DMFD breaks ground on new administration building ELIZABETH MEDORA STAFF
ANTHEM – The Daisy Mountain Fire Department broke ground on a new administrative building in Anthem at a ceremony on March 16. The building will be located next to Station 142, just south of Anthem Way, on Daisy Mountain Dr. The new building is expected to be completed in October 2017. The building will be approximately 7,500 sq. ft. and will include offices, small conference rooms, and a large room for some department training. A dedication ceremony is planned for the opening of the administration building. At the March 16 groundbreaking ceremony,
DMFD Deputy Chief Danny Johnson thanked the community for supporting the bond that made this project possible. He also thanked the firefighters who helped educate the community on why the construction was needed and the design team that worked on the plans. “Projects like this don’t just happen,” Johnson said. “They take the support of many community leaders.” Anthem Community Council Board of Directors President Ryan Halleran also spoke at the groundbreaking, thanking the Daisy Mountain Fire Department for their continued support of the community,

AZGFD Outdoor Expo set for March 25-26 PHOENIX – Don’t miss Arizona’s largest hands-on outdoor expo, set for March 2526, at the Ben Avery Shooting Facility, in north Phoenix. The 2017 Arizona Game and Fish Department Outdoor Expo will be presented by Shikar Safari Club International. Admission and parking are free. The expo includes hands-on fun for all ages. PHOENIX – A crime spree with multiple victims ended on the afternoon of March 15 when Phoenix Police officers used an unmarked police car to stop the driver of a stolen vehicle at North Valley Pkwy. and Dove Valley Rd. The driver, who was suspected of multiple crimes, pointed a weapon at a Phoenix PD officer, according to a release from the Phoenix Police Department, and two Phoenix PD officers fired at the suspect, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

The suspect has been identified as 25-year-old Todd Munson. According to Phoenix PD, officers attempted to apprehend Munson as a suspect in a murder investigation; Munson fled from police, stealing vehicles and cell phones from multiple victims as he made his way from Glendale to north Phoenix. One Phoenix Police officer sustained minor injuries as a result of the collision that stopped the driver; no other officers were injured.
