GEOPOLITICS AND GLOBAL FUTURES PROGRAMME MAIN PURPOSE The programme looks to identify emerging issues and technologies that will impact the way global actors approach security, dignity, and the future of humanity. The programme conducts its research and analysis according to 5 themes: • Emerging strategic technologies • New international relations paradigms • Meta-geopolitics of outer space • Neuroscience and international relations • The five dimensions of global security

HIGHLIGHTS FOR 2015
Professor Nayef Al-Rodhan
• The topics covered seek to promote an interdisciplinary and holistic understanding of emerging issues so as to enhance preparedness and proactivity among global and national actors. • Since 2014, the programme has continued with its research objectives into future global trends and security implications. The main topics of research in 2015 include analyses of neurophilosophy, regulation of emerging technologies, governance issues, and space security. • The publications are unique in that they analyse potential future challenges that need to be examined and brought into public discourse. The programme often looks at technologies that are so new that most people aren’t even aware of them yet.
The Programme engages in two main activities:
Nayef Al-Rodhan is a philosopher, neuroscientist and geostrategist. He is Honorary Fellow of St. Antony’s College at Oxford University, Oxford, United Kingdom. He holds an M.D. and a Ph.D. He is a prize winning scholar who previously worked in neurosurgery and neuroscience research at the Mayo Clinic, Yale University and Harvard University.
