Hey you! (Yes you!) You’re the New Girl On The Block right? I knew it! I can spot a potentialist anywhere. Just a few years ago I was in your shoes. I was intimidated by success, anxious because I didn’t know how to achieve it and felt doubtful due to negative self-talk. But the day I turned my frustration into motivation is when life really started working for me instead of against me. Everything you do, everything you say, every choice you make, comes back around. So if you’re a big dreamer but you’re not taking immediate action to make things happen then it’s about time we had a heart to heart. On the pursuit towards turning goals into accomplishments, it’s not unusual to come across obstacles which may weaken your ability to see life beyond the limits of your circumstances. I know firsthand how scary it is to step up to the plate, close your eyes and take a huge leap of faith. But after years of trial and error, taking risks has become a part of my lifestyle. For instance, back in 2008 when I dropped out of college to pursue my dream career, or when I recently asked one of the most successful Canadian public speakers to become my mentor.

To be successful you need 2 things: courage and persistence I only have one rule: Think big ... No BIGGER! If you want a better quality of life, you must raise your standards. Period. Thinking big doesn’t necessarily mean that you dream of being the richest, most successful person in the world either. Thinking big is whatever you make it; success comes in all sizes. Solidifying a vision sure isn’t easy, but with guidance and coaching from me, a thought-leader who has survived the trenches, you can expect great results and full access to my skills, expertise, knowledge and talents. One of my clients landed her dream job at Nike after only 6 months of working with me one-on-one. “Pauleanna has not just been a great mentor and influence; she has been a great friend. She knows what she wants in life and she goes after it. She has a positive attitude that is truly contagious and I am so thankful that she has spread that into my life.” – Chantelle Both, Operations Administrative Specialist, Nike

That is outstanding! I want to bring you the same results. I hope you have your notepad and pen ready because this guide is a kick-start to a brand new you! Girl, we are just getting started. If you’re ready to become smooth, savvy and successful, I am ready to provide you with the tools and resources necessary to get you to a place where you can live in a world of “yes” –

because you deserve it.

Isn’t it amazing how the power of social media can introduce you to cool, smart and interesting people in an instant? I mean, c’mon, I bet you didn’t think that all of today’s events would eventually lead you here. But I’m not one to complain. I am so happy we’ve connected because we can help each other turn dreams into reality. Your success is my success and if you aren’t filled with purpose and passion, then you aren’t truly living. And, that’s not what the New Girl On The Block encompasses by my standard. The New Girl On The Block is fierce, has the ability to kick fear in the ass (in stilettos of course, 4 inches, no less) and dazzles in her industry.

But before we begin, let me ask you this: right now, this very moment, what do you want the most? This is one of the toughest questions you’ll probably answer in your life because most people do not know what they want out of their lives and careers. With so many options, how do you choose just one? How do you know what your purpose is? And once you discover your purpose, how do you thrive in it? The good news is that there are solutions to these problems but I need your 100% commitment. In this guide, not only will you learn to be smooth, savvy and successful, but you will learn how to create winning strategies for your life and career. My philosophy is that freedom lies in being bold. You have to step into the spotlight if you want to be highly recognized and command attention from your boss, employees or consumers. But in order to become bold in your industry, you have to start within yourself first. Here are 8 ways to help you feel on top of the world. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8.

STAY FOCUSED ON YOU IDENTIFY YOUR STRENGTHS AND CAPITALIZE ON THEM IDENTIFY YOUR WEAKNESSES AND WORK ON THEM BELIEVE IN YOURSELF CLOSELY MONITOR YOUR SUCCESS SEEK ENCOURAGEMENT FROM OTHERS CHALLENGE YOURSELF BE A ROLE MODEL WITH A POSITIVE ATTITUDE

This simple guide provided by Forbes, one of my favorite business magazines, is a great pick-me-up when you feel like you’re losing the fight and you just want to throw in the towel. When you reach this point, remember that mental strength will be your strongest ally. I practice visualization techniques very often. I’ve always been a big dreamer. When I was a little girl, my dreams were all I had. There was no one in my corner who shared the same vision and so it was important to me that I held onto faith. Your thoughts are powerful; extremely powerful and when you know your worth, you understand what you deserve out of life which leads me back to my one and only rule:

think BIG.

Michael Hyatt, author of the New York Times Best Selling book called

“Thinking big is not a gift but a skill – one that anyone can develop.” PLATFORM: Get Noticed In A Noisy World, said it best.

I vividly recall friends, family and even teachers, shooting down my dreams whenever I would tell them that I wanted to become a professional writer and entrepreneur. I received so much criticism that it nearly broke me down into feeling worthless. (btw words hurt! Ouch.) It was extremely hard to see past the naysayers. They were hatin’ like nobody’s business. Like gotdamn! But you know what, I held onto faith, I wrote my dreams in a journal and manifested my vision into reality.

