WHAT WE DO
It all starts with nature. Every breath we take, every bite we eat. The things that make our lives and livelihoods possible have their origins in the natural world. Unfortunately, we are pushing
nature beyond its boundaries. Our growing global population’s demand for resources is depleting forests and oceans faster than they can recover. Every person on Earth deserves a healthy environment.
Nature is speaking. It’s telling us it’s time to act. Conservation International is working around the globe to protect nature. We use science, policy and partnerships to safeguard the forests, rivers, lakes, coasts, oceans and wetlands that provide food and water, sustain economies and help promote a stable climate.
Driving Innovative Science CI’s world-class scientists produce groundbreaking research and data that help governments, international institutions and companies respond to threats, spot risks and opportunities, and set sustainability standards.
Financing the Protection of Nature CI helps establish endowments and trust funds that ensure protected areas have sustained, long-term funding. We broker innovative financial solutions like debt-for-nature swaps which countries conserve natural resources in exchange for debt forgiveness.
Partnering with Companies We promote policies and practices that promote nature conservation and economic development, particularly in the agriculture, energy, mining and retail sectors.
Investing Locally We work on the ground in 26 countries and connect local communities to funding, training and technology. Nearly a third of our funds go directly to local organizations that are generating solutions from the ground up.

Teaming with Others to Broaden Our Reach We partner with industry leaders, civil society groups and governments to scale up and multiply our efforts.

Engaging Governments CI provides the data and tools that governments need to better understand the value of their natural resources— and we work together to establish policies, laws and enforcement practices that protect them.
Nature Doesn’t Need People.
PEOPLE NEED NATURE.
