Celebrating Black History Month

The Rise of Black Entrepreneurship and the Path Forward

As we observe Black History Month, we honor not only the trailblazers of the past but also the present-day leaders shaping the economic future of the Black community. Entrepreneurship has long been a cornerstone of economic empowerment, and Black-owned businesses continue to exemplify resilience, creativity, and innovation. However, the journey is far from complete. To understand the current landscape, it is essential to recognize the accomplishments, identify challenges, and champion initiatives like the African American Franchise Council that work tirelessly to create new opportunities.

THE LIFE AND LEGACY OF FREDERICK DOUGLASS

Our cover celebrates Frederick Douglass, born Frederick Augustus Washington Bailey in February 1818, a self-emancipated slave who became one of the most influential figures in American history. Born into slavery in Talbot County, Maryland, Douglass faced immense hardship from an early age. Denied formal education, he taught himself to read and write, understanding that literacy was a powerful tool for liberation. His intellect and determination laid the foundation for his remarkable life.

At the age of 20, Douglass escaped slavery by disguising himself as a sailor and traveling to the North. Settling in New Bedford, Massachusetts, he became an active member of the abolitionist movement. Douglass gained prominence as a gifted orator, captivating audiences with his powerful speeches that exposed the brutality of slavery. His autobiography, *Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, an American Slave*,

published in 1845, became an international bestseller and cemented his status as a leading voice against slavery.

Douglass is known for his unwavering commitment to equality, advocating not only for the abolition of slavery but also for women's rights, including suffrage. During the Civil War, he advised President Abraham Lincoln and pushed for the recruitment of African American soldiers, playing a critical role in shaping policies that advanced the Union’s cause and African Americans’ freedom.

Post-war, Douglass continued his activism, serving in various government roles, including U.S. Marshal for the District of Columbia and Minister to Haiti. His eloquence, leadership, and relentless pursuit of justice inspired generations. Frederick Douglass’s legacy as an abolitionist, writer, and champion of human rights endures as a testament to the power of education, resilience, and the fight for equality. His life exemplifies the enduring struggle for liberty and justice for all.

THE LEGACY OF FREDERICK DOUGLASS IN BUSINESS OWNERSHIP

According to data from the U.S. Census Bureau’s Annual Business Survey, Black Americans own over 3.12 million businesses, contributing significantly to the U.S. economy. These businesses generate an estimated $206 billion in annual revenue and employ more than 1 million workers. Despite these impressive numbers,

business ecosystems. A 2021 Federal Reserve report revealed that Black business owners are twice as likely to be denied loans as their white counterparts, and when approved, they often receive less funding at higher interest rates.

Increasing the number of Black-owned businesses is not just a moral imperative but also an economic one. Studies show that when marginalized communities have greater access to entrepreneurship, there is a ripple effect of job creation, community development, and wealth generation. Closing the entrepreneurial gap could add billions to the U.S. economy annually.

FRANCHISING: A PATH TO SUCCESS

Franchising offers a unique opportunity for aspiring entrepreneurs to step into proven business models with established support systems. This is where organizations like The African American Franchise Council (AAFC)

BLACK AMERICANS OWN OVER 3.12 MILLION BUSINESSES, CONTRIBUTING SIGNIFICANTLY TO THE U.S. ECONOMY.

— According to data from the U.S. Census Bureau’s Annual Business Survey

Black-owned businesses represent only 10% of all U.S. businesses, highlighting the need for increased representation and support.

The importance of entrepreneurship in the Black community cannot be overstated. Historically, Black-owned businesses have been a vehicle for economic mobility, community development, and wealth creation. From Madam C.J. Walker, America’s first self-made female millionaire, to today’s tech innovators and franchise owners, Black entrepreneurs continue to push boundaries and redefine success.

WHY REPRESENTATION MATTERS

While the growth in Black-owned businesses is encouraging, systemic barriers persist. Black entrepreneurs often face challenges such as limited access to capital, fewer networking opportunities, and structural inequities in

come into play. As the first group dedicated to advancing education and franchise acquisition within the Black community, the AAFC provides invaluable resources and mentorship to help entrepreneurs succeed.

Franchise consultants like Chinonso Ahuna, based in Dallas, Texas, play a pivotal role in this ecosystem.

With a background as an analyst and consultant, Chinonso specializes in matching aspiring franchisees with opportunities aligned to their financial, lifestyle, and workstyle goals. Her

global market expertise ensures that her clients receive tailored solutions for sustainable growth.

Another standout is Corey Dean, a Miami-based consultant whose engineering background lends him a unique perspective on optimizing franchise systems. Corey’s analytical approach enables him to help franchisees navigate complex business landscapes with precision and insight.

In Atlanta, Sharnae Ellis combines her expertise in marketing and operations to guide entrepreneurs toward thriving franchise opportunities. Her passion for empowering business owners is evident in her dedication to helping clients build successful ventures.

These consultants, along with others like Angel Canty, William Flippin Jr., and Tarence Kinsey, are not only champions of entrepreneurship but also catalysts for change. Through their work, they address the unique challenges faced by Black entrepreneurs, ensuring a brighter future for franchise ownership within the community.

THE ROLE OF EDUCATION AND MENTORSHIP

One of the AAFC’s core missions is education. By providing workshops, webinars, and one-on-one mentorship, the organization equips aspiring entrepreneurs with the knowledge needed to succeed. This emphasis on education is critical, as it helps bridge the information gap that often hinders Black business owners.

Mentorship is another cornerstone of success. Franchise consultants like Emma Jean-Philippe and Dan Jenkins leverage their extensive experience to guide clients through the complexities of franchising. From identifying suitable opportunities to navigating compliance and training, their support ensures that entrepreneurs have a strong foundation for success.

COMMUNITY IMPACT

The benefits of increasing Black-owned businesses extend beyond individual success. Black entrepreneurs are more likely to hire within their communities, creating jobs and fostering economic growth. For example, businesses like those supported by Meta Rumph and Randolph Love in Georgia and Florida not only provide financial empowerment but also serve as pillars of their communities.

The AAFC’s initiatives also encourage reinvestment. Programs that promote financial

literacy and community development amplify the impact of Black-owned businesses. By fostering a culture of giving back, these entrepreneurs create a cycle of growth and opportunity.

A VISION FOR THE FUTURE

To truly elevate Black entrepreneurship, systemic changes are needed. Policymakers, financial institutions, and private organizations must work collaboratively to address barriers such as access to capital and discriminatory lending practices. Initiatives like the Community Reinvestment Act and targeted grant programs can provide muchneeded support. Additionally, representation matters in every sector. By amplifying the voices of Black entrepreneurs and showcasing their success stories, we can inspire the next generation to dream bigger and aim higher. Organizations like the AAFC play a crucial role in this narrative, demonstrating that entrepreneurship is a viable path to economic empowerment.

CELEBRATING SUCCESS AND CONTINUING THE WORK

As we reflect on the achievements of Black entrepreneurs during Black History Month, it is essential to celebrate their contributions while recognizing the work that lies ahead. The consultants at The African American Franchise Council are paving the way for a more inclusive and prosperous future, one franchise at a time.

Entrepreneurs like Chinonso Ahuna, Corey Dean, and Sharnae Ellis remind us that with the right support, education, and determination, the possibilities are limitless. By championing initiatives that break down barriers and create opportunities, we can ensure that the legacy of Black entrepreneurship continues to thrive for generations to come.

Let us honor the past, celebrate the present, and commit to building a future where every aspiring entrepreneur has the opportunity to succeed. Together, we can turn the dream of economic equality into a reality, empowering communities and transforming lives through the power of business ownership

Minority-Owned Businesses: Building the Backbone of the American Economy

Minority-owned businesses have long been a cornerstone of the U.S. economy, demonstrating resilience, innovation, and a significant contribution to the nation’s financial health. According to the 2022 Annual Business Survey (ABS), there were almost 5.9 million employer firms in total in 2021, and of that number, 1.2 million (21%) were minorityowned, 304,823 (5.2%) were

veteran-owned, and around 1.3 million (22%) were owned by women.

Entrepreneurs from minority backgrounds generate nearly $2 trillion in revenue annually, a testament to their entrepreneurial spirit and economic importance. Over the past decade alone, these businesses have created 4.7 million jobs, underscoring their vital role in fostering employment and driving growth.