3 ways to help you think big... 1) Talk to yourself with respect Haters are gon’ hate, but you are still gon’ shine. Once you learn to become your own best friend, life gets easier. Remember, happiness starts within. So start by removing all negative words from your vocabulary like “I can’t”. Replace them with “I am”. For example, “I am capable of...” Breathe life and positivity into your dreams. 2) Write down your goals and determine a deadline When you live in a world of “yes”, you do not settle for less. The objective behind writing down your goals is to maintain focus and invest your energy in one direction so that you have a clear understanding of what it is you’d like to achieve. Everything you want lives on the other side of fear. Your dream career, your dream life, your dream income, everything! You have to take risks to reap rewards. Write down your goals and own them! 3) See the light You have to believe in the bigger picture and don’t expect anyone else to understand. Your dreams should be at the forefront of your mind. Eat, sleep and breathe them. This is an important characteristic which every successful individual possesses. You will never know all the answers, but you can focus on the next positive step. This is how you will transition your goals into daily actions.

YOUR CHALLENGE

is to spend some time examining where you are at in your life right now and where you want to be. Print this worksheet to help you get started. There is no time limit for this activity. It is simply to prompt you to write your thoughts on paper and hold yourself accountable. Take an inventory of your skills, talents and weaknesses: SKILLS

Paint your life in 5 years... _____________________________________________________________ _____________________________________________________________ _____________________________________________________________

Hustle, hustle, hustle ... Hard The most important question on that worksheet is number two.

What

does a 24-hour day in your life look like? Because that one answer alone will tell me everything I need to know. It will easily reveal why you are not where you want to be in your life and career. What you do within a 24-hour period is what will set you apart from the rest of the pack. The difference between living broke and living rich (by this I mean rich in love, life, career and spirit) is how you spend your 24! According to Laura Vanderkam, author of a forthcoming e-book called,

“Making smart use of the early morning is a practice most highly successful people share.” What Most Successful People Do Before Breakfast,

Creator of ‘Da Kink In My Hair and award-winning playwright, Trey Anthony recommends tackling 5 before 8. Never heard of this practice? Select 5 activities (they may vary from day to day) to complete from your to-do list every morning before 8:00 a.m. This may include: meditating, sending emails, making breakfast, working out, studying, reading a book, etc. You can pick whatever you want as long as you get the job done! I have acquired this habit. For years, I’ve been waking up anywhere between 4:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. I know what you’re thinking, WTH this lady is nuts. Nope, I am proactive. By the time you have yawned, stretched and rolled out of bed. I have already made my chess moves and cornered you in a checkmate position. Every time you stay out late; every time you sleep in; every time you miss a workout; every time you don’t give 100% - You make it that much easier for me to beat you. You have to work smart. Use your time wisely. It’s the only way for you to stay on top of your game. Every move you make has to be strategic. By tackling 5 tasks before 8:00 a.m. not only are you ahead of the game, but you will feel more organized and amped to tackle the rest of your day. I don’t know about you but I love the feeling of crossing off items from my to-do list. I get a rush just thinking about it. Owwww weeee!

Discover your passion. Become it. Let it become you.

If you do not have a passion or career choice, this is your big break! If you do have a passion or career choice, please proceed to the section: What drives you? OK! Let’s talk about how to discover your passion. To be honest, the answer is quite simple. Kate White, Career Expert and New York Times Best Selling Author

“... get your butt off your chair, fill your life with a wide array of unusual experiences, and allow yourself to bump into what will exhilarate you.” There are so many personality activities and color suggests that you,

wheels which claim to have the answer but to be honest, some of my most brilliant ideas have occurred when I least expected it and they were inspired by all kinds of people, places and things which is why it’s important to live a flavourful life. Kate White’s suggestions include: having lunch with an old friend you haven’t seen in years, wandering down streets you’ve never been before, take one-night classes in surprising subjects, stop at bookstores, visit people at their jobs, volunteer or freelance.

These are all great ways to test the waters. You must expose yourself to a whirlwind of different environments and allow yourself to bump into what you are interested in or are passionate about.

What drives you? Alright woman, I need you to dig deep. What is your why?! Why do you want to be the New Girl On The Block? Why do you want to dazzle in your industry and make a name for yourself? Why do you want to be a better version of yourself? What drives you? All of my successful friends have a purpose and a plan. We all share a common thread which leads to a place of struggle. Either we have experienced poverty, homelessness, fear, mental illness or other obstacles. Most successful people have been to a dark place which has scared the living daylights out of them so badly that they never want to experience it again. Trust me, I know from my past experiences with bullying, mental illness, financial struggle. It was enough to push me into the direction of my dreams and fight for what I love. Now I wake up every day bursting with love and happiness because I am driven and I am striving towards achieving a personal level of excellence. The most exciting part about my career is the simple fact that I am constantly challenged. Whether physically or mentally, I’m pretty much completely exhausted at the end of each day (but for good reason). I don’t know about you, but I often find myself in a place where I have no choice but to operate solely on passion. Some of my fellow big dreamers know what I’m talking about. There are times when we feel as if we have no energy to carry on but, somehow deep within, we find the strength to do so anyways because achieving our goals means much more than anything else in this world.

If you pay close attention, you’ll discover that within those tiny moments of clarity is where all the magic happens …

What separates the women from the girls? You have to become disciplined if you plan on making your mark in this world of business. This shit isn’t a joke, please believe me. Life can get so crazy sometimes and it’s very easy to get distracted especially with social media and other outside influences. So I need you to stay in your lane.

