It’s that special time of year again, when the love is in the air and your wallets get swept right off their feet. Like it or not Valentine’s Day is arguably the worst time of year to be remiss in your gift giving, but there’s no reason you can’t put a smile on that special someone’s face without pawning the title to your car. Here are some fresh ideas and websites for gifts that the person in your life will cherish this year.
Bored Teenager
Boredteenager.com is the perfect place to shop for your artsy or spirited otherhalf. Created by actor Blake Anderson, of Workoholics fame, the clothing line is sure to have something far out and unique that you just won’t find anywhere else. If your girlfriend or boyfriend is the type of person who’d rather watch Adult Swim than CNN this is the place for you. The prices aren’t unreasonable either with trinkets and clothes ranging from $8-$55 there is something that is bound to catch your eye.
Etsy/Pinterest
These sites are huge right now. Whether the apple of your eye is in a sorority or in the school band there is something for every demographic on this site. When in doubt, most
girls like pins. You can find a variety of pins from their favorite TV show or book for them to stick on their makeup bag or purse. The prices vary wildly because they sell more expensive items like nice jewelry and clothing, but they also sell cute little doodads that aren’t going to set you back very much. Mallory Charlton, a junior accounting major at Georgia Southern, swears by the sites.
Wish
If you’ve hardly got two nickels to rub together, wish.com may be the site for you. The site is a collection of wholesale items from different vendors so your experience with the site may vary depending on who you buy from. They’ve got a wide selection of everything from dirt cheap costumestyle jewelry and dresses to watches and men’s clothes. The only downside is that it normally takes a while to get the products shipped, but a surprise gift for any occasion never hurt anybody. Kelly Tarkington, a recent Georgia Southern graduate, said Wish is great for picking out a wide selection of $1-$10 items that will show up on a rainy day. It may not be consistent, but the cheap prices make this site a college student’s dream gift catalogue.

I was a bit late, but I finally stumbled upon spoiled brat Danielle Bregoli spewing her infamous phrase. I noticed a few new grey hairs found their home upon my head, as I lost the last bit of hope that I have for our culture. You see, I pity Danielle, and I can’t help but wonder, why exactly are we laughing at her? Is Danielle not a product of our grandiose and eclectic culture- the very same culture that has graced us with the likes of the Kardashians, the show “16 and Pregnant” and Trap music, which is undoubtedly the

best evidence to show how much our musical tastes have regressed? Add all of that together along with an absent father and a society that exalts morons, you get Danielle Bregoli. I also know there’s many boys and girls just like Danielle. They just haven’t been given the spotlight to shine yet. If I had to pick a single factor that I think is giving us the “Danielles,” it would be divorce. According to divorce. usu.edu, roughly half of American marriages now end in divorce. A single glance at our regressive culture shows that the divorce should only be going up from here. Movies coming out in 2017 could pass for pornography of days past, where infidelity is celebrated, communication is nonexistent and all you need is sex- lots and lots of sex. Because of this, monogamous relationships are now thought to be
boring and old fashioned. Divorce in itself is not always terrible for the husband and wife, especially if the relationship is unhealthy and vulgar. However, divorce with a child in the mix has profound effects on the child’s emotional maturity, self-worth, and even his/her choice of romantic partners. Often times during a divorce, both parents will try to win the child’s love through material things. The parents will “compete” by showering the child with gifts. I see that in her case, Danielle is shown with cigarettes, a smart phone and those horrid plastic nails. I fear that this materialism has gotten to her head, thus leading to her to act out like she has. I fear all the other kids that watch her popularity continually grow, will want to reciprocate Danielle’s behavior in hopes of getting the same attention as her. Stop making stupid people famous.