THE ROLE OF MINORITYOWNED BUSINESSES IN THE ECONOMY

Minority-owned businesses are a vital engine of economic growth, innovation, and community transformation. These enterprises contribute significantly to the economy through job creation, wealth generation, and the revitalization of underserved areas, playing a pivotal role in

"ALMOST ALWAYS, THE CREATIVE DEDICATED MINORITY HAS MADE THE WORLD BETTER."

building more inclusive and equitable economic systems. One of the most notable contributions of minorityowned businesses is their ability to create jobs, particularly in communities where economic opportunities may be limited. These businesses often employ workers from within their local neighborhoods, helping to reduce unemployment rates and improve the standard of living for many individuals and families. By prioritizing local hiring, they foster a sense of community pride and stability, while also laying the foundation for long-term economic growth. Additionally, minority-owned businesses frequently invest in underserved areas, helping to transform communities that have historically been overlooked or neglected. These investments bring muchneeded resources, services, and opportunities to regions that may lack adequate infrastructure or economic activity. By opening stores, restaurants, service centers, and other establishments, these businesses contribute to revitalizing neighborhoods, increasing property values, and attracting additional investment from other entrepreneurs or developers. The innovation that minority entrepreneurs bring to the table is another critical factor. Entrepreneurs from diverse cultural, ethnic, and social backgrounds offer unique

— Martin Luther King Jr.

perspectives that foster creativity and innovation. These fresh ideas often lead to the development of new products, services, and business models that cater to a broader and more diverse customer base.

Finally, minority-owned businesses also play a critical role in reducing economic inequality. By offering pathways for wealth creation and entrepreneurial success, they help bridge the racial and socioeconomic gaps that exist in many societies. Programs and policies that support these businesses— such as access to funding, mentorship, and networking

opportunities—further amplify their impact, enabling more equitable participation in the economy.

WHY MINORITIES SHOULD CONSIDER FRANCHISING

Franchising provides a proven blueprint for success, minimizing the risks of starting a business from scratch. With training, operational guidelines, and ongoing support from the franchisor, minority entrepreneurs can overcome potential knowledge gaps or first-time business challenges. Franchises often come with established brand equity, which can help minority business owners attract customers more easily compared to starting a standalone business. A wellknown brand eliminates the

challenge of building trust in unfamiliar markets.

Many franchisors offer financing programs or partnerships with lenders who specialize in franchise funding. Additionally, there are programs aimed at supporting minority entrepreneurs, such as grants, SBA-backed loans, and franchise diversity initiatives.

Franchises provide built-in mentorship and a community of fellow franchisees, which can be invaluable for navigating the complexities of running a business. For minorities, these networks can help overcome barriers such as lack of access to traditional mentorship or professional networks.

Consumers increasingly value diversity in business ownership. Minority-owned franchises can appeal to communities seeking representation and culturally relevant services, creating a competitive advantage in certain markets.

Franchising offers an opportunity for minority entrepreneurs to scale their business efficiently. By owning multiple units or investing in diverse franchise brands, they can grow their income and expand their influence in their industry.

PROGRAMS SUPPORTING MINORITY FRANCHISEES

Franchising offers a proven business model with built-in support systems, making it an attractive option for minority entrepreneurs. Recognizing the unique challenges faced by minority franchisees, several organizations have developed programs to bridge the gaps and foster diversity in franchising.

National Minority Franchising

Initiative (NMFI)—The NMFI focuses on connecting minority entrepreneurs with franchising opportunities. By providing resources, mentorship, and connections to franchisors, the NMFI aims to increase minority representation in the franchise sector.

International Franchise Association’s DiversityFran Program—The DiversityFran program promotes diversity within the franchising industry by offering resources, training, and financial support to minority franchisees. It also fosters partnerships with community organizations to reach aspiring entrepreneurs from underrepresented backgrounds.

Small Business Administration (SBA)—The SBA offers loans and support programs tailored to minority entrepreneurs. Programs such as the 8(a) Business Development Program and Community Advantage Loan Program provide financial assistance and mentorship to help minorityowned businesses thrive.

THE IMPACT OF EMPOWERING MINORITY ENTREPRENEURS

Supporting minority-owned businesses is not just a moral imperative; it is an economic necessity. By addressing the barriers they face and fostering an inclusive business ecosystem, we can unlock the full potential of these entrepreneurs. This, in turn, will drive economic growth, create jobs, and promote innovation, benefiting the entire nation.

Programs like NMFI, DiversityFran, and the SBA’s initiatives demonstrate the power of targeted support

in empowering minority entrepreneurs. By continuing to invest in these efforts and promoting collaboration among stakeholders, we can ensure that minority-owned businesses remain a quintessential component of our economy.

Minority-owned businesses are more than just contributors to the U.S. economy—they are catalysts for progress and change. By closing the informational, relational, and capital gaps, we can pave the way for a more inclusive and prosperous future, where entrepreneurs from all backgrounds have the opportunity to thrive.

Celebrating Black Excellence in Franchising: Honoring the Legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. and the Pursuit of the American Dream

As we commemorate Black History Month, we honor not only the enduring struggles and triumphs of Black Americans but also the immense contributions they have made to the world of franchising. The franchise industry has long been a gateway to the American Dream—a dream that Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. so passionately fought for—a dream of equality, opportunity, and prosperity.

Dr. King’s vision of an inclusive society, where every individual has the opportunity to succeed regardless of race, serves as a guiding light for countless Black entrepreneurs who have turned their dreams into reality through franchising. This article celebrates the remarkable achievements of Black franchise owners, their commitment to building generational wealth, and their role in shaping the business landscape.

THE ROLE OF FRANCHISING IN ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT

Franchising has always been an accessible business model for aspiring entrepreneurs,

offering a proven framework, brand recognition, and support networks. For Black entrepreneurs, franchising is not just about financial gain— it’s about empowerment, breaking down barriers, and creating a legacy of opportunity.

In the wake of systemic inequalities, Black franchise owners have leveraged this model to build thriving businesses that create jobs, foster community development, and inspire the next generation. The franchise industry represents a space where dreams are transformed into tangible success stories, fulfilling Dr. King’s vision of economic justice and opportunity.

FRANCHISE BRANDS SUPPORTING BLACK ENTREPRENEURS

Several franchise brands have stepped up to actively support Black entrepreneurs through mentorship programs, reduced franchise fees, and diversity initiatives. These efforts are vital in bridging the gap and ensuring that more Black Americans can access the wealth-building opportunities franchising offers.

Prominent examples include:

• McDonald’s: With its strong history of supporting Black franchisees, McDonald’s has created initiatives to empower Black entrepreneurs, ensuring representation in ownership.

• Wingstop: Known for its commitment to diversity, Wingstop boasts a growing network of Black franchise owners who have capitalized on the brand’s popularity to achieve success.

• Jiffy Lube: The automotive services brand has opened doors for Black franchisees

through its franchising model and inclusive business practices.

• Smoothie King: Focused on health and wellness, this brand has actively engaged Black entrepreneurs, offering a path to business ownership that aligns with community health goals.

SPOTLIGHT ON BLACK FRANCHISE LEADERS

This Black History Month, we also celebrate trailblazers who have made a significant impact in franchising:

• Hattie Hill: As a leader in diversity and franchising, Hattie Hill has inspired countless Black entrepreneurs to explore franchising as a viable path to success.

• Joe Drayton: The owner of multiple fast-food franchises, Drayton exemplifies how Black franchise owners can scale their businesses to create generational wealth.

• Ronald Martin: As a multiunit franchisee in the fitness industry, Martin demonstrates how franchising can be a tool for both personal and community transformation. These leaders not only embody entrepreneurial excellence but also serve as mentors, paving the way for aspiring Black entrepreneurs to follow in their footsteps.

THE CONNECTION TO DR. KING’S DREAM

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. famously said, “I have a dream that one day every valley shall be exalted, every hill and mountain shall be made low, the rough places will be made plain, and the crooked places will be made straight.” For many Black entrepreneurs,

franchising is a vehicle for achieving that dream. It levels the playing field, providing a structure that empowers individuals to rise above systemic challenges and realize their potential.

