Welcome to the Postgraduate Showcase 2021 at The Glasgow School of Art. For the School of Fine Art the Postgraduate Showcase comprises graduating students from our one year masters programmes: MLitt Art Writing, MLitt Curatorial Practice (Contemporary Art), MLitt Fine Art Practice. These graduates appear during August and September at a range of events both online and in person, and during the annual Showcase at https://gsapostgradshowcase.net/ . POSTGRADUATE SHOWCASE 2021 – SCHOOL OF FINE ART Students from the School of Fine Art’s three specialist programmes exhibit in the GSA’s Stow Building as part of the Postgraduate Showcase 2021, presenting challenging and invigorating work across writing, painting, drawing, print, sculpture, performance, photography, moving image and curatorial practice.

Graduating students from across the GSA’s schools of fine art, design, architecture, innovation and simulation and visualisation showcase their work online, complemented by a series of graduate-led online events. The Showcase launches live on 9 September at 5pm with an opening event and preview for industry and VIPs. The Showcase will also include the online launch of The Yellow Paper Edition 2.

A RADICAL ACT OF LOVE: ARBORESCENCE, ECHOING THE MYCORRHIZAL NETWORK OF OAKS A series of events, an online publication and a residency programme inspired by the creation of future forests, taking the planting of oak saplings as the starting point for international ecological artistic commissions. The work will continue to develop, due to the establishment of the charity organisation- Healy Arts Foundation, which will support emerging and mid-career artists working within the fields of ecological art and environmental arts to develop and situate their work within a supportive network of practitioners. The organisation will provide financial aid and residency support in a newly established art retreat, located in Lunga Estate, Argyll. The project will be supported by an online publication with a collectable limited edition of printed copies. @siobhan.healy_scotland

CONNECTIVEART_ ConnectiveArt_ is an online platform that allows artists and curators to work on projects collaboratively. Each month is dedicated to a single artist, providing an intimate encounter with their work through different conversations and perspectives. Launched on 6th August it includes podcasts on artist Mari Quinn and an online exhibition by Mari running from 13th of August till the 27th of August. Alongside Mari, guest artist Victoria Pender talks about her own art practice, art-life balance and shares some of her work.

WAKING ON LOCUS Waking on Locus presents seven interviews with individuals exploring different forms of walking practices in Syros Island, Greece. Interviews took place between June and July 2021, and excerpts are presented here as introductions to the different approaches to navigating the island. Each interview is composed of video and audio documentation, written text and photography. Featured contributors are Lara Buffard, Justine Arvanitis, Eriana Panopoulou, Cassandra Celestin, Martin Engi, Konstantinos Katagas and Dimitris Hamezopoulos.

LEAD FROM THE LAND Lead From The Land is a collaborative research project between Zambian artist Banji Chona, currently located in Rome, and Nigerian artist Yadichinma Ukoha-Kalu, who lives in Lagos. Their correspondence took the form of a six-week-long residency built on an understanding of food creation and consumption as a ritualistic practice that fosters earthly and ancestral connections. Through their correspondence with each other and curator Beulah Ezeugo, they trace personal acts of resistance to the colonisation of indigenous food practices.

THE NIGHT VOYAGE The Night Voyage, is an online exhibition - a project based on a fictional story about a voyage after the new apocalypse, a drifting ship sailing through nothingness, and aims to focus on individual emotions in a collective crisis and on the narrative of curating. Featured artists in the project are by Huiyi Li, Rowan Ormiston, Xiaojia Ouyang, Martha Panagiotopoulou and Mengqui Xu. https://www.thenightvoyage.com/

Ongoing Online Kewei Xiong, MLitt Curatorial Practice (Contemporary Art)


14 GLASGOW 14 Glasgow is an ongoing curatorial project in which artists are invited to engage with Glasgow’s vacant or derelict buildings through postcard artwork. The project is intended to reinvigorate Glasgow’s dormant 19th-century houses with personal correspondence, in the same form as would have been received in the late 19th – early 20th century, with the advent and widespread popularity of picture postcards. This online exhibition features the work of Chih-Kang Hsu and Ross Nolan.