Game of Thrones language creator David Peterson’s visit to GS

Peterson gives his presentation on Valyrian. Peterson created languages for Doctor Strange, Warcraft and Thor: The Dark World.
GS kicks off nationwide recycling event
“Skoriot ñuhyz zaldrīzesse ilzi.” In High Valyrian, that means, “Where are my dragons?” High Valyrian is a language that linguist David Peterson created specifically for the show, Game of Thrones. However, this is not the only show or film that he has created a language for. Peterson has created languages for shows like The 100, Star-Crossed, Emerald City and Defiance. He has even created languages for movies, such as Doctor Strange, Warcraft and Thor: The Dark World. His career, though, launched when he had to compete with other fellow linguists to be able to write the language for Game of Thrones. “I participated in a competition to get the job for Game of Thrones with other language creators. It was a badly designed competition, because it was going to go to the person with the most free time and most desperate, and that was me. So, it was bad. It was basically do the job and HBO will decide who was going to get paid for it,” Peterson said. When he started working for the HBO show, Game of Thrones, he had one goal in mind when he finished forming the new language. “So when I’m called in to create a language for a television show, what I try to do is I try to create a naturalistic

The Center for Sustainability kicked off a two month long recycling competition called Recyclemania Feb. 5, and it will run until April 5. Recyclemania is a nationwide recycling competition aimed at raising awareness for recycling, while also encouraging people to reduce waste and improve recycling efforts. Not only is GS competing against against other colleges, but individual residence halls are competing against each other as well. D u r i n g Recyclemania, the Center for Sustainability will keep track of which residence halls are recycling the most. At the end of the event, to apply. the residence hall that has recycled the most waste will earn a wings and pizza party as well as a Recyclemania trophy that they get to keep until next year's Recyclemania. GS’s ultimate goal for this year’s Recyclemania is to beat the numbers from last year. Last year GS recycled a total of 83,620 pounds of waste, about 3.8 pounds per person, placing them 230th in the competition.

language, a language that is more like one of the ones that we find here on earth,” Peterson said. According to Peterson, when he has to create a new language for a TV show or a film, it takes him about six months to a year, but in Hollywood, that is not always the case. To create a language a linguist must look at different aspects in order to create it. “For a created language to be successful, the grammar, the sound of the language, the culture and history of the speakers must all work together and must be considered in the creation process,” Heidi Altman, associate professor of anthropology, said. When Peterson finishes forming the sound system and the grammar, and how the language has evolved over time through culture and its history, a language is formed. From there, he starts to transcribe parts of the script for a movie or TV show into the language he has created. When he transcribes the language, he also provides an MP3 for the actors so that they know how to properly pronounce the words that Peterson wrote. Brady Gwynn, sophomore English and French major, said, “It was fascinating that he drew from existing phonetics to create a brand new, genuine, vibrant language."
This year, the Center for Sustainability is hoping to donate about seven pounds per person, placing them in competition with the University of Georgia. There are multiple events going on during the competition for GS students to get involved with. First, simply taking the time to consider if something is recyclable before throwing it out is an easy and quick way to participate. Recyclable products include aluminum cans, plastic #1 and #2, paper and corrugated cardboard. The Center for Sustainability will also be trying to catch people green handed during the event. A team of students and staff will be going around campus and if they see anyone recycling or participating in any other sustainable activities. Any student caught green handed will be entered into a drawing to win a Bluetooth speaker and headphones from Tech Corner. Any student who is interested in joining the "greenhanded" team can contact the Center for Sustainability at cfs@ georgiasouthern.edu to participate. There will also be a recycled boat regatta in which students can team up to make paper boats out of at least 50 percent recycled materials and try to race them on Lake Ruby. The event will be on March 9 at 4 p.m. It is free to participate, but all teams must sign up by March 5 on the Center for Sustainability website. Lissa Leege, founder and director of the Center for Sustainability, encourages all students to participate in Recyclemania. “Most students are engaged in higher education to better their future. A better future includes cleaner air and water, more efficient energy use, less waste, and a healthier environment,” Leege said. “Making an effort to keep valuable materials out of the landfill by recycling is an important step towards that goal. And beyond all that, wouldn’t you like to bring home a win for the Eagle Nation?”