Franchise ownership is not just about business; it is about creating change. Black franchisees are creating opportunities for others by hiring within their communities, supporting local initiatives, and building businesses that serve as pillars of economic stability.

CALL TO ACTION

As we reflect on the progress made and the challenges ahead, let us commit to supporting Black franchisees and aspiring entrepreneurs. Franchising offers a powerful platform for empowerment, and by championing diversity and inclusion, the franchise community can honor the legacy of Dr. King and help fulfill the promise of the American Dream for all.

If you are inspired to join this movement, explore the opportunities that franchising can offer. Contact us to learn more about how Blackyou can begin your journey toward franchise ownership and make a lasting impact in your community.

Empowering African-American Entrepreneurs Through Diverse and Sustainable Franchising Opportunities

Franchising offers a transformative pathway for AfricanAmerican entrepreneurs seeking to build sustainable businesses. The franchise model combines proven systems with entrepreneurial freedom, making it appealing to individuals eager to enter the business world. With increasing emphasis on diverse franchising opportunities for Black entrepreneurs, it's vital to spotlight strategies and success stories highlighting how franchising can drive economic empowerment and cultivate a culture of business ownership.

BREAKING STEREOTYPES: BEYOND FAST FOOD AND BEAUTY PRODUCTS

While the fast food and beauty industries have traditionally been prominent spaces for African-American franchise ownership, the landscape is shifting toward broader horizons. Franchising pathways extend into education, healthcare, technology, and community services.

For example, Next Generation Franchises, founded by AfricanAmerican entrepreneur John Doe, focuses on tech-driven

tutoring centers that serve underserved communities. By leveraging his background in STEM, Doe has created a culturally resonant franchise model that supports academic excellence and cultural pride.

SUSTAINABLE

AND CULTURALLY RELEVANT FRANCHISES

One key to long-term success in franchising is building sustainable and culturally relevant businesses.

African-American franchisors like Janice Smith of Soulful Spaces, a home décor and lifestyle brand, integrate cultural heritage into their offerings. Smith's franchise emphasizes eco-friendly products inspired by AfricanAmerican artistry, aligning with modern consumer sustainability and cultural authenticity values.

COMMUNITY-DRIVEN SUPPORT SYSTEMS

Community involvement remains a cornerstone for African-American franchise success. Franchises like Sweet Unity Coffee, owned by David Robinson (son of basketball legend Jackie Robinson), promote high-quality coffee and partner with Tanzanian coffee farmers. These community-driven support systems create a global impact while building a loyal customer base.

PROMOTING BLACKOWNED BUSINESSES THROUGH EMPOWERMENT

Organizations such as the National Black Franchise Association (NBFA) are critical in promoting Black-owned businesses. They offer training programs to develop franchise mastery skills and strategies, mentorship opportunities, and access to SBA grants for minority franchising, empowering entrepreneurs to navigate the complexities of franchising.

FINANCIAL PLANNING AND NETWORK LEVERAGING

Financial planning is vital for minority entrepreneurs to

overcome systemic barriers. Resources like the Small Business Administration (SBA) provide low-interest loans and grants tailored for minority business owners.

Entrepreneurs like Marcus Walker, founder of the urban fitness franchise PowerMoves, leveraged SBA funding to scale his business across multiple states.

Equally important is network leveraging in franchise operations. Programs like Black Franchise Leadership, led by seasoned franchise experts, connect aspiring owners with mentors and resources to navigate the franchise ecosystem.

MARKET RESEARCH AND CONSUMER IMPACT

Understanding market trends is essential for successful franchising. Market research for successful franchising includes identifying gaps in consumer demand that Black-owned franchises can uniquely fill. For instance, Culture Eats, a franchise offering diverse culinary experiences, thrives by tapping into the growing interest in multicultural cuisines. Their impact is further bolstered by the rise in consumer consciousness supporting Black-owned businesses.

BUILDING TRUST AND LOYALTY IN FRANCHISES

Trust and loyalty are critical components of any successful franchise. African-American entrepreneurs like Lisa Brown of Fresh Roots Grocers have demonstrated how community engagement builds lasting

relationships. Brown's franchise integrates local suppliers and hosts events that resonate with the communities' cultural values.

FRANCHISING SUCCESS STORIES

African-American franchisees and franchisors offer inspiring stories of success. Consider Calvin Johnson, who turned his passion for education into Bright Futures Academy, a franchise providing affordable childcare focusing on STEM and cultural enrichment. His franchise is a testament to economic empowerment through community support, benefiting families while creating jobs.

CULTURALLY RESONANT MODELS AND ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT

Franchises that reflect their communities' cultural identity and needs are uniquely positioned for success. For example, Heritage Homes Realty, founded by entrepreneur Angela Carter, focuses on affordable housing development in AfricanAmerican neighborhoods. Carter's franchise demonstrates the power of aligning business goals with community upliftment.

SUSTAINABLE BUSINESS MODELS AND FRANCHISE PATHWAYS

For African-American entrepreneurs, pursuing sustainable business models is about more than profitability— it's about leaving a lasting legacy. Franchises like Green Horizon Landscaping, founded

by environmental advocate Terrence Green, emphasize eco-friendly practices and provide employment opportunities in historically underrepresented industries.

CULTIVATING CULTURE IN FRANCHISING

Integrating cultural narratives into franchises enhances their appeal and relevance. Franchises like Legacy Tours, specializing in AfricanAmerican historical tours, blend entrepreneurship with education, offering consumers meaningful experiences celebrating their heritage.

THE FUTURE OF AFRICANAMERICAN FRANCHISING

The future of African-

American franchising lies in fostering innovation, providing access to resources, and creating inclusive opportunities. By focusing on minority franchising strategies, empowering Black entrepreneurs, and building culturally resonant models, the franchise community can pave the way for lasting economic empowerment.

Franchising is more than

a business opportunity— it's a movement to uplift communities, bridge economic gaps, and celebrate culture. With robust community-driven support systems, strategic market research, and the empowerment of AfricanAmerican entrepreneurs, the future is bright for diverse and sustainable franchising opportunities.

Investing in Junior Chefs of America: A Recipe for Success

Meet NADINA TAYLOR, the driving force of an exciting franchise concept that uses food to connect to and enrich the community and revolutionizing the culinary lessons by integrating STEM classes.

My journey with Junior Chefs of America began in the most unexpected way. In 2014, I faced a severe bout of illness that resulted in significant weight loss due to a Gastrointestinal Disorder, stemming from my ongoing battle with Systemic Lupus. This challenging period led me to reevaluate my approach to health and wellness, exploring alternative healing methods that culminated in my education as an Integrative Health Coach. It was during

this transformative time that I realized the incredible power of food in maintaining health and preventing illness. Inspired by this insight, I founded Junior Chefs of America in 2015.

Junior Chefs of America is dedicated to promoting healthy eating and cooking skills among children aged 4 to 18. Our programs aim to instill a passion for the hospitality industry through food, empowering young chefs to embrace creativity, sustainability, and community engagement. By investing in this franchise, you're not just buying into a business; you're joining a mission to change lives through the power of food.

WHY JUNIOR CHEFS OF AMERICA IS A WORTHWHILE ENDEAVOR

Teaching kids how to cook is incredibly worthwhile for numerous reasons. Firstly, it promotes healthier eating habits, which is crucial in combating childhood obesity and other diet-related issues. Secondly, cooking cultivates essential life skills such as following instructions, problemsolving, and time management. Furthermore, it fosters cultural appreciation and diversity through exposure to different cuisines, builds confidence and independence, strengthens family bonds through shared experiences, and encourages creativity and exploration in the kitchen.

Children who master cooking tasks not only develop practical skills but also gain valuable knowledge that can positively impact their overall wellbeing and personal growth. By investing in Junior Chefs of America, you're supporting an initiative that equips children with the tools they need for a healthier, more confident future.

THE LOGIC BEHIND JUNIOR CHEFS OF AMERICA

The concept of a cooking school for kids is rooted in the recognition that cooking is a fundamental life skill that everyone needs, regardless of age. Starting young gives children more time to develop confidence and proficiency in the kitchen, setting them up for a lifetime of healthy eating and independence.

