Federal disaster loans offered for flood victims NEW RIVER – The U. S. Small Business Administration is offering aid to residents and business owners whose property was damaged or destroyed by last month’s flood. The U. S. Small Business Administration has acted under its own authority to declare a disaster in response to a request SBA received from Gov. Jan Brewer on Sept. 3. The disaster declaration makes SBA assistance available in Maricopa County and the neighboring counties of Gila, La Paz, Pima, Pinal, Yavapai, and Yuma. “Low-interest federal disaster loans are available to homeowners, renters, businesses of all sizes, and private, nonprofit organizations whose property was damaged or destroyed by this disaster,” said SBA’s Arizona District Director Robert J. Blaney. SBA representatives will be on hand at the Daisy Mountain Fire Station #141, Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m., from now until further notice to help residents apply for aid. No appointment is necessary.

ANTHEM – Walk. Run. Make a difference. Whatever the method, whatever the motivation – make a difference. Linda’s W.I.S.H. 5k breast cancer run/walk fundraiser at Ironwood golf course in Anthem, on Saturday, Sept. 27, is a chance to make an impact. This event that started in 2001 by Peni Long has grown under the vision and guidance of a team originally started in 2004 to walk the Susan G. Komen AZ 3- day 60 mile breast cancer walk. This team was founded by four women who wanted to contribute their time, efforts, and money to take action. One of those women, Linda Kacmarsky, co-founder, was able to expand the small team from single digits to over 350 people.

Cave Creek, Carefree transportation recommendations presented Tara Alatorre
CAREFREE – The Maricopa Association of Governments shared recommendations for its ongoing transportation framework study for the towns of Carefree and Cave Creek with residents at a public meeting on Sept. 10, identifying that both towns want “complete streets” to provide safer multi-modal transportation on roadways. The recommendations were presented at a public meeting in Carefree and were based on technical analysis of public feedback and responses from an online survey conducted last April.
