FALL 2014 IT IS WITH PRIDE AND PLEASURE that I share the latest

edition of the Frederick County Department of Aging’s resource directory known as the “Blue Book.” This publication is made possible through a collaborative partnership between The Gazette and the Frederick County Department of Aging. It is this partnership that allows the Department of Aging to provide this resource directory to you without expense to the Frederick County Government, and I extend my appreciation to The Gazette and to the advertisers for their assistance. I also want to thank the Department of Aging staff for ensuring that the information contained in this resource guide is accurate and relevant.

THIS PUBLICATION’S LONGEVITY and requests for distribution are a reflection on how it

continues to be an important resource for many people in Frederick County. It is updated annually to showcase relevant and current information for citizens who face diverse challenges, interests, and needs, as well as a multi-generational population that spans ages 18 to 90+. Within its pages, you will find information about public and private resources and opportunities.

THE FREDERICK COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF AGING serves as the Maryland Access

Point (MAP) for Frederick County older adults, persons with disabilities, and the family members or caregivers who support them. MAP is a single point of entry for access to information, referral, and awareness; options counseling, advice and assistance; streamlined eligibility determination for public programs; and person-centered transition support. This approach to accessing health related supports and services has a direct impact on case management, including an increase in the number of inquiries, as well as actual hands-on administration of programs.

THE FREDERICK COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF AGING is responsible for providing services,

ensuring the quality of and identifying gaps in service areas, and assisting in the development of new initiatives to meet ever-increasing demands for all types of services. The tremendous growth in the older adult population over the next 20 years will place precedent-setting demands on all agencies, not just Aging agencies. This will necessitate cooperation, collaboration, and creativity to meet expanding needs in both the public and private sectors.

WE RELY ON YOUR EXPERIENCES to help create a vibrant department, and your partici-

pation in Department of Aging programs is a key ingredient to enhancing the quality of life for everyone in Frederick County. Sincerely,

Carolyn B. True, Director Frederick County Department of Aging