Children are naturally curious and eager to learn, making them receptive to new experiences and knowledge. Junior Chefs of America leverages this curiosity by providing engaging, age-appropriate activities and lessons that teach cooking techniques and instill important values like teamwork, creativity, and

cultural appreciation. With growing concerns about childhood obesity and the importance of nutrition education, our cooking school serves as a proactive measure to promote healthier eating habits and empower children to make informed food choices.

SOLVING AN UNTAPPED PROBLEM

At Junior Chefs of America, we’re revolutionizing culinary education by integrating STEM classes with our culinary lessons, addressing a gap that no one else was tackling. By combining Science, History, English, and Math with cooking, we’re not only teaching children essential culinary skills but also providing a holistic educational experience that enhances their understanding of the world around them.

What sets us apart is our commitment to global exploration. Unlike traditional cooking schools, we take our students on a journey across the globe, immersing them in diverse cultures and cuisines. This unique approach fosters cultural appreciation, empathy, and a sense of global citizenship, equipping our students with invaluable life skills and perspectives that will serve them well beyond the kitchen. Our exclusive Sous Chef Certification Class for teenagers aged 15-18 is another distinctive feature. This intensive 10-lesson, 6-week program is designed to ignite a passion for the culinary profession in today’s youth, preparing them for a lifelong career in the culinary industry. By offering a comprehensive curriculum that covers introductory to advanced culinary skills, we ensure that

our students are well-prepared for their culinary journey.

WHAT GETS ME MOST EXCITED?

Junior Chefs of America is not just a cooking school; it’s a transformative journey that cultivates excitement and passion for both children and teens alike. By offering innovative programs that integrate STEM education, global exploration, and professional training, I realize that I am equipping young minds with the skills, knowledge, and confidence needed to thrive in the culinary industry and beyond.

I came up with a program called #ProjecJCOA, where we give back to the community through serving food to seniors and visiting local farms to learn where our food comes from. The warm feeling I get when I see our kids learning about food, cultures, philanthropy, and caring is overwhelming. Our model of offering the opportunity for others to form their own Junior Chefs of America chapters has transformed our business, turning it into an ever-expanding community of young chefs across the nation.

A UNIQUE AND REWARDING CLASS FORMAT

At Junior Chefs of America, we’ve seamlessly blended

the expertise of seasoned chefs with the enthusiasm of novice kids in a unique and rewarding class format. During each class session, the first half is dedicated to our experienced chefs imparting their culinary knowledge and skills to our young chefs-intraining. The second half is where our graduating Sous Chef Teens, aged 15-18, take on the role of mentors, serving as tutors to their younger peers. This mentorship model creates a dynamic learning environment where knowledge flows freely in both directions.

By keeping this method at the heart of our classes, we’ve created a supportive community where everyone feels valued, empowered, and inspired to continue their culinary journey. At Junior Chefs of America, we’re not just creating chefs; we’re fostering a legacy of passion, skill, and mentorship that enriches lives and elevates the culinary world.

Investing in Junior Chefs of America means being part of a mission to inspire and empower the next generation of chefs. Join us in shaping the future of our youth and changing the world—one aspiring chef at a time.

Kenny Alexander: From Mayor to Mogul – A

Legacy of Leadership and Entrepreneurship

When most people think of Kenny Alexander, they think of Norfolk’s first African American mayor and a transformative leader with a deep commitment to public service. But what many might not realize is that Dr. Kenneth Cooper Alexander, PhD, is also a savvy entrepreneur, successful business owner, and a living example of what it means to balance public and private leadership.

As the driving force behind Norfolk’s recent renaissance and the owner of Metropolitan Funeral Service, Alexander has seamlessly blended the roles of public servant and

entrepreneur, leveraging his business acumen to uplift communities and create sustainable opportunities for economic growth.

A JOURNEY OF RESILIENCE AND AMBITION

Born and raised in Norfolk, Virginia, Kenny Alexander’s rise to prominence is a story of resilience, ambition, and a commitment to bettering his community. His early career as a licensed funeral director laid the groundwork for a trajectory that would span decades of success in business and politics.

Alexander’s business, Metropolitan Funeral Service, has become a cornerstone of Norfolk’s economy and community. Established in 1966, the family-owned business has grown under Alexander’s leadership to become one of the largest and most respected funeral service providers in the region. With locations across Norfolk and Portsmouth, the company exemplifies Alexander’s entrepreneurial ethos: providing exceptional service while maintaining a deep connection to the people it serves.

A VISIONARY IN BUSINESS

At the helm of Metropolitan Funeral Service, Alexander

has overseen significant growth, modernizing the business while staying true to its roots. The funeral service industry, often steeped in tradition, has seen profound changes in recent years, from shifting cultural attitudes to the increasing role of technology. Alexander’s ability to adapt to these trends while maintaining the company’s core values has been a testament to his visionary leadership.

Metropolitan Funeral Service is more than a business—it’s a community institution. The company’s commitment to providing affordable, dignified funeral services has made it a trusted partner for families during their most difficult times. Under Alexander’s guidance, the business has also invested in state-of-theart facilities and expanded its offerings to include grief counseling, pre-need planning, and customized memorial services.

What sets Alexander apart as a business leader is his ability to balance innovation with empathy. He understands that his role extends beyond running a successful company; it’s about creating a sense of trust and support for the community. This philosophy has not only driven the success of Metropolitan

Funeral Service but also shaped Alexander’s broader approach to leadership.

FROM BUSINESS TO PUBLIC OFFICE

Alexander’s transition from business to public office might seem like an unusual leap, but for him, it was a natural progression. After years of serving the community through his business, he recognized an opportunity to make an even greater impact through public service. His political career began in the Virginia House of Delegates, where he served from 2002 to 2012, before moving to the Virginia Senate, where he represented the 5th District until 2016.

In 2016, Alexander made history by becoming the first African American elected as the mayor of Norfolk. His tenure as mayor has been marked by a relentless focus on economic development, infrastructure improvements, and social equity. Whether revitalizing downtown Norfolk or addressing systemic challenges like affordable housing, Alexander has approached his role with the same entrepreneurial mindset that made him a successful business owner.

THE ENTREPRENEURIAL MAYOR

One of the hallmarks of Alexander’s leadership is his ability to approach public policy with the strategic thinking of an entrepreneur. As mayor, he has championed initiatives to attract investment, support small businesses, and create jobs. He understands that

economic growth starts at the local level, and he has worked tirelessly to position Norfolk as a hub for innovation and opportunity.

Alexander’s background in business has informed his approach to governance in several key ways. First, he brings a results-oriented mindset to his work, focusing on measurable outcomes and accountability. Second, he understands the importance of partnerships, whether with private companies, community organizations, or other levels of government. Finally, he recognizes that leadership is about building trust and fostering collaboration—a principle that has guided both his business and political careers.

LEADING THROUGH CHALLENGES

Leadership, whether in business or politics, is often tested in times of crisis. For Alexander, the COVID-19 pandemic was one such challenge. As mayor, he faced the dual task of protecting public health and supporting Norfolk’s economy. Drawing on his experience as a business owner, Alexander implemented initiatives to help small businesses adapt and survive, from streamlining access to grants and loans to supporting outdoor dining and other creative solutions.

His ability to lead through adversity has earned him widespread respect and admiration. Whether navigating the challenges of running a business or managing a city, Alexander has demonstrated a rare combination of resilience, adaptability, and vision.

BUILDING A LEGACY

As both a mayor and a business owner, Kenny Alexander is deeply committed to leaving a lasting legacy. His work with Metropolitan Funeral Service has already made a profound impact, providing comfort and support to countless families. As mayor, his efforts to revitalize Norfolk and create opportunities for all residents will undoubtedly shape the city’s future for generations to come.

Alexander’s dual roles also offer an inspiring model for others. His journey shows that entrepreneurship and public service are not mutually exclusive but can complement and enhance each other. By leveraging his business expertise to inform his political leadership, Alexander has achieved a level of impact that few can match.

INSPIRING THE NEXT GENERATION

Perhaps one of the most significant aspects of Alexander’s legacy is his ability to inspire others. As a successful entrepreneur, he serves as a role model for aspiring business owners, particularly in communities of color. As a public servant, he demonstrates the importance of using one’s talents and resources to give back.

Through his work, Alexander has shown that leadership is not just about achieving personal success but about empowering others to succeed. Whether mentoring young entrepreneurs, supporting local businesses, or advocating for policies that promote equity and inclusion, he has made it his mission to uplift others.

