Stella loves to talk with her friend the moon.

Up in space, the moon keeps a big library of everything she has ever seen and every story she has ever heard.

Every night before she goes to sleep, Stella takes her flying ship up into space ...

... and the moon reads her a bedtime story.

She told Stella that once she was part of our planet but a space rock pushed her away and separated us.

“For a long long time everything was quiet and empty.” She said, “It felt like forever.”

One night the moon told Stella the story of the oceans. In the beginning the Earth was really hot.

Slowly it cooled, ...

... clouds formed and storms that lasted years covered the planet with water.

“It was really Fun!” she said “I loved learning to dance with the ocean.”

The Moon has seen everything. She told Stella about the very first living things, teeny tiny little creatures…

... and about the huge, beautiful plant-eating animals that came later.

“It makes me sad to think I will never see them” Stella said. “Don’t worry my friend,” the moon replied “Life went on and new types of animals and plants were born.”

She read Stella the story of when humans first appeared, how they changed over time, ...

... how they came to understand themselves and each other, explored the earth and did wonderful things together.

“I loved when people came to visit” the moon told Stella “and I wasn’t even angry when they took some pieces of me back with them.”

Most nights the Moon is big and bright and full of joy, ready to tell Stella a story. Lately though, she has been quieter than usual and has started to turn her face away from the Earth.

“Why are you so silent?” Stella asked the moon, “Can you tell me another story.”

“Well, some of my stories are not very happy ones.” the moon replied, “I have seen and heard things that make me very worried”.

“The birds tell me the air is getting dirty and it is harder to breathe every day.”

The monkeys tell me their homes and the homes of their friends are disappearing.

“I have seen tall mountains of waste reach the skies. All the other mountains are worried.”

The next morning at school, everyone looked very tired...

“When I dance with the ocean now he seems heavy and tired.”

Suddenly Stella felt anger burst inside her. “I need to DO something about this!” she decided.

The next morning, she got to work and told the same stories the moon had told her to as many people as she could.

Those people told more people.

And those people told even more people.

Soon many agreed there was a big problem and together their voices were being heard all the way up in space.

It turns out the more Stella listened to the earth, the more she could hear back.

Suddenly she could talk to the birds and the mountains.

She even learned how to dance with the ocean.

Everyday, Stella did a little bit to help the planet and the moon started smiling again.

Getting brighter and brighter every day, the moon now witnessed another beautiful story. A story she would cherish and add to her library to read to future children.

The story of how the people of a planet came together to heal their home.

Recycle some materials or use natural ones you find to create a cool poster about the environment that will make someone smile.

Talk with a friend or a neighbour about what you have learned about the environment.

A compost bucket is a great way to recycle your organic waste, like banana peels, rests of food, etc. You use it as a natural fertilizer that will keep the soil healthy and nourished.

Eating less meat will reduce the number of harmful gases released into our atmosphere. Pick one day of your week to do an all-veggie day, if you like it a lot, add more days.

You can pass down clothes you don’t wear anymore to family members or take them to second-hand shops.

Meeting people that also care for the environment will teach you a lot more about small everyday behaviours that you can change to help the earth get healthier.

Instead of travelling by car choosing to take the bus or to cycle will reduce the amount of pollution in the air.

Many single-use plastics end up in a mountain of waste and take very long to decompose. Avoid them when you can.

Here you can learn a lot about growing your own veggies in an eco-friendly way and meet very nice people.

Stella is a little girl who every night before going to sleep flies her ship up into space to hear one of the many stories the moon keeps in her big library. The moon is usually always ready to read stella a story, but one night, something doesn’t seem right. The moon is quieter and turns her face away from earth. Why is the moon sad?

Moon Tales approaches the theme of climate emergency and introduces children to take an active role in being part of the solution of a global issue.
