Purchase decision expected on Anthem building
STAFF REPORT
The Anthem Community Council (ACC) Board of Directors is expected to vote on the proposed purchase of the 3701 W. Anthem Way at tonight’s 6:30 p.m. meeting at the Anthem Community Center. The board and staff have spent their time since April 25, the date they entered into a tentative agreement to purchase the building, garnering input from the public on how they feel about the possibility of the $2.3 million purchase of the 36,500 square foot building. Along with providing permanent office space for Anthem and home owner’s association staff the building would serve a variety of other functions for the community. The Board will consider several motions relative to the civic building project, including: • C onsider motion to authorize CEO to take reasonable, prudent, cost effective and necessary action to finalize the purchase of 3701 W. It was an opportunity to get their name out in the community not only for the Deer Valley First Things First Family Resource Center, but also for some of the 20 vendors that turned out for Thursday’s event at the Anthem Community Center. The inaugural DVFRC Health and Wellness Fair was open to families with children ages 0 – 5. “The community is really embracing what we’re trying to do,” FTF coordinator Sherry Steele said in the first hour of the two-hour event. “We’re

Instead of zipping along the water on water skis or anchoring in Humbug Cove to party with other lake goers Interpretive Ranger Terry Gerber will be leading a different kind of adventure at Lake Pleasant on Sunday evening. From 7 – 9:30 p.m. Gerber will take a group exploring the lake in canoes and kayaks under the light of a full moon. “People love the moonlight events,” he said. “We always have at least 40 and have had as many as 90.” For those who own kayaks or canoes participation cost is $6 for vehicle entry into the park. Those that don’t have watercraft can rent them from Scorpion Bay Marina at a rate

of $20 per hour. Life jackets are provided as well as paddles. Another option is renting a standup board. “We launch from near Scorpion Bay and we’ll go to a first little cove where we’ll have a talk and then we’ll head out,” Gerber said. “It’s a slow leisurely pace where people can have conversations along the way and see some neat things.” Gerber said there are a couple necessary items for the trip and then some others that will enhance participants’ evenings. Along with a life jacket and a light, Gerber recommends participants wear clothing they’re comfortable getting wet, giving them a chance to cool off. He also suggests a bag for a
