In 2011, we saw a slow and steady rebound of the economy, though we're certainly not out of the woods in terms of the economy as a whole. U.S. markets continue to face uncertainty over the European economy and escalating gas prices could derail the momentum.

personal service. Not only do our bankers work with businesses to craft cost-cutting and timesaving solutions - such as affordable employeebenefit programs, ebiz online banking, and merchant services - but they anticipate needs as businesses evolve and grow.

Closer to home, The Washington-Baltimore area seems to be somewhat insulated from the severe economic turmoil the rest of the country has faced. Our local housing market has started to rebound at a favorable rate compared to national levels. And the Base Realignment and Closure activities, development in and around Silver Spring, and road work and new construction are all clear signs of a healthy, vibrant, local economy. One of the main drivers for this recovery remains the stability of federal jobs in the MD, DC and VA areas.

Critical to a business' success is the ability to manage cash flow and finance growth. A line of credit from Sandy Spring Bank can help smooth out income fluctuations. During lean times, a line of credit affords the freedom to access working capital for things like supplies, employee payroll, and inventory. During times of financial expansion, excess funds can be deposited into Sweep Investment Accounts.

To effectively navigate today's economy, businesses need a savvy financial co-pilot someone to guide them through rough waters and provide a safe harbor. As the largest publicly traded banking company headquartered and operating in Maryland, Sandy Spring Bank is well positioned to help businesses of all sizes survive turbulent economic times and emerge positioned for future success. Our seasoned professionals have access to an array of commercial banking products and services that enable clients to simplify their finances and spend more time focusing on their goals. Sandy Spring bankers are not only accessible, but are committed to turning around requests as expeditiously as possible. Loan decisions are made locally here in Maryland; not farmed out to other states for consideration by people unfamiliar with you and your business. It is this relationship banking that differentiates Sandy Spring Bank from the competition. Our bankers have raised the bar when it comes to

Despite headlines to the contrary, many banks Sandy Spring chief among them - continue to lend to new and existing commercial clients. We have also made variety of sales/process improvements to better serve the small business community. As an active SBA lender, we are committed to supporting the businesses and institutions that give this region such vitality and character. To that end, our employees are active and engaged in their communities. Last year alone, Sandy Spring Bank staff gave over 31,000 hours in volunteer work and community improvement, such as the bank's Rebuilding Together and Habitat for Humanity teams, which have renovated low-income homes in three counties. We're working with local elementary schools with an In-School Banking Program that teaches children about banking and finances in a real world atmosphere. Students serve as tellers, collecting deposits and settling accounts. Not only does the program reinforce math skills, it provides children responsibility for handling money and emphasizes the importance of saving.

While success in the here and now is important, Sandy Spring Bank also assists clients in identifying and achieving long-term financial goals. Succession planning, for example, can ease the transition between current and future owners. Such planning also allows for business assets to be maximized, estate taxes to be minimized, and can open new opportunities for family business ownership. Business owners can benefit personally from Sandy Spring Bank's wealth management services. Our hands-on, proactive and personalized approach to managing, growing and preserving your assets relies on your unique level of comfort and tolerance for financial risk. Dedicated to client satisfaction, Sandy Spring Bank is never content with the status quo. We continually realign our people, processes and technology in order to exceed the needs of our clients. The banking industry is not stagnant; new technologies promise to change the way businesses and clients bank. Overview

18

Montgomery College has been changing lives in Montgomery County for more than 60 years. Founded in 1946, the college is nationally recognized for the quality of its academic programs in the liberal arts, sciences, business, and technology. Through its credit and noncredit courses, Montgomery College provides students with the opportunity to earn an associate's degree or certificate, improve work skills, learn a new trade, complete an apprenticeship, or pursue lifelong learning. Montgomery College faculty and staff provide a supportive learning environment and, with courses available online and on campus, students can pursue their education year round. The student/faculty ratio is 19:1, which means that students receive personalized attention. Among the college's signature programs are: Montgomery Scholars, a selective honors program that provides students with a summer study opportunity at the University of Cambridge in England; the Macklin Business Institute Scholars, an honors program for business students; and the Renaissance Scholars, an intensive honors program offered for students in the evenings.

Montgomery College is the only community college in the nation to offer internship opportunities for students at the Smithsonian Institution, the Library of Congress, and the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum. Montgomery College counts more than 450,000 alumni, many of whom are active in the Alumni Association. Nearly 60 percent of Montgomery County Public School graduates who stay in Maryland for college attend Montgomery College within the following year. The New York Times recognized Montgomery College as one of the nation's top colleges for preparing students to transfer to four-year colleges and universities. Montgomery College students, faculty, and staff give back to the community by working with 150 nonprofit organizations. Even in difficult economic times, Montgomery College generates a return on investment. As many as 90 percent of the College's students remain in the state and contribute to economic growth. The college strengthens the local economy by $1.8 billion. Students with an associate degree from Montgomery College will increase their earnings to $55,800 per year, which is 39 percent more than the average high school student.