Student Government presidents address concerns about fees consolidation process BY JOZSEF PAPP
The George-Anne staff
The Georgia Board of Regents announced the recommendation for consolidation between Georgia Southern (GS) and Armstrong State University (ASU) on Jan. 11, 2017. According to a press release, the consolidation process is expected to take 18 months with the end result being a consolidated institution with the Georgia Southern name. At the moment, a lot of questions about fees have been left unanswered because the administrations from both schools simply don’t know. The first consolidation committee meeting took place on Feb. 1 at the University System of Georgia offices in Atlanta.
ASU Administration Chris Corrigan, vicepresident of business and finance at ASU, feels the meeting will be a step towards being able to answer questions. Although not a lot of work has been done, Corrigan expects that to change after the meeting. “I expect after [the meeting], we would form a number
of working groups, maybe as many as 70 or 80. One of them would certainly be addressing fees and tuition,” Corrigan said. Currently, according to the Armstrong State University website, undergraduate students are paying $737. On the other hand, according to the Georgia Southern University website, students are paying $1,046, which is $309 more than ASU students.
ASU Student Government Dustin Stewart, Student Government Association (SGA) president at ASU, doesn’t expect fees to change much during the transition, but only time will tell. Since the process began, the goal has been to raise student concerns from both institutions. Stewart feels the concern many students and people in the community have is whether the history and all the progress made by ASU would be preserved in one way or another.

conversations regarding the merger and he expects the dialogue to continue until their term in office ends. “As far as I’m concerned, as soon as that announcement was made, although on book we are not one consolidated institution, throughout the process we need to be consolidated partners,” John said. John asks students to be patient throughout the process and to talk to SGA or the university administration regarding concerns they might have. Both SGA presidents want their student concerns being heard with the first consolidation meeting expected to be the first step in doing so. At the same time, Corrigan feels the same way about student issues. Corrigan wants students to be involved in the process as much as possible to make sure the end result is a better institution for all the students. The first order of business for the committee is to draft a mission statement and create a plan of action for athletics, according to a press release released on Feb. 1.

For anyone who is looking to add some excitement into their lives, Sunset Novelties, an adult entertainment store located in Statesboro, may be just what they need. The store offers products ranging from lingerie, toys, lubricants and jellies, to offering humorous party supplies and smoking accessories. There are a total of nine Sunset novelties locations with five being in Georgia and the other four being found in Florida. Sunset also has their own line of lubricant, toy cleaner and lingerie.
New Products Are In Just in time for Valentine's Day, Sunset Novelties has unveiled their new line of vibrators. There are two different styles available and they have been on the shelf for less than a month The first style is called the Perfect Storm and it a small rechargeable bullet shaped device. It has seven different functions and occurs a rumble vibration as opposed to the topical buzzing sensations that most offer. The second style is called the Perfect Spot and is a long tube with a ball shape on the end and runs off of two AA batteries. It features an easy on and off button as well as ten different functions. Both devices are fully submersible in water and come with a five year warranty, while most other toys sold in the shop only have a one year warranty. They feature a high quality rumble that isn’t offered in most available toys. The high quality rumble sensation allows you to not get desensitized and to achieve more orgasms and the texture of the device allows for a better grip while using it. The reason the rumble sensations allows for a better experience is because it offers a deeper vibration as opposed to the topical buzzing sensation of most bullet devices.

The Right Venue for The Holiday of Love Sunset sees a spike in business around Valentine’s Day and always tries to plan accordingly. “We actually refer to it as our Christmas,” Kerstin McLemore, store manager, said. McLemore also said that communication is a huge part of relationships and that also applies to communicating about what you want to try sexually. “A lot of people think it’s a replacement, but it’s an additive,” McLemore said. They have a few deals going on for Valentine’s Day including a sale on some of their merchandise such as a sports bra and a few different gift baskets. The gift baskets vary but bundle up the item so it can be offered at a lower price. While their clientele comes from all age ranges, McLemore said if she had guess, the ration would be about 60 percent college students and 40 percent locals and passerbys. Whether someone is experienced or not the staff at Sunset will greet everyone and try to accommodate them.
Knowing The Trade All of the staff are very knowledgeable about all of their products and the first few weeks on the job are full of constant tests and surprise quizzes about the products. McLemore has been with the company for seven years and says she likes to spend the first few days walking around the store with new associates no less than six times a day. Being knowledgeable about the products helps to make sure that the customers get exactly what they are looking for and feel more comfortable with the products they get. The staff at Sunset knows that not everyone is experienced and that some may feel a little awkward coming into the store. They strive to be confident and knowledgeable about their products so that they can help their customers feel more confident as well. So whether you are experienced or not, Sunset Novelties may just be the place for you to try.

