PERFECT PLANNING
When planning a get together, I like to sit down and map out how I want the evening to go, what I want it to look like, the atmosphere I want to create. I basically make a mini vision board full of recipe ideas, DIY’s, games, decor, etc. Basically, my first step is to have a creative brain dump. I find getting it all out and in front of me helps me to really hone in on my vision.Once I've got a plan in place, my next step is to write my lists. There are usually a few lists. I have a cleaning/ organizing list to get the house in order before guests arrive. I have a “day of ” checklist to help keep things on track. I have a grocery list for ingredients needed for the meal and a shopping list for any missing decor items. Of course, there's also the art supplies list for whatever DIY I have planned.
STYLING TIPs
We like to build our centerpieces with a base of greenery. It brings a freshness and a bit of life to your table setting. For our summer setting we decided to also mix in fresh cut grapefruit, oranges and some whole lemons for a bit of color.
STYLING TIPsWhen it comes to styling your table, don’t be afraid to use what you have around the house. For example, instead of purchasing a new table cloth for our dinner party, we decided to use a round throw beach blanket as our base. We also think it’s fun and budget friendly to mix and match our flatwear and dishes.
PRETTY PAPER FLOWERS
DO I T YOUR SEL F
STEP ONE Fold all of your coffee filters in half twice and cut the tops into a heart shape.
STEP TWO Twist one end of your wire into a ball to create a base for your petals. Feed the other end of the wire through the center of three of your cut coffee filters. (We will be working in layers.)
STEP THREE Twirl the coffee filters clockwise until tight and tape the wrapped bottom to your wire.
STEP FOUR Repeat Steps Two and Three three times for a larger flower.
STEP FIVE Spread and fluff out all of the layers that you’ve created until you have a full bloom.
ROCK CACTUS PLANTER
A FUN, KITCHY AND BUDGET FRIENDLY WAY TO ADD SOME GREENERY TO YOUR SPACE
Supplies: Plant Pot, Rocks, Pebbles, Green, White and Black Paint// DIRECTIONS //
Step One - Paint your rocks in a variety of green shades. (Tip: If you only have one shade of green, you can mix in either white or black to lighten and darken that green.)
Step Two - Set your rocks aside and allow them to dry. While you wait you can prep your pot by filling the base with some of the large and small rocks.
Step Three - Draw on your cacti designs. You don’t have to be super precise. I did a variation of dots, lines and v’s and stars on mine.
Step Four - Place your rocks in the pot. Move them around until you like how they look and then set them in place with the smaller rocks.
