SUPPORT FOR STUDENTS WITH A DISABILITY

Learning Support is available to all GSA students throughout their study at the GSA.

OUR LEARNING SUPPORT TUTORS CAN HELP YOU: • Think about your learning and how you learn

MANY STUDENTS AT THE GSA HAVE DISABILITY-RELATED NEEDS. THE TERM DISABILITY INCLUDES:

• Long standing illness or health condition

• Explore your study strategies and skills

• Physical impairment or mobility issues

• Specific learning differences — such as dyslexia, dyspraxia, Asperger’s or ADHD

COUNSELLING SERVICE The Student Counselling Service offers professional, time limited counselling to provide students the opportunity to explore personal and emotional issues that impact on you and your studies with a professional Counsellor.

Talking to someone who does not know you and won’t judge you can help to make sense of a situation and to find a way forward. The Counsellor will not tell you what to do, but will give you the opportunity to consider the impact your difficulties are having on you and support you in finding your own solutions.

BE AWARE OF SCAM PHONE CALLS Some criminals specifically target students, telephoning them and pretending to be from a legitimate organisation (such as the UK Home Office, an embassy, bank or the HMRC). They demand money and claim that if you do not pay them quickly, there will be damaging consequences (for example, cancelling your visa or taking you to court). These criminal callers can be very threatening and persuasive. The GSA would like to remind all students not to give out bank details or access to online banking under any circumstances and to contact Police Scotland directly using 101 if you receive a suspicious phone call or believe you are being scammed. Here is further guidance on stopping fraud and avoiding scams: www.scotland.police.uk/takefive Please contact welfare@gsa.ac.uk if you have any questions or concerns.

COVID-19 + STAYING SAFE PLAY YOUR PART. KEEP OUR COMMUNITY SAFE As a student at the GSA you are part of a creative community and have a role to play in ensuring a safe environment for everyone. This means that whether you are in GSA Halls, Private Halls, living in a private flat or with family, if you have or suspect you have COVID-19, or match any of the other criteria listed by the Scottish Government on who needs to self-isolate, you must do so, and report your absence to us at covid19absence@gsa.ac.uk as soon as possible. You can find guidance on self-isolating support and help, how to get free tests and getting vaccinated for COVID-19 on the student intranet under Safe Campus.