PURE ROMANCE
Bringing Adult Novelty in the Form of a Party A display of lotions and lubricants. Pure Romance parties promote adult novelties in all spectrums of the trade. BY ALLISON MARTINEZ The George-Anne contributor
Going to an adult novelty store for the first time can be fairly uncomfortable because you don't know what to expect. You're exposing yourself to things you've never seen or heard of before and a million questions gather in your mind like “What am I looking at and how is it supposed to be used?” The use of adult products isn't something brought up in everyday conversations and it has a tendency to be seen as a forbidden topic to speak of. One should be asking questions to become more informed about their bodies instead of giggling to friends about the mysterious toys seen on the second shelf. The knowledge most students have about adult novelty items is minimal.
Cheyenne Burns, consultant for Pure Romance, is trying to break that barrier. She is informing students on everything they need to know about different products in a casual and comforting environment.

The Party
As the festivities began, the air was filled with hesitation. No one knew what to expect or what was in store. About ten women were in attendance, most being first time attendees at an event of this sort. There were two tables set up: One with products such as lotions and gels and the other covered in plastic diamonds where there sat a bowl of acrylic heart shaped rings and a sign which read, “Each Queen deserves to have her own jewels. Please take a ring and be seated my Queen!” The hesitant vibes soon wore off as the host walked into the room to introduce herself. Her bubbly personality quickly put everyone's mind at ease. learning about their bodies and the body of their significant other. “Confidence is the most sexiest thing you can wear. In the bedroom, communication is the biggest thing missing, and knowing it's okay to be educated about your body helps you become more relaxed and more confident with yourself which makes for better communication in the relationship,” Burns said. College students aren't typically educated on adult products and talking about sex in public can tend to be awkward. By hosting these parties, Burns has created an environment that makes each woman feel like a queen while having a safe place to talk about sex and ask questions. “Every women is a queen in her own right and deserves to feel like one. We aren't going to do anything that won't make you feel like a queen at Pure Romance," Burns said. Overall, the event was an extremely educational and entertaining way to learn more about how to start living a more sexually fulfilled life and how to define your desires. Burns is able to educate people about their health and sex life and how products are used in a fun way while answering any questions. She used a raffle ticket system to encourage the women to ask questions where the more questions each person asked, the more raffle tickets they received, entering them to win prizes and sample products. This was a great incentive for each person and a clever way to have questions answered one may have never thought of.

Instead of letting your mind wander over how, what and when certain products are and can be used, get informed and attend a Pure Romance party. Burns will be hosting an open house event that welcomes both men and women within the next few weeks. The Georgia Southern men's tennis team won all three of their matches at home over the weekend, defeating Winthrop on Saturday and both UNCCharlotte and College of Coastal Georgia on Sunday. The team improved to 8-4 this season after the wins. Against Winthrop on Saturday, the Eagles edged out a tough challenge by a final of 4-3. All four of the Eagles' points came from single's matches, with freshman Santiago Suarez only losing one game over his two sets. Junior JC Alcala continued

his strong single's play with a convincing victory over his opponent: 6-2, 6-2. In the first match of the Sunday doubleheader, Georgia Southern defeated The UNC-Charlotte 49ers, 5-2. Suarez and junior Artemie Amari took their single's matches in straight sets, while Alcala came back from down a set to win his. In double's play, the Eagles were able to earn the best-of-three point on the strength of two tandems. The duo of senior Christian Kerrigan and freshman Diego Finkelstein prevailed, 6-3, over UNCC's top double's pair. The Eagles' two top single's players, Alcala and junior Eddie Landin helped clinch
the double's point as well by knocking off their opponents, 6-2. The final match of the weekend for the Eagles was actually modified so it could be shorter. The match against Coastal Georgia was set up so that once victory was clinched by either side, the ongoing matches at that point would come to an end. GS got the win, 4-0 to complete the weekend sweep. Eddie Landin won his single's match nearly flawlessly, with two consecutive 6-0 sets. Freshman Stefano Di Aloy and Amari also convincingly won their single's matches. The Eagles again won the double's point and finished their
shutout of College of Coastal Georgia. The Eagles will be back at home this coming Friday, facing both Gardner-Webb and Abraham Baldwin College. On Sunday, they will play Stetson before heading to Macon next Thursday to take on Mercer.

shut them out, 7-0 at home. Two of the single's matches ended in tiebreakers, with GS winning both. Senior Giulia Riepe and sophomore Paige Christian both outlasted their opponents in their first-to-10-point tiebreakers. Freshman Arianne De Winter and sophomore Emilia Bujan defeated their opponents in straight sets, and the Eagles took the double's point as well. On Saturday, Eagles will be in Atlanta to play Georgia Tech.

