The buzz of chain saws carving up downed trees filled the air. Water trucks sprayed streets, trying to get some of the mud off the roads. But despite some eyes sores, caused by oversaturated ground and wind, life was back to normal for the vast majority of Anthem residents as of Thursday, two days after a monsoon storm dropped five plus inches of rain in just over an hour. Rene Vides wasn’t as fortunate. Instead of simply doing
some yard work Vides, his wife Christina and their two teenage children were trying to figure out what of their personal items were salvageable after storm waters collapsed the back wall of their neighbors yard and sent flood waters rushing through his house as though it was simply part of a river bed. In looking back on the July 31 storm Rene said he was amazed at how quickly everything happened. “It was maybe 6 p.m. that I noticed it was raining really hard,” he said. “It wasn’t much

MTA earns national recognition

The New River/Desert Hills Community Association (NR/ DHCA) will be hosting its biannual “Meet Your Candidates” night at 7 p.m., Tuesday at the Crossroads Christian Fellowship Church (42425 N. New River Road –map at http://goo.gl/ maps/FRLG). The meeting will run until 9:30 p.m. NR/DHCA invited candidates that will be on primary ballots to represent the area for the U.S. Senate, U.S. House, Arizona Senate, Arizona Representative, County Supervisor, Justice of the Peace for Desert Ridge and other County positions. A monsoon storm caused flooding in Anthem on July 31. In a little more than an hour five inches of rain were reported. While the storm caused flooded several homes in Anthem, flood waters stranded motorists along Carefree Highway.
Musical Theatre of Anthem’s 2011 – 2012 season was recognized with nine honors covering performances in five different shows as the seventh annual National Youth Arts Awards were released last week. Willy Wonka Jr. was named Outstanding Production in the Junior Division Lily Castle, who played Annie in Annie was honored as Outstanding Lead Actress in the Junior Division. Maximillian Carlisle-King earned Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Musical for his performance as Archie in 13. Kaylie Stone was tabbed Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Musical for her portrayal of Getrude in Seussical.
