CRISIS DECISION MAKING: NAVIGATING THROUGH THE STORM Course Director
Learning to navigate effectively in a turbulent and fast-moving world Decision-making is a critical leadership competency, especially in time of crisis. Effective leaders need to understand how decisions are made and how to avoid pitfalls. This course will provide participants with a powerful combination of critical knowledge, hands-on expertise and leadership skills that will enable them to improve their ability to face critical challenges.
Dr Carl Ungerer Head of the Leadership, Crisis and Conflict Management Programme at GCSP. He has over 20 years of experience as both a practitioner and academic in international security affairs, including as Senior Adviser to the Australian Foreign Minister.

This course provides participants with knowledge, tools and skills that will help them be more effective as a practitioner in foreign and security policy (at a national and international level), or in the private and non-profit sector. The course is designed to deepen participants knowledge of what is involved in making timely and effective decisions. It will also offer the opportunity to explore at a personal, cultural and organisational level the capabilities needed to perform effectively in tense situations. Participants will become more resilient by exploring skills and behaviours necessary to better cope with overcoming challenges and setbacks.
Upon completion of the course, you become part of the expanding GCSP alumni network and enjoy continued access to our events. Security policy conferences enable current and past participants to meet, debate policy issues and share ideas and experiences in an informal setting.

The course has been designed to bring out the best of the 3 crucial elements that together form the basis of GCSP’s holistic learning experiences: The latest in high level academic expertise, the wisdom of experienced senior practitioners, and the collective experience of the participants. This unique blend enables participants to engage on challenging topics and explore the boundaries of their own capabilities in an interactive learning environment. We will use all this to explore the knowledge, skills and behaviours that are known to produce high performance in challenging conditions.