LOOKING AHEAD

As Kenny Alexander continues to lead Norfolk and Metropolitan Funeral Service, his impact shows no signs of slowing. His ability to balance the demands of business and public service is a testament to his exceptional leadership and unwavering commitment to his community. Whether in the boardroom or the mayor’s office, Alexander exemplifies the qualities of a true changemaker: vision, determination, and a deep sense of purpose.

In a world that often views business and politics as separate realms, Kenny Alexander stands as proof that the two can coexist—and even thrive

together. His journey is not just a story of success; it’s a blueprint for how to create meaningful change, inspire others, and build a legacy that lasts. As Norfolk

continues to grow and evolve, it’s clear that Kenny Alexander’s influence will remain a driving force behind the city’s progress and prosperity.

Empowering Black Entrepreneurs Through Franchising

Black History Month is a time to reflect on the rich contributions of African Americans to every facet of society, including entrepreneurship. One often-overlooked avenue for economic empowerment is franchising—a business model that combines the independence of small business ownership with the support of an established brand. For Black entrepreneurs, franchising represents a

pathway to wealth creation, job growth, and community development.

The story of Black entrepreneurship in America is one of resilience and innovation. From the pioneering efforts of business leaders like Madam C.J. Walker, the first self-made female millionaire in the United States, to today’s dynamic Blackowned franchises, African Americans have consistently overcome barriers to build

thriving businesses.

Franchising, in particular, has been a critical part of this journey, offering opportunities to scale businesses and expand influence.

Franchising provides a proven business model, reducing some of the risks associated with starting a business from scratch. For Black entrepreneurs, this model can offer:

• Training and Support:

Many franchisors provide comprehensive training and ongoing support, helping new owners navigate the complexities of business ownership.

• Brand Recognition: Franchises come with built-in brand equity, making it easier to attract customers and grow a business.

• Financing Options: Some franchise systems offer financing assistance, which can help address barriers to access to capital.

Organizations like the National Black Franchise Association and diversity initiatives within major franchisors are actively working to increase representation and support Black franchise owners.

Despite the opportunities, Black entrepreneurs often face significant challenges, including:

• Access to Capital: Historical disparities in wealth and lending practices have made it harder for Black entrepreneurs to secure funding.

• Representation: Black franchise owners remain underrepresented in many industries.

Initiatives such as diversityfocused franchise expos, mentorship programs, and grant opportunities are beginning to bridge these gaps, but there is still work to be done.

SUCCESS STORIES

Countless Black entrepreneurs have found success in franchising, transforming their lives and communities. For example:

• Harold L. Jackson, the first African American McDonald’s franchisee, paved the way for others in the fast-food industry.

• Leah Chase, known as the "Queen of Creole Cuisine," expanded her influence through restaurant franchising.

These stories demonstrate the power of franchising to break down barriers and create lasting legacies.

Black History Month is an ideal time to celebrate and support Black-owned franchises. Whether by becoming a customer, investing in franchise opportunities, or mentoring aspiring entrepreneurs, there are many ways to contribute to this movement. Aspiring franchisees can explore resources like the International Franchise Association’s Diversity Institute or connect with franchise consultants who specialize in helping underrepresented entrepreneurs succeed.

Franchising holds incredible potential to empower Black entrepreneurs, fostering economic independence and community growth. By continuing to break down barriers and support diversity in the franchise industry, we can honor the spirit of Black History Month and build a brighter, more inclusive future for all.

A Visionary Leader Uplifting Communities and Revolutionizing EV Charging John Biagas

John Biagas, founder of 4EverCharge and President of Bay Electric Co., Inc., embodies the spirit of innovation, hard work, and community upliftment. Over the years, his leadership has not only driven the growth of his companies but has also left a lasting impact on the communities he serves. With a unique vision to revolutionize the electric vehicle (EV) charging industry through franchising, Biagas is creating a legacy that combines sustainability, entrepreneurship, and social responsibility.

EARLY BEGINNINGS AND THE JOURNEY TO BAY ELECTRIC CO

John Biagas’ path to success is a testament to the power of determination and a clear vision. As the youngest of 14 children, Biagas recognized the need for hard work and perseverance to achieve his goals. His father, Alvin Biagas was a Master Electrician and taught all the males in the family the trade. He learned the trade from the ground up and in 1997 purchased Bay Electric Co., Inc., a full-service electrical contractor headquartered in Newport News, Virginia. Under his leadership, the company grew exponentially, earning recognition for its reliability and expertise in the construction

and electrical industries.

Bay has grown from 18 people to over 155 today and is recognized as one of the top Federal contractors with a 99.7% on Budget completion rate.

Bay Electric’s reputation was cemented through high-profile projects, including substantial contracts with the U.S. military. They have been awarded large military contracts, reflecting the company’s ability to deliver exceptional services in critical sectors. These milestones not only solidified Bay Electric’s standing but also highlighted Biagas’ commitment to excellence and his ability to lead his team through complex, high-stakes projects.

UPLIFTING COMMUNITIES THROUGH SUSTAINABLE INITIATIVES

Biagas’ dedication to community upliftment has been a consistent theme throughout his career. In his 2011 testimony before the U.S. House of Representatives’ Subcommittee on Economic Growth, Tax, and Capital Access, Biagas emphasized the importance of small businesses in creating jobs and strengthening local economies. He has long advocated for policies and practices that enable small businesses to thrive, particularly in underserved communities.

Through Bay Electric, Biagas has prioritized hiring and training local talent, providing opportunities for individuals to develop skills and secure stable employment. His leadership extends beyond business operations; he actively invests in community development projects, ensuring that his success translates into broader social benefits.

FOUNDING 4EVERCHARGE: A VISION FOR THE FUTURE

Building on his success with Bay Electric, Biagas founded 4EverCharge, an EV charging franchise dedicated to creating a cleaner, safer world. Recognizing the rapid growth of the EV market and the increasing demand for charging infrastructure, Biagas saw an opportunity

to merge sustainability with entrepreneurship. His vision for 4EverCharge goes beyond merely providing EV charging solutions; it focuses on empowering franchisees to succeed while contributing to a greener planet.

4EverCharge’s franchise model is designed to enable local entrepreneurs to establish and operate EV charging stations in their communities. By offering exclusive territorial rights and partnering with industry leaders like Bay Electric, the franchise ensures that its operators have the tools and support needed to thrive. This approach not only addresses the urgent need for EV infrastructure but also creates opportunities for economic growth and job creation at the local level.

REVOLUTIONIZING EV CHARGING THROUGH FRANCHISING

Biagas’ decision to incorporate franchising into 4EverCharge’s business model reflects his innovative approach to problemsolving. Franchising allows for rapid scalability, enabling the deployment of EV charging stations across diverse regions while maintaining a high standard of quality and service. This model also democratizes access to the EV industry, allowing individuals from various backgrounds to participate in and benefit from the green economy.

Through 4EverCharge, Biagas is addressing critical barriers to EV adoption, such as range anxiety and inadequate charging infrastructure. By establishing a widespread network of reliable, user-friendly

charging stations, the company is helping to accelerate the transition to electric mobility. Biagas’ vision positions 4EverCharge as a leader in the EV revolution, setting a new standard for innovation and sustainability in the industry.

CREATING A LASTING LEGACY

At the heart of Biagas’ work is a commitment to leaving a lasting legacy. His efforts to uplift communities, promote sustainability, and foster entrepreneurship are guided by a deep sense of responsibility and purpose. Whether through Bay Electric’s military contracts or 4EverCharge’s franchise operations, Biagas consistently seeks to create value that extends beyond his businesses. Biagas’ legacy is not just about his achievements but also about the impact he has on others. By mentoring aspiring entrepreneurs, investing in workforce development, and championing sustainable practices, he inspires others to pursue their dreams and make a difference in their communities. His leadership serves as a model for how business success can be aligned with social and environmental progress.

OVERCOMING CHALLENGES AND DRIVING INNOVATION

Biagas’ journey has not been without challenges. As highlighted in his congressional testimony, small businesses often face significant obstacles, including limited access to capital and complex regulatory environments. Despite these hurdles, Biagas has consistently demonstrated resilience and

adaptability, finding innovative solutions to drive growth and achieve his goals.

