CAVE CREEK – When he first wandered through an art festival more than 15 years ago, Paul Diefenderfer had no idea he was about to find a new passion that would lead to a new career as a metal artist and greatly enhance his work as a rope access technician. What began as a hobby that day quickly grew into a business and a passion for making and selling what Diefenderfer calls functional art. This includes high-end gates, elaborate railings, beautifully decorated hooks, intricate light switch covers and much more. Diefenderfer is one of 174 artists participating in Arizona’s largest and longest-running artist studio tour, Hidden in the
Hills (HITH). A signature event of the non-profit Sonoran Arts League, the popular tour takes place at 44 private studios from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. during the last two weekends of November, Nov. 16-18 and Nov. 23-25. The free, self-guided studio tour offers art enthusiasts a rare chance to observe artists at work throughout the scenic Desert Foothills communities of Cave Creek, Carefree and North Scottsdale. Each studio also has one or more guest artists who will demonstrate how they create their art while displaying and selling their work. Unveiling a new studio built
