My fourth-year project is a physiotherapy centre for sick children, reinventing medical spaces to be inclusive to accommodate children. also considered medical staff, parents, families, and friends of sick children who are, unfortunately, not integrated enough. All my work is based on the needs of the user, whoever they may be.
was inspired by Biophilia, which means a love of nature.” Biophilic design incorporates nature into building spaces to contribute to the health and well-being of occupants. I chose to use biophilic design both outside and inside the building by creating a garden and a vertical forest atrium. This huge green atrium with a glass roof provides natural light into the building.
My essay studies the reasons why we should rebuild Notre Dame de Paris identically as before the fire on April 15th 2019, but in a way adapted to the techniques and issues of our period. Notre-Dame de Paris Cathedral is a Gothic masterpiece that is almost a thousand years old and since its fire the restoration today represents an unprecedented challenge that has provoked long and passionate debates.
I am an interior designer from Hong Kong interested in improving people’s experience of interior space and shaping their quality of living in the future, especially for senior citizens and their well-being. My graduate project ‘The Phases’, aims to help patients to re-discover self-values and to also destigmatize the mental health environment in society. Senior citizens can experience a new journey in their life in this psychiatric rehabilitation home through a variety of playful therapies and sharing common spaces for interactions as healing.
My essay, Global Protest and War in Cyberspace, addresses the effectiveness and importance of global protest and war in cyberspace. I begin by looking at the history of social movement and how it has developed. Part two will discuss the development of social media and how it affects the social movement from online to the real world. I will focus on the Arab Spring, the Umbrella Movement and the Anti‐ELBA Movement as examples to compare the different patterns of using social media and the caused results. Part three will state the current situation of cyberspace through the Russo Ukrainian and discuss the international tensions between China, the U.S. and Taiwan in this war. The conclusion will join these three discussions and explorations together and reflect on the consequence of the development of social media in the future.
This project centres around the design of a public Hammam for women only, incorporating traditional aspects of the Hammam experience while expanding upon its offerings. The goal is to create a space where women feel comfortable, relaxed, and free to be themselves, while also promoting mental and physical well-being. The aim of the project is to create a space that provides a comprehensive experience for women, reducing anxiety and stress, improving concentration, and increasing happiness. The Hammam is designed to function for everyone’s needs, providing a welcoming and approachable atmosphere, allowing each woman to enter and experience a sense of personal empowerment and growth.
This design project is inspired by my Critical Investigation of the significance of Hammam rituals for women, particularly Muslim women, both in terms of their spiritual and physical purification and their political and community impact. The essay delves into the body, purity, and perception of traditional Turkish and Moroccan hammams, exploring their effects on women’s physical, mental, and political health. It is a vital foundation for my design project as it provides insight into the significance of hammams for women and how they can promote wellness and self-care. By incorporating these insights into my design, I aim to create a space that inspires women and encourages them to connect with their bodies, minds, and souls.
As an Interior Designer I am drawn to spaces which are immersive and inspire connection between you and those around you. Through my passion for film and interiors, I have discovered how design can create immersive environments, which draw audiences into new worlds and allow us to see our own world differently. am interested in how form, materials and lighting can combine to create dramatic spaces and settings for story and change. Interiors in film can present us with a better understanding of characters and the worlds they live in, as well as allowing us to observe our own world from new perspectives. have long been interested in how spatial design, like film, can create community and encourage people to come together and connect over a shared passion. Central to this is creating inclusive spaces which are welcoming to all, encouraging creativity and limitless expression.
Within my projects, I enjoy creating spaces which transport people, like audiences, into new worlds. This year have created Obscura - a concept design for a film space and hidden cinema in the centre of Glasgow. This is a partially secret entertainment, learning and social venue, inspired by film and split across two round buildings and the tunnel which connects them.
am an interior designer, inspired and influenced by creating a-typical, inclusive environments, in both playful and professional scenarios. So for my final project, ‘Sense’, have designed a multi-use complex, targeted to break down the average hobby and learning experience, and create a more inclusive space for neuro-divergents to be fully comfortable in a social environment. Using the senses as a primary focus and influence on my design decisions, have developed an immersive sensory centre, that takes into consideration a wide range of people and their needs.
Through my dissertation, titled: ‘The Link between Architecture and Environmental Design to Criminal Behaviour’, I have also learned about how interiors and environments can influence a person’s way of thinking, and also their behaviour and actions. And although not directly linked to the theme of my project, this research that took place has influenced my designs, by highlighting how important all of the senses are in an interior space, and how those senses can make a person feel.
My final project at Glasgow School of Art will see Olympia House, Bridgeton become a support centre for women who have left the prison system at some point. This is for women looking to build a strong foundation and community network and to gain valuable skills for independent living, with the option of childcare facilities for women with children.
Additionally, the block of flats to the right of the building will provide a secure accommodation for the people who are still finding their footing and need shelter to help prevent them from falling into bad habits and reoffending. The interior consists of curved timber ribbon” walls that gently guide you through the space and an unapologetically feminine colour palette of pink, mauve, burgundy, navy, and rust orange. I have always been intrigued by socially responsible design and the ethical dilemmas that can occur when creating a physical space, in particular with prison architecture and the controversy surrounding the subject.
When researching for my DH&T essay The Relationship Between Ethics and Human Cultural Production in the Built Environment: From the Nineteenth-Century Gothic Revival to Mid-Twentieth Century Modernism, it further cemented in me that should create a design with one of my own strong beliefs at the forefront, which are that ex-prisoners should not be forgotten by society.
have always been passionate about art, music, and dance. It has often been my experience as a professional musician and dancer to witness an invisible gap between these artistic groups. Both continue their artistic practice whilst simultaneously maintaining this separation yet recognise that dance and music complement one another. My intention is to establish a creative community of professional artists inside the venue, with collaboration among professional musicians and dancers. My desire was to create an innovative music & dance venue, situated in the musically powerful city of Glasgow, a vibrant city, with a rich music and theatre history music scenes and venues. My proposal would be an alternative venue format for modern music and dance, somewhere inclusive and a welcome addition to experimental theatre; dance, video art, visual art and music composition.
Any combination of these could respond to a social issue, political issue, or personal issue. A progressive 200-seat adaptable auditorium, designed to meet the needs of contemporary audiences and theatre-makers, which can respond to shows in different formats would create an up to the minute usable space, inspiring creativity and preserving the site’s architectural heritage, achieving my overall goal to create modern designs with particular attention to functionality, materials, and detail.
As an Interior Designer, I prioritize people interacting with the space, materials, and form in my design process. I place great importance on creating an environment that is comfortable and enjoyable for those who occupy it. Naturally sourced materials are crucial to me, not just for their visual appeal but also their sustainability. have a strong focus on form and the effective use of space. I always consider every element of the space to create unique, memorable designs with a strong sense of character and personality.
For my final project, I designed a relaxing centre for young adults who needed to take a break from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. By combining my knowledge of people and materials with my ability to use space effectively, I created a functional, inviting, and calming space. This project was an opportunity to develop my passion for interior design and creating spaces that are both beautiful and environmentally conscious. Overall, my practice, as a designer, centres around creating spaces that are both functional and aesthetically pleasing. believe that interior design is about creating an environment that is not only beautiful but also serves the needs of those who occupy it.