“If a person advances confidently in the direction of his dreams and lives life fully, then he will find success in unexpected hours.” -H.D. Thoreau

I need you to learn how to say no or better yet, HELL NO to people who belittle your ambitions, drain you mentally and emotionally with their selfish requests or ask you to come out to shop, party, dine out or just meet for drinks. I need you to be driven. I need you to get some eye of the tiger. You’ve done enough chillin’ and you know how I know? Because you wouldn’t have read this far in the handbook if you had all the answers and had been practicing discipline already. Now it’s time to get serious. Remember, how you spend your time determines your level of success so if you need to say no to people, put on your big girl panties and do it. Say it with me, “NO!” Doesn’t that feel incredible? Do it again, “NO!” Nice, it looks good on you. Don’t allow people who are not on track to get you sidetracked.

Goal Setting So you’ve found your passion, you understand what drives you and you are committed to being disciplined, the next thing I need you to do is create a set of goals. This is crucial because without a set of long and short-term goals, you will drift through your life and career blindly. Let’s divide your goals into 3 categories. List both your short and long term goals: Career _____________________________________________________________ _____________________________________________________________ _____________________________________________________________ _____________________________________________________________ _____________________________________________________________ _____________________________________________________________ Life _____________________________________________________________ _____________________________________________________________ _____________________________________________________________ _____________________________________________________________ _____________________________________________________________ _____________________________________________________________ Relationship _____________________________________________________________ _____________________________________________________________ _____________________________________________________________ _____________________________________________________________ _____________________________________________________________ _____________________________________________________________

Plan of action You can write a thousand lists and make a million vision boards, but if you don’t clearly feel what you want to experience, it will never manifest into form. Here are 9 calls of action I want you to put in place today. 1. Form a mastermind group A mastermind group consists of like-minded individuals. People who are dreamers, believers, do-ers and thinkers. This is a great way to keep each other motivated and share resources. It is wise to collaborate with your ‘competitors’ because you don’t know who is in their network and how they can help you step closer to your goal. There’s also a cool site called www.meetup.com it’s an amazing outlet to find meet up groups in your city. 2. Connect with a mentor LADIES, IT’S TIME TO GET A MENTOR. But not just because I say you should, you should do it because a mentor can add value to your life and open windows of opportunities for you. I would not be where I am today if I didn’t pick the brains and follow in the footsteps of those who have survived the trenches first. Refer to my blog to read my tips about how to connect with a life-changing mentor. 3. Make short-term sacrifices to reap long-term success If you want success badly enough, you need to maintain laser focus. I mean extreme focus. It’s not enough to drag your heels, I need you to de-clutter your life from all things that are holding you back from achieving your goals. Take some time to think about what they could be. It will differ for everyone.

4. Dress to kill People will judge you by your appearance. It’s a fact. Remember, first impressions are everything, so take time to neatly put yourself together every day. Sloppy isn’t cute. You don’t know who is watching and what power they hold. So it is wise to invest in some classic staples which include: bold jewelry, a killer handbag, fabulouslooking shoes, and interchangeable pieces (jackets, blazers, pants, skirts, dresses, blouses). Develop a signature look and dress for the career you want, not the one you have. Watch out now! The New Girl On The Block has entered the building. 5. Be phenomenal or be forgotten This is my favorite quote from Eric Thomas, “The Hip Hop Preacher”. I need you to start putting 100% into everything you do. If you are a dishwasher at Burger King, be the brand. Be the best dishwasher that company has ever seen. If you are a customer sales rep, kill your callers with kindness. You may not even enjoy your job right now, but who cares. Keep in mind that it’s temporary so in the mean time when you go to work, put in work! Excel in everything you do, not just the things you like to do. This discipline will transform in all areas of your life. You’ll remain visible, get noticed and build a reputation of consistent excellence and we all know that your reputation can take you very far. 6. Explore new territory You have to open yourself up to new people, places and things. It makes my skin crawl when people say that they’re bored. Like really? How the heck can you be bored when we live in such an amazing country with so much to offer? I want you to start by doing one thing a day that scares you and at least one thing a day that you love. Build a catalogue of amazing experiences and keep track of those experiences with a gratitude jar or journal. 7. Build bridges, not walls Network, network, network. Creating relationships are important but maintaining them is even more crucial. Social media is a fantastic area to begin cultivating relationships. It’s all about who you know these days because the right people can connect you to outstanding opportunities. Try to associate yourself with individuals from different industries as well. Spread out! 8. Relax On a count of three, take a deep breath. 1, 2, …3. I know that this was a lot of information to take in, but remember that this journey is a marathon, not a sprint. So don’t expect success to happen overnight. Take your time, create a plan and focus on the next positive step. 9. Celebrate small victories Remember the gratitude jar/journal I spoke of in point 6? This is a great way to help you track your successes as you experience them. What I love about this process is that I can go back and reflect on how far I’ve come and that is what motivates me to keep going. Make time to express gratitude.