His ability to navigate these challenges is evident in the success of both Bay Electric and 4EverCharge. By leveraging his experience and expertise, Biagas has positioned his companies to thrive in competitive markets while staying true to their

core values. This combination of business acumen and unwavering determination has been key to his success.

A VISIONARY LEADER SHAPING THE FUTURE

John Biagas’ story is one of vision, perseverance, and impact. From his early days building Bay Electric into a

trusted industry leader to his current work revolutionizing EV charging through 4EverCharge, Biagas has consistently demonstrated a commitment to excellence and innovation. His efforts to uplift communities and promote sustainability reflect a deep understanding of the interconnectedness of business, society, and the environment.

As the world continues to embrace electric mobility, Biagas’ work with 4EverCharge stands as a beacon of what is possible when entrepreneurship meets a commitment to social and environmental responsibility. By empowering franchisees, expanding EV infrastructure, and championing green initiatives, Biagas is not only shaping the future of transportation but also creating a legacy that will inspire generations to come.

In a rapidly changing world, leaders like John Biagas remind us of the power of vision and hard work to drive meaningful change. Through his dedication to uplifting communities and revolutionizing industries, Biagas is paving the way for a brighter, more sustainable future.

Working in a high-pressure role for a Fortune 500 company, he had experienced the highs of success but also the burnout that came with long hours and constant deadlines. Larry knew he needed more control over his time,

a better work-life balance, and the opportunity to build something of his own. That’s when he decided to leave corporate America and become a franchise business owner.

Larry’s journey began with research. He spent months exploring various franchise opportunities and talking to current franchisees. He was drawn to the idea of owning a business with an

established brand, proven systems, and a support network. After careful consideration, he decided to invest in a Patrice & Associates franchise

Patrice & Associates is a recruitment and staffing firm that specializes in helping businesses find qualified candidates for management and executive positions, particularly in the hospitality, retail, and restaurant industries. They offer recruitment services to match organizations with top talent for various roles, focusing on leadership positions such as managers, district managers, and general managers.

The transition has not been without its challenges. In addition to the complexities of managing a business, and learning the intricacies of franchise operations, he has faced equally challenging barriers as an African-American business owner. Studies indicate that although African Americans make up about 12% of the US population, only 2% of businesses are black owned. Additionally, the

STUDIES INDICATE THAT ALTHOUGH AFRICAN AMERICANS MAKE UP ABOUT 12% OF THE US POPULATION, ONLY 2% OF BUSINESSES ARE BLACK OWNED. ADDITIONALLY, THE 2021 NATIONAL BLACK CHAMBER OF COMMERCE REPORTED THAT WHILE

THE NUMBER OF BLACK-OWNED BUSINESSES HAS GROWN OVER THE YEARS, ONLY 10% OF BLACK ENTREPRENEURS HAVE EMPLOYEES, COMPARED TO 30% OF WHITE ENTREPRENEURS.

2021 National Black Chamber of Commerce reported that while the number of Blackowned businesses has grown over the years, only 10% of Black entrepreneurs have employees, compared to 30% of white entrepreneurs. This reflects the disproportionate challenges Black business owners face in scaling their businesses.

However, Larry has embraced this challenge. He sought out another successful African American franchisee as a mentor, and found that the skills he had honed in his corporate career—such as leadership, project management, and financial management— were invaluable in his new role as a business owner.

Larry’s decision to leave corporate America ultimately paid off. He now enjoys the autonomy and flexibility of running his own business while still benefiting from the support and resources of a larger franchise network. What started as a leap into the unknown has turned into a fulfilling and profitable venture, allowing Larry to pursue his dreams on his own terms.

His story is a testament to overcoming obstacles, the power of reinvention, and the rewarding potential of franchise ownership for those ready to make a change.

Reflecting on Black History Month: Equality, Contributions and Opportunity

Black History Month is a time to honor and reflect on the contributions, struggles, and triumphs of Black Americans throughout history. It’s a month to learn about and appreciate their stories and contributions, understanding the progress we’ve made as a country, and that work still needs to be done.

Carter G. Woodson is credited as the man who created Black History Month. Originally started in 1926 and named Negro History Week, he wanted to create a celebration of Black American achievements and contributions; Understanding as a historian and scholar that these were often extremely underappreciated in America. He dedicated his life to spreading his knowledge on this. In 1950, Woodson

died, but his influence lived on. By 1976, almost most 50 years after Negro History Week was started, Woodsons organization, The Association for the Study of Negro Life and History, successfully got Negro History Week turned into Black History Month.

Black people have done a lot to help our country, as well as the rest of the world. An

example is Dr. Daniel Hale Williams Williams founded Provident Hospital in 1891.

Located in Chicago, this was the first non-segregated hospital in the country. At

his hospital, on July 10 1893, Dr. Daniel Hale Williams performed the first open heart surgery ever successfully, using no modern tools. This made his hospital one of the most innovative of the time. In addition to this, Dr. Williams founded the Provident Training School For Nurses, to counteract racism in the medical industry during this time. Both the hospital and school remain open to this day.

There’s also Lewis Howard Latimer Latimer originally received a patent on September 13, 1881, for a way of using carbon filaments for wires in an electric lamp. He received another patent on January 17 1882, for a method of producing carbon filaments. Both of these helped to make electric light practical and affordable. In 1890, Latimer went on to be the first person to write a book on electric lighting, Incandescent Electric Lighting.

There are many more examples that showcase black innovation in the United States. The dedication to overcoming racism, prejudice, and segregation is what makes these achievements so incredible. Black History Month helps highlight how America is a place where anybody, no matter your skin color, can and should be able to achieve their dreams. Entrepreneurship and Business are good examples of this.

Entrepreneurship isn’t just about making money, it’s about creating opportunities, and black entrepreneurs are some of the most resilient and creative. Having to face obstacles, such as racism and prejudice which can lead to it being difficult to find investors or getting loans; or just not having resources or being able to find chances for success, it can be difficult to start out.

It’s important to help solve the problem instead of adding on to it. Organizations such as the African American Franchise Organization help a lot. Dedicated to helping black entrepreneurs navigate the world of franchising by providing mentorship, education, and support. Franchising is a way that people can use their passion, drive, and creativity to find success.

Black History month lets us celebrate the contributions that Black Americans have given our country. It shows

how far we’ve come as a country, while also reminding us that even more progress is needed. Everybody is equal, with this month allowing Americans to reflect on the achievements of black Americans, and think about how we can continue to make America a place where ideas such as racism and prejudice don’t exist.

Taco Spot AZ: A Flavorful Tribute to the World’s Love

Affair with Mexican Food

Mexican food, with its bold flavors, colorful presentation, and rich history, is one of the most beloved cuisines in the world. Born from a fusion of ancient Mesoamerican traditions and Spanish influences, it represents the ultimate blending of cultures—corn, beans, and chili peppers meeting European spices, meats, and cooking techniques. Today, tacos, burritos, and salsas have transcended borders, making Mexican food a universal language of flavor.

In the heart of Arizona,

Taco Spot AZ celebrates this legacy, bringing together history, authenticity, and modern tastes. With multiple locations and a loyal following, it’s not just a place to eat—it’s a destination where fans of Mexican food come together to indulge in a culinary experience that pays homage to one of the most vibrant food cultures on the planet.

THE BIRTH OF MEXICAN CUISINE: A STORY OF BLENDED CULTURES

Mexican cuisine dates back thousands of years to the time of the Aztecs and Maya, where corn tortillas, tamales,

and chili-infused dishes were central to daily life. When the Spanish arrived in the 16th century, they introduced new ingredients—livestock, rice, wheat, and dairy—that fused seamlessly into existing culinary traditions. This blending of old and new gave rise to iconic dishes like tacos al pastor, which combined indigenous maize tortillas with Spanish-style marinated pork. Over centuries, Mexican food evolved into a dynamic cuisine that balances simplicity and complexity, tradition and innovation. Its flavors—earthy, smoky, spicy, and fresh— have universal appeal, which

explains why it has become a global favorite.

Nowhere is this love for Mexican food more alive than in the United States. From California to New York, Mexican restaurants draw crowds who crave tacos, enchiladas, and guacamole. And at Taco Spot AZ, the magic of Mexican food comes to life in every dish.

