This year, London Design Festival (LDF) celebrates its 20th anniversary, returning to the capital from 17-25 September 2022 with an inspiring and thought-provoking programme of events, exhibitions and installations. Since its inception in 2003, LDF’s vision has been to celebrate and promote London as the world’s design capital. The Festival has played a critical role in the growth of the design industry, bolstering London’s position as a global destination for business, culture and tourism and serving as a blueprint for many design weeks and festivals globally. Design is now understood to be fundamental to enterprise, supporting health and wellbeing, and managing our cities and societies. At a time when climate change, pollution and resource depletion intensifies, there is also a need to drive toward a circular and more sustainable economy. With that in mind, this year’s Festival will seek to platform new thinking and creative concepts that demonstrate the crucial role of design today.

AN EXCITING NEW FIXTURE ON THE LONDON DESIGN CALENDAR

Among other things, Material Matters investigates how the design industry can address issues around the circular economy: asking how it can lead the drive to Net Zero, and why material intelligence is so important to all our lives?

Based on the critically acclaimed podcast of the same name, the Material Matters fair brings together over 40 world-leading brands, designers, makers and organisations to celebrate the importance of materials and their ability to shape our lives. Taking place at the iconic Bargehouse at Oxo Tower Wharf on London’s Southbank, the fair features five floors of exhibitions, installations, a marketplace, learning space and an extensive talks programme, providing a new platform for engagement, collaboration and inspiration for the design and architecture industries.

As Official Furniture Partner for the fair, TFP is excited to be involved in the creation of the Material Matters Talks space, where we explore materiality and sustainability performance in collaboration with a curated selection of leading furniture manufacturers, including Fredericia, Carl Hansen, Senator, Menu, Modus and more.
