In process: proposed gas station in permit planning NEW RIVER – Last year, plans for a gas station at the New River Road/I-17 interchange were put forth. The plans are still in motion; the development is going through the permit process. An estimated date for construction has not yet been released. Kevin Tyne, Chief of Staff to Maricopa County District 3 Supervisor Andy Kunasek, noted that the applicant was still in the permit planning process. “After a permit is issued, the owner can begin construction and a follow up inspection by the county will be conducted,” Tyne said. According to the county, the development plans include a Shell convenience store and
Subway restaurant, as well as a propane tank, two underground 18,000 gal. fuel/diesel fuel tanks, and a 20,000 gal. above ground water tank. A fuel sales canopy and diesel sales canopy are also planned. The property was originally zoned for commercial use in 1969, according to county records shared at last year’s meetings regarding the development. A site plan for the property was approved 19 years ago; amendments have been made since then, including changes made last year, when the developer of the property altered the original overflow parking area to be a drainage area, providing improved parking lot management.
