Many people associate the need for medical and financial powers of attorney with being elderly or infirm, when the bottom line is, no one can consent or act on behalf of another person if they are over 18 years of age. The size of the estate doesn’t matter, large or small; you still have to handle these details for someone and cannot do so without the proper powers of attorney. So, although they may never need it, make sure everyone you love and/or may be responsible for if such an event were to occur, has the proper powers of attorney in place! I would much rather do free powers of attorney than earn fees doing guardianship proceedings and watching a family suffer through the costs and delays involved.
