Hanukkah, heritage—Dylan Kurtz, a 10th grader at Boulder Creek High School and member of The Stardust Singing Troupe, performed “Oh Chanukah” in full costume at the Anthem Community Center Tuesday evening, the sixth night of Hanukkah. Dozens from the local Jewish community attended a menorah lighting ceremony for singing, food and socializing.

The Cave Creek Unified School District moved one step closer to renovating the stadium at Cactus Shadows High School during its Nov. 26 governing board meeting, but its members decided to sidestep the question of whether to also update the high school’s cafeteria. School board member Janet Busbee brought for ward a budget request for approximately $600,000 to renovate Falcon Stadium at Cactus Shadows High School. The project, dubbed “Rebuild the Nest” by Falcons Athletic Club boosters, would address a number of issues with the stadium, track and tennis courts, such as drainage problems, worn out track surfaces, limited bleacher seating and sod shortcomings. Busbee said that “Rebuild the Nest” supporters had approached the board about 2 months ago about renovating the deteriorating track at Falcon Stadium, presenting plans to “overhaul the facility.”

The Arizona Game and Fish Department reported that it had opened the first state-run wildlife rehabilitation and education center in 1983. The facility’s original focus was on treating and rehabilitating sick and injured wildlife. While the center still continues to provide care to wild animals, it also stresses on educating the public about Arizona’s native wildlife.