The Georgia Southern women's basketball team beat Coastal Carolina, 65-62 on Saturday in Conway, S.C. The men's team fell short against CCU, 86-70. Freshman guard Alexis Brown led the Eagles with 15 points in the victory, with fellow freshman guard Nakol Franks contributing 14 points in just 16 minutes of playing time. Ced Gibson scored 22 for Coastal Carolina, but it was not enough to stop the Eagles from earning their fourth win in five games. The women will take on the University of TexasArlington at home Thursday night. They will go on to face Texas State - also at Hanner - on Saturday at 2 p.m. for Senior Day.
Men's Team
For the men, sophomore guard Ike Smith came to play, scoring 25 points including 4-7 from threepoint range. However, the Chanticleers had more balanced contributions, with 16 points each from junior guard Jaylen Shaw and senior guard Colton Ray-St Cyr. Coastal Carolina was able to get the home win, splitting the regular season match-ups with GS after the Eagles won in Hanner earlier this season. The men's team faced Appalachian State on Monday night. The Eagles will face Texas State at home on Saturday afternoon, with the broadcast airing on WSAV.

Senior infielder Morgan Robinson prepares for the incoming pitch. The Eagles will travel to Louisiana this weekend to face LSU. BY MCCLAIN BAXLEY The George-Anne staff
The 2017 Georgia Southern softball season began this past weekend as the Eagles hosted the Eagle Round Robin which included Middle Tennessee State University, Tennessee, Tennessee Tech and UNCGreensboro.
Friday Games
The first team the Eagles played was UNCG on Friday afternoon. Both teams started off strong defensively, and the game was scoreless until the 5th inning when GS senior infielder Andrea McKenzie would pick up her first RBI of the season, bringing freshman infielder Shelby Wilson home with a double. In the sixth inning, junior infielder India Davis and sophomore outfielder Lydia Witkowski got on base easily before Emily Snider sent them to home plate with a beautiful grounder up the middle to make the game 3-0. Reigning Sun Belt freshman of the year, GS starting pitcher Dixie Raley, had an almost flawless start to her sophomore campaign, allowing just one hit and striking out four Spartans. The second game of the tournament for Georgia Southern was against the Blue Raiders of Middle Tennessee State. On a cold Friday night, there wasn’t much the Eagles could do to combat the strong swinging of the Blue Raiders.
The top of the third inning was rough for the Eagles as they allowed five runs to make it 7-0. The fourth inning had one of the highlights of the game as GS senior infielder Morgan Robinson hit a homerun on the first pitch thrown in the inning. The game ended with a score of 9-2 in favor of MTSU.
Sunday Games
The final game of the Round Robin for GS on Sunday was a rematch from Friday night against Middle Tennessee. The Blue Raiders went up 4-0 heading into the bottom
of the fourth inning. Almost identical to Robinson’s from Friday night, Snider hit her third home run of the season in the fourth to build some momentum. Unfortunately, that would be the only momentum of the game, as MTSU pitcher only allowed one hit and three
walks ending the day in 6 innings 11-1. Georgia Southern is now 2-3 in the season and will head to Baton Rouge, La. this weekend to compete in the Purple & Gold LSU Challenge. The Eagles begin this tournament against fourth-ranked LSU Friday night at 7 p.m.
Saturday Games
Saturday was a new day for the Eagles as one of their biggest tests of the season awaited them in the #15 Tennessee Volunteers. This game from Raley was almost completely opposite from the shutout she pitched Friday. In just over two innings, she allowed six runs (three earned) on five hits with a walk. Tennessee would score nine runs in the third inning alone and the Eagles could only produce one hit all game against pitching ace Matty Moss. The game ended after 5 innings 13-2. Definitely the most exciting game of the weekend came against the Golden Eagles of Tennessee Tech. Tech started the scoring with 3 runs in the first, but GS responded with two runs of its own from Witkowski and Snider. The game went back and forth all game, but after Tech took the lead in the sixth, Snider walked up to the plate and delivered her second tworun homer of the game. That would be enough and Georgia

Southern would win with a final score of 8-7.
