As an interior designer, I’m fascinated by the connection between people and the spaces they occupy. I’m particularly interested in how a narrative environment can create a strong bond between people and the space itself. This year, I’m working on a project to design a hotel called ”City Islet.” The idea is to create a harbor for travelers who want to take a break from their journeys. believe that everyone is like an islet in this world, with their own unique stories. I want to use the interior design as a tool to facilitate these connections, and to provide guests with unique memories of their stay. My hope is that by meeting different people, guests will feel like they are discovering new “islets” within the hotel. Ultimately, I believe that the power of interior design can help people form meaningful connections with the spaces they inhabit.
Extended Essay: Can utopia be achieved in moments? This essay explores the relationship between utopia and moments. Initially I analyses utopia’s definition and why it cannot be achieved in reality. And then examines minor utopias and individual utopias. Finally comparing different artists’ works to show how utopia is achieved in moments. The essay concludes by discussing how people can achieve utopia in moments and how these moments can benefit them.
As an interior designer, it is important to speculate social topics and combine them into the design ideology. Death always seems to be a threatening social subject, and it has been interpreted differently in various cultures. Recently, individual stress levels are increasing due to the rapid development of the world and social digital influence during Covid-19 furthering anxiety towards death. My design, Modern Sensibility, is a Death Education Centre which seeks to provide an open space for people to discuss death and improve mutual respect between diverse perspectives. The Centre can help to soothe people, improve their living qualities, and explore the challenges of the commonality of death that everyone must confront.
For my Critical Journal, Modern Sensibility: The Contemporary Design of a Death Education Centre, evaluate three aspects of death: tactility, memory and speaking. These are arranged in the sequence of cognition and seeks balance and inclusiveness between cultures. I evaluate death designs in both pre-digital and digital eras, to compare the messages they convey, especially in how the digital world can influence people’s attitudes towards death. I explore via a multi-denominational perspective which references artworks from artists of different backgrounds to support a critical design approach