TACO SPOT AZ: ARIZONA’S CULINARY GEM

For Taco Spot AZ, Mexican food is more than a menu; it’s a celebration of tradition, community, and irresistible flavor. Whether it’s a classic carne asada taco, juicy al pastor with pineapple, or golden, perfectly crisp tortillas, every bite delivers a taste of Mexico’s heritage.

What sets Taco Spot AZ apart is their dedication to quality and freshness. Meats are marinated and grilled to perfection, toppings like cilantro and onions are simple but bursting with flavor, and house-made salsas range from tangy to fiery, allowing each guest to craft their perfect taco. It’s this balance of authenticity and attention to detail that keeps fans coming back for more.

And it’s not just about tacos. Taco Spot AZ’s menu offers mouthwatering burritos, nachos loaded with savory toppings, and street-style Mexican corn that transports you straight to the bustling markets of Mexico City.

A LOVE AFFAIR THAT KNOWS NO BORDERS

America’s love affair with Mexican food is undeniable. According to the National Restaurant Association, it’s one of the top cuisines nationwide, with tacos at the forefront of this cultural obsession. Why? Because Mexican food is comforting yet exciting, familiar yet exotic. It’s food that brings people together, whether it’s a family dinner, a late-night snack, or a weekend fiesta.

At Taco Spot AZ, this passion is palpable. Customers line up at their multiple Arizona locations, drawn by the promise of great food and the electric atmosphere. Fans take to social media to share drool-worthy photos of tacos piled high with tender meats, freshly squeezed lime, and vibrant salsas.

The secret to Taco Spot’s success isn’t just their incredible food—it’s the experience they offer. Walking through the door feels like being welcomed into a family kitchen. From friendly service

to the unmistakable aroma of grilled meats, every detail reflects a love for the craft and a desire to share it with the community.

A GLOBAL TRADITION, A LOCAL FAVORITE

Mexican food may have global roots, but Taco Spot AZ has made it their mission to bring those traditions home to Arizona. By blending rich history with fresh, modern appeal, they’re not just serving food—they’re honoring a culinary tradition that has stood the test of time.

For fans of Mexican food— and anyone looking for their next great foodie adventure— Taco Spot AZ is a must-visit. It’s proof that the world’s love affair with Mexican cuisine is alive and well, and with each delicious bite, it only gets stronger.

So, the next time you’re in Arizona, follow the line, grab a taco, and taste what all the buzz is about. Because at Taco Spot AZ, every bite tells a story of history, culture, and the universal love for Mexican food.

Ask the RESULTS Guy™: How to Have a Winning Mindset

If there’s one thing that separates high achievers from everyone else, it’s their mindset. Your mindset shapes how you see challenges, how you approach opportunities, and ultimately, how you perform. Success isn’t just about strategy and execution—it’s about the thoughts and beliefs you bring to the table every single day. That’s why I often say: mindset matters. Let me share why it’s critical, how to cultivate a winning mindset, and the steps you can take go Next Level by thinking differently.

Q: Tony, why is mindset so important for achieving results?

Your mindset is the foundation of everything you do. It’s the filter through which you see the world, and it drives how you respond to circumstances.

Think of it this way: you could have the best tools, resources, or strategies in the world, but if your mindset is off—if you’re filled with doubt, negativity, or limiting beliefs—you’ll selfsabotage.

On the other hand, a strong, positive mindset propels you forward. It allows you to see possibilities instead of problems, to persevere through setbacks, and to take consistent action toward your goals. I’ve seen it time and again with the leaders I coach—those who embrace a growth-oriented mindset achieve exponentially better results. Why? Because they believe they can, and that belief translates into action.

Q: How do you cultivate a winning mindset?

Cultivating a winning mindset starts with three key practices: focus, self-talk, and gratitude.

1. Focus on What You Can Control

Too many people waste energy worrying about things outside their control. A winning mindset focuses on what you can influence—your attitude, your effort, and your daily actions. When you channel your energy into what you can control, you’re far more productive and far less stressed.

2. Master Your Self-Talk

What you say to yourself matters more than you think—and there’s real science behind it (see Neurolinguistic Programming). Your internal dialogue shapes your confidence, your perspective, and your outcomes. Replace negative, self-defeating thoughts with positive, empowering ones. Instead of saying, “I can’t do this,” try, “I’ll find a way.”

3. Practice Gratitude Gratitude shifts your perspective. When you focus on what you

have instead of what you lack, you naturally adopt a more positive outlook. Take time each day to reflect on what you’re grateful for—it’s a simple habit that can dramatically improve your mindset.

Q: What role does mindset play in overcoming challenges?

Mindset is everything when it comes to challenges. The reality is, everyone faces obstacles—it’s how you respond to them that makes the difference. A fixed mindset sees challenges as insurmountable; a growth mindset sees them as opportunities to learn and grow. Think, “What can I learn from this, and how can I do better next time?” That shift in thinking is incredibly powerful. It allows you to stay resilient,

stay resourceful, and stay in the game long enough to succeed.

Q: Can you share some specific steps to strengthen your mindset daily?

Strengthening your mindset is a daily practice. Here are three steps you can implement right away:

1. Start Your Day with Intention

How you start your day sets the tone for everything that follows. Personally, I have my entire morning routine written out in 27 steps, each carefully designed to push my thinking and set a positive mindset for the day. Take a few minutes each morning to reflect on your goals, visualize success, and commit to a positive, productive mindset. This doesn’t have to be complicated—it can be as simple as journaling, meditating, or reviewing your top priorities for the day. In fact, even picking the right music for your morning shower could shift your entire day!

2. Surround Yourself with Positivity

The people and environments you surround yourself with have a big impact on your mindset. Seek out relationships and experiences that uplift you, challenge you, and

inspire you to grow. Be around the people who have already done the things you want to achieve. Limit exposure to negativity, whether it’s in the form of people, media, or distractions.

3. Celebrate Small Wins

Success is a series of small wins, not just big milestones. Take time to recognize and celebrate progress, no matter how small. Even crossing an item off your to-do list can give you a quick serotonin boost. This reinforces a sense of accomplishment and keeps you motivated to keep going.

A strong, positive mindset is non negotiable if you want to achieve extraordinary results. By focusing on what you can control, mastering your selftalk, and cultivating gratitude, you can build a mindset that empowers you to overcome challenges and seize opportunities. Remember, success starts from the inside out. Your mindset matters— make it your greatest asset.

Trio Brings Diverse Talents to Their Family Business Floor Coverings International of South Atlanta

Carly Harrington and Miguel Harris are life and business partners, and along with Carly’s Mom, Kathy Davis, they are living the dream of business ownership. They launched Floor Coverings International of South Atlanta last September and are going strong already.

They live within a mile of each other in historic Hapeville, Ga. “This is truly a family business,” said Kathy. Carly, meanwhile, offered an interesting perspective on working with both her mother

and her partner, Miguel. “It’s great to share my amazing mother with my other half since they can both see the best and worst in me,” she said with a laugh. Food for thought!

Carly, Miguel, and Kathy each bring an eclectic mix of business and personal experiences to their new venture, with each offering insights and perspectives that will mesh well in how they run their small business.

Carly earned an M.S. in cybersecurity from Georgia

Tech in December 2022 and currently works in the industry. Also holding an MBA from Oglethorpe University, she grew up working in her family’s tax and accounting business and has a deep passion for corporate social responsibility and giving back to the community. She supports the business with her project management and networking skills. Miguel, a native of Jamaica who emigrated to the United States in 1999, learned how to cook alongside his grandmother before going on to culinary school. The creator of awardwinning sauces, marinades, and rubs, he now creates chef-inspired meals for all occasions and has extensive experience hosting cooking demonstrations and opening new stores for Fortune 100 companies. He’s also wellversed in-home repair and remodeling as a partner with Carly in a rental real-estate business. A Missouri native, Kathy began her business career working in her family’s hardware store and continues to handle accounting,

bookkeeping and tax services for individuals and small businesses.

"Our team has really grown in past several months, said Carly. “We’ve added three new employees- two Design Associates and a production managerwho keeps track of all the installations, supplies, etc.”

