THE GATEWAY SCHOOL MISSION

The Gateway School is a K-8, independent day school that transforms the lives of bright students with language-based learning disabilities and attention deficits At Gateway, our students become skilled, strategic learners and confident self-advocates Relying on direct, multi-sensory instruction and guided by an integrated curriculum, expert faculty teach students the language, literacy, and critical thinking skills that are the foundations for success in mainstream educational settings and beyond. Gateway believes a close relationship between the school and parents provides essential support as students grow and seek to realize their potential. In small classes and as members of a diverse and inclusive community, Gateway students experience academic and social success, recognize their strengths, and are empowered to become independent learners.

We are committed to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging in our community, while recognizing this is an everevolving topic Ultimately, we strive to build a safe, respectful, responsive culture, as well as a community that is grounded in connection and understanding, with an appreciation of and the opportunity to learn from our differences.

MESSAGE FROM GATEWAY’S HEAD OF SCHOOL

As Gateway’s Head of School for over four years, I’ve also had the privilege of being a Gateway parent, a Gateway Trustee, and, for over 40 years, an educator in NYC independent schools This unique perspective allows me to see the full picture of Gateway’s impact

Each day, I witness firsthand the remarkable growth of our students as they discover their potential The teachers, administrators, and I have seen children mature from our youngest lower school students to confident middle school students and graduates Our dedicated faculty, staff, and administrators work tirelessly to provide our children with a world-class education, rooted in our steadfast mission: to transform the lives of bright students with language-based learning differences and attention deficits, empowering them to be confident selfadvocates, on the road to becoming independent learners, and well-prepared for academic and personal success

At Gateway, we understand the pivotal role language plays in learning Every subject and social interaction is enriched through effective communication Our small, supportive classes foster a nurturing environment where students thrive, develop essential skills, and build lifelong friendships

The Gateway Difference

The Gateway Difference is more than just a saying It's a tight-knit community where every teacher, staff member, and administrator knows your child by name It's the commitment to seeing, recognizing, and celebrating each child's unique strengths and skills It's meeting students where they are and knowing how to help them grow, learn, and be successful

The Powe

This year marks Gateway’s 60th Anniversary, a perfect milestone to celebrate the life-changing power of a Gateway Education While tuition is essential, it doesn’t fully cover the cost of a Gateway education This is where philanthropy steps in

Each donation to the Annual Fund has provided vital resources to:

Nurture confident, independent, curious, and skilled students

Support ongoing professional development for our educators

Maintain small class sizes for personalized attention Fund program enhancements to enrich the student experience

Make our program accessible through financial aid

As you read through this Annual Report on Giving, remember that each name represents an individual whose partnership has enabled countless student success stories and continues to make Gateway’s transformative education possible. Thanks to this generous support, we can provide the best possible education and opportunities for our students.

We couldn’t do it without you To our families, colleagues, friends, and partners: thank you for joining us in our firm belief in the power of a Gateway Education

GREETINGS FROM GATEWAY’S BOARD CHAIR

On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I am delighted to present The Gateway School's Annual Report of Giving,

The Power of

Philanthropy: A Five-Year Retrospective of The Gateway Difference

This year, The Gateway School celebrates its 60th Anniversary As Board Chair and parent of three Gateway graduates, I've witnessed firsthand the transformative power of Gateway's approach to education Our 60-year legacy continues to change lives through the dedication of passionate professionals and engaged families who understand that bright minds thrive when teaching is explicit and intellectually stimulating. Gateway’s skillfully scaffolded program is efficiently taught with personalized feedback throughout the day. This considered approach enables students with different ways of learning to access teaching with repeated success and leads to extraordinary achievements

A primary responsibility of Gateway’s Board of Trustees is to safeguard the school’s program, its mission, strategic vision, and financial stability Thanks to The Power of Philanthropy, we have established key initiatives to advance our school's future, invested in the retention of expert faculty and ongoing professional development, increased the school’s footprint, provided leadership opportunities and capstone projects for students, diversified our student population, and expanded our community outreach This is the true essence of The Gateway Difference

At Gateway, families are essential partners in a child’s education. Our dedicated parents - whether through daily work,

donations to the Annual Fund, participation in school life, or as volunteers offering time and expertise –have directly impacted the lives of hundreds of students I am deeply grateful to this community we have created

At the heart of this partnership are two extraordinary co-heads of the Parent Association (PA), Katherine Grier and Katie Hart, who lead an extensive PA Board and group of parent representatives They are a resource of information, enrich the daily school life, and help create joyful lasting memories for our community I would like to take a moment to express my sincere gratitude for their vital work

Finally, I commend the exceptional dedication and hard work of Gateway's faculty, staff, and administration whose energy, innovation, and compassion are essential to the preservation and advancement of Gateway’s program. Their unwavering support for our students and families exemplifies the highest standards of professionalism and care

I remain inspired and reassured by the strength and generosity of the Gateway community and eagerly anticipate bringing The Gateway Difference to students and families for 60 more years to come

we honor our

As we commemorate 60 years of The Gateway School, most dedicated benefactors—trustees, former trustees, parents, alumni parents, faculty, staff, grandparents, and friends whose transformative giving has been instrumental in advancing our mission. They have demonstrated extraordinary commitment through their support of our capital campaigns, annual funds, and galas

Their profound generosity has enabled Gateway to create cuttingedge learning environments, recruit and retain exceptional educators, provide comprehensive professional development, and extend our reach through robust financial aid. These visionary supporters understand that investing in Gateway means investing in proven educational approaches that empower students with learning differences to thrive.

The following distinguished donors represent the cornerstone of Gateway's philanthropic community, whose cumulative giving has built the foundation for our next 60 years of educational excellence.
