New River Mailbox moving; some postal services unavailable until after the move

NEW RIVER –New River Mailbox has been a cornerstone of the New River community for many years. The familiar rural post office will be moving to a new location across the street, with new ownership, effective at the end of next month. Paid postal services can no longer be accepted at the post office at this time, as the process gets underway. The current owners will no longer be running New River Mailbox. ANTHEM – For families who are struggling to get by, Christmas can be a difficult time of year. Daisy Mountain Veterans is teaming up with local schools to help make sure every local child has the chance to get a Christmas present this year. Eight local DVUSD schools are participating, including Anthem School, Boulder Creek High School, Canyon Springs School, Desert Mountain School, Diamond Canyon School, Gavilan Peak School, and New River Elementary. Keeping confidentiality for the

Two pedestrians injured in accident in Cave Creek CAVE CREEK – Two pedestrians sustained serious injuries after being struck by a van in an accident in Cave Creek in the early hours of the morning of Nov. 24. Maricopa County Sheriff ’s Office Deputy Sergeant Nick Schrey, who was off-duty at the time, and his wife Elizabeth Schrey, principal of Echo Mountain Intermediate School, were crossing Cave Creek Rd. near Harold’s Cave Creek Corral at the time of the accident. This toy drive aims to keep everything private and put the focus on bringing joy to a child’s Christmas. “I appreciate the confidentiality that will take place regarding the assistance to families. Families will be nominated and contacted by their local DVUSD principal,” explained Tara LeCount, principal of Diamond Canyon School.

Three people injured in wrong-way collision on I-17
According to accident reports, the driver of the van stayed at the scene, and investigators don’t believe impairment was a factor in the collision. The investigation into the accident is continuing. MCSO has shared the GoFundMe page set up for the family. Nearly $40,000 towards the $50,000 goal has already been collected. According to the fund page, the proceeds will go towards hospital bills, rehabilitation, lost wages, and caring for the Schrey’s children; any remaining funds will go towards getting the street well-lit.
ANTHEM – A pickup truck driver heading south in the northbound lanes of I-17 near the Anthem Way exit struck another vehicle late Monday night. The wrong-way driver and the couple in the Subaru that was hit were all injured in the crash. The freeway was closed for about four hours due to the collision. Reports say that the wrongway driver got on the freeway at New River. He drove about three miles heading southbound on the northbound freeway before the collision.
