It’s still early in the planning stages, but if a North Scottsdale developer has its way Cave Creek could be home to a resort on 220 acres of land at 72nd St. and Continental Mountain Drive. Tennis Ventures customers take in the sites in Australia. The company, started by Anthem resident Chadwick Byrd, puts together vacation packages to both the Australian Open and Wimbledon. Next year they’re adding the French Open. Along with seeing the tennis tournaments the 10-day vacations include court time where vacationers get a chance to play tennis, visit tourist destinations and enjoy fine dining.

As a safety at Boise State in the mid 1990s Chadwick Byrd was responsible for seeing the whole field as the team’s last line of defense, determining in a split second where his team may be vulnerable and filling that void. The 39-year-old Anthem resident is still utilizing those instincts and attention to details in the business world as the owner of Tennis Ventures. After earning a degree in accounting from Boise
State Byrd went to work for People to People, a firm that offers travel opportunities for students, athletes, educators and professionals to destinations all over the globe. During his travels Chadwick had the opportunity to go to Wimbledon to watch tennis at the sport’s most prestigious event. It was at that point he began formulating a business idea that he is now putting into play. In January of this year Byrd took his first group of clients to Australia for a 10-day all inclusive

trip that centered around tennis, both as players and as fans. “I guess I’ve always liked tennis because it’s pretty much the only sport where you can remain competitive throughout your life,” he said. During the trip attendees received on court instruction from professionals as Byrd said the group of 26 spent approximately 2 to 3 hours on the court each day.
