled store also has a new state-of-the-art electronics department with interactive displays, upgraded pharmacy and an expanded fresh food department. “Our store has had a complete makeover and we are ready to show it off to our customers. This was an extensive remodel from top to bottom and with our new charging stations, shopping will be easier and more convenient than ever,” said store manager Rachel Ruiz.

Four electric vehicle (EV) charging locations are now available in front of the garden center in isle 11 at the Anthem Walmart. The chargers are the fastest available on the market, capable of charging 20 miles a minute, and will be available 24 hours a day, according a Walmart spokesperson. “Many of our Walmart associates and customers are EV drivers so providing access to these stations is the right thing to do for our customers, our business and the environment,” Mark Vanderhelm, vice