The family is already rocking in the community doing “lots of custom stair runners, sanding and refinishing hardwood floors, replacing many old hardwood floors with LVP (luxury vinyl plank) floors.

“We are putting in lots of rubber home gym floors, which we have in so many colors,” said Carly. “We even installed artificial turf in one gym!”

Floor Coverings International is changing the game for those looking to upgrade their homes or offices with new flooring. With their innovative and award-winning customer service tools, attending Design Associates, and unique mobile showroom experience, customers can now view more than 3,000 flooring options.

“As an immigrant, I’m used to the challenges and hard work that come with different jobs, so connecting with people to educate and serve them is very easy for me,” Miguel said.

“We were impressed with the rapid scalability of the franchise. But what really sealed the deal were the phenomenal independent customer service reviews of Floor Coverings International,” Carly said. “The scores are unheard of in any industry, and we were really inspired to bring an amazing experience to our customers. Plus, our home renovation experience serves us well in educating our customers about their options to achieve home nirvana.”

Floor Coverings International has already revolutionized the market as it consistently ranks as the No.1 Mobile Flooring Franchise in North America by Entrepreneur Magazine. According to Hardware Retailing, home improvement sales are at $625 billion worldwide in 2025. The flooring industry is undergoing significant changes and innovations as consumers demand more quality, variety, and sustainability in their flooring choices. According to a recent report by Expert Market Research, the United States flooring market is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 6.50 percent through 2028, driven by the increasing population, rapid urbanization, and growing investments in renovations and remodeling of infrastructures.

“We are excited about the many manufacturers proudly displaying ‘Made in the USA’ with their products and the amazing amount of technology that goes into making all types of flooring more durable, beautiful, and comfortable for customers,” Carly said. “This is not your grandmother’s linoleum.”

3NATIVES ACAI & JUICERY: Fresh, Healthy, and Community-Focused

In 2013, 3Natives Acai & Juicery was born from a simple yet powerful realization: people needed better options for fresh, healthy food that could keep up with their fast-paced, active lives. Founder and CEO Anthony Bambino recognized a gap in the market for food and beverages that were both nutritious and convenient — a concept that wasn’t widely available at the time. Since then, 3Natives has built its reputation on highquality, made-to-order food and beverages crafted from the freshest ingredients. With an unwavering commitment to all things raw, natural, and fresh, and a diverse menu that extends beyond açaí bowls and smoothies to include

more substantial options like wraps and salads, 3Natives has become the go-to choice for health-conscious consumers, standing out in a competitive market.

Staying true to its mission, 3Natives Acai & Juicery continues to deliver fast, fresh, healthy food and beverages that fuel balanced lifestyles — a purpose rooted in passion, sustained by values, and proven by success.

REDEFINING “FAST” FOOD

In a world where fast food often means compromising nutrition, 3Natives is raising the bar with its innovative approach to food, service, and operations. At its core,

the brand is dedicated to using premium ingredients, and unlike many fast-casual restaurants, every item is made to order, maximizing flavor and nutrition and ensuring customers always enjoy the highest quality. Plus, with fast and efficient service, 3Natives aligns with today’s busy lifestyles, delivering convenience without compromising on quality. Beyond exceptional food, 3Natives prioritizes outstanding customer experiences. Each location offers a warm, inviting atmosphere, where a dedicated team provides friendly, personalized service. This commitment to fostering genuine community

connections cultivates a loyal and ever-expanding customer base.

For franchisees, 3Natives Acai & Juicery presents an unparalleled business opportunity. With simplified operations — no need for a range or hood — franchisees enjoy streamlined processes and reduced labor needs. The compact footprint eases site selection and minimizes overhead costs, while the efficient menu maximizes customer satisfaction without operational complexity. These advantages, coupled with a strong sales-to-investment ratio, make 3Natives an appealing and proven investment.

A RECORD-BREAKING YEAR

From its Florida roots, 3Natives Acai & Juicery quickly grew into a beloved health-focused restaurant, recognized for its fast, friendly service and consistently fresh, highquality offerings — and it’s just getting started!

2024 was a landmark year for 3Natives, achieving an impressive 60% growth and highlighting the growing demand for fresh, healthy, and convenient food and beverage options. With over 40 locations

across five states — Georgia, New York, Oklahoma, and Arizona, in addition to its strong Florida presence — 3Natives is introducing its healthy, on-the-go menu to new communities and solidifying its reputation as the destination for fresh, nutritious food and beverages across the U.S.

Beyond physical expansion, 3Natives has embraced digital innovation to enhance customer experience.

Launching a new mobile app and loyalty program has made it easier than ever for fans to engage with the brand, enjoy seamless ordering, and earn rewards. Strategic investments in franchise support, marketing, and franchise development have further strengthened the company’s infrastructure, ensuring it’s well-prepared for sustained growth and longterm success.

VISION FOR THE FUTURE

As 3Natives Acai & Juicery grows, its dedication to fueling balanced lifestyles through fresh, healthy food remains unwavering. Plans for continued expansion aim to bring its fresh, fast, and nutritious offerings to even more communities across the US, amplifying its impact nationwide.

Innovation also plays a key role in the brand’s future, from introducing menu items aligned with emerging health trends to leveraging cuttingedge technology for enhanced customer convenience. This forward-thinking approach ensures that 3Natives will

remain a relevant and appealing leader in an everchanging market.

The future is equally bright for 3Natives franchisees. With ongoing investments in support systems and resources, 3Natives Acai & Juicery offers a proven system that empowers franchisees to succeed.

Simplified operations, a strong financial model, and a focus on exceptional customer experiences create a winning formula that benefits both the franchisee and the community they serve. By staying true to its values and listening to the needs of its customers, the brand is poised to continue its upward trajectory. With a focus on innovation, community connection, and operational excellence, 3Natives will continue to uphold the quality and integrity that have become its hallmark, while expanding into new markets.

HEALTHY EATING MADE EASY & ENJOYABLE

At its heart, 3Natives Acai & Juicery is more than just a fast-casual restaurant; it inspires healthier living in its communities. By providing fresh, healthy, and fast food and beverages, 3Natives consistently exceeds the expectations of today’s healthconscious consumers.

Whether it’s a refreshing smoothie to kickstart the day, a hot & pressed wrap to fuel an afternoon workout, or an açaí bowl to savor as a guilt-free treat, 3Natives Acai & Juicery makes healthy eating not just easy — but enjoyable.

Take Flight With A New Franchise

Atrue industry disruptor, RealClean Aircraft is a first-to-market, aviation-exclusive franchise opportunity that specializes in the cleaning and detailing of general and commercial airplanes. RealClean is the brainchild of founder Dustin Zeitler, a commercial pilot who concepted the business 20 years ago. Now joined by co-owner Luke Goucher, the duo made the decision to franchise the concept in 2023 and plans to take their expansion plans to the next level of success by partnering with Franchise FastLane.

Dustin Zeitler, the founder and co-owner of RealClean Aircraft, is bullish on the brand’s growth potential now that they’re working with the industry’s No. 1 franchise sales organization.

“After spending a considerable amount of time devising a firstrate territory mapping system across the country, we’re highly confident we can award up to 10 or 15 units in our first year together - and provide our new franchisees with everything in the way of training and support necessary to succeed. We were also fully impressed with the level of influential relationships FastLane has with the franchise industry’s top consultancies and brokerages. To borrow a commonly used phrase, we believe the sky is the limit.”

We are thoroughly impressed with the vision and go-to-market strategy that Dustin, Lucas, and the Franchise Altitude team have developed for RealClean Aircraft. Their all-mobile B2B and B2C business model, combined with a strong reputation for toptier customer service, is perfectly positioned to attract entrepreneurial candidates in an industry that values exceptional relationships and trust. This concept stands out in an incredibly niche market with no national competitors, which opens exciting opportunities for candidates. We’re thrilled to partner with a team bringing such an innovative solution to a unique and underserved industry.”

Co-owner Luke Goucher is equally optimistic about the brand’s potential, based on the values RealClean Aircraft holds dear. “Aviation is an industry that prides itself on the value of establishing and maintaining personal relationships – taking care of the customers and reminding them how special they are. At RealClean Aircraft, we know we’re the best at what we do because we’ve worked extremely hard to get it right. That’s why we believe this is the right time and right place to expand the brand into new markets across the U.S.”
