ow does DTLA cool off in the summer? With a trip to the ice cream
The Dolly Llama is more
than just your everyday ice cream parlor. The hip artisan shop attracts youngsters and adults alike. The logo is a llama wearing a pair of light blue sunglasses. With their iconic homemade bubble waffles and delicious ice cream flavors like cookie monster and red velvet, The Dolly Llama keeps the heat at bay. The sweet smell of waffle cones greet-
ed us upon entering The Dolly Llama. Friendly staff suggested we enjoy one of their decadent treats, a hand crafted Hong Kong style bubble waffle topped with our choice of sauces, toppings and ice cream flavor of choice. We try the bright blue Cookie Monster with Oreos, strawberries, Nutella, and whipped cream shown above. We are not disappointed and feel delightfully full after fighting and finally flipping a coin to see which one of us will get to eat the cookie. The Bubble Waffle is a meal in itself or the perfect romantic share. But this is not romance. This is work. Downtown Weekly work is tasty. Very tasty.
We look to our left and behold - a child.
She is shaking her head at us. It seems DTLA is a fun, happening place for kids, older individuals, and everyone in between. For the kiddies, Dolly Llama has just introduced Bubble Jr. a smaller version with all the fixin’s and she is just as happy as we are.
Meet the Llama!
For those wondering why it’s called The Dolly Llama... Co owner, Samuel Baroux, is from France and his best friend back home had a pet llama they grew up with named Dolly.
Dolly Llama is a Waffle Master!
There are three types of styles. The bubble waffle is the most popular. It starts off round, hot off the grill then gets folded into a cone and filled with your choice of toppings. The OG waffle just lays back and lets the toppings cover its soft bed of bubbles. The waffle stick is made from Madeline cookies and is a nice, crispy alternative, perfect for on the go! Dolly Llama opened last December on Spring Street and 6th with plans to expand throughout the Los Angeles area. Very chill - They just opened another location in K-Town on Western Ave. Dolly Llama DTLA is located at 611 S. Spring Street, open from noon to midnight. @thedollyllama_la

owntown Los Angeles would have remained pretty much the same if a little-known ice cream parlor, had not opened a new palate-assaulting frontier at the corner of 7th and Spring in February of last year. Suddenly, our nieghborhood experienced an awakening as a dark became delicious, and Goth-inspired ice cream advanced, ready to conquer the city.
But Jenny was determined not to give up her sweet tooth, so, she bid her time. Like a seasoned warrior who does not rush to battle, she studied the tactics of her formidable enemy and examined all the chinks in his armor.

Owner and concept maker Jenny aka Jenny Damage (a name given to the shy, petite ice cream superhero during her first interview with Downtown Weekly), just like most of us, grew up worshiping and craving ice cream. At one time Jenny stated that she fulfilled that urge religiously by eating a pint of ice cream a day. Over the years, Jenny became a die-hard ice cream enthusiast until an ominous adversary started challenging her sweet escapade: lactose. Lactose intolerance had crept in on padded feet, invaded her life and was not in a hurry to leave.

10 DTLA SUPER CHILL: DIVINE DIPS BY NANCY CAMACHO
VOL 10 NO 8 - AUG 30th - Sept 5th, 2018/ DTLA-WEEKLY.COM
divine dips HISTORIC CORE
heavenly vegan ice cream
Nestled on the corner of 6th and Los Angeles Street, Divine Dips delivers a welcome addition to the DTLA food scene; a vegan ice cream that tastes just like the real thing.
Owner Diane R. Jacobs has
been making desserts for most of her professional life, opening and running Cakeworks, gallery of edible art, known for their artistic, custom cakes, for twelve years prior to creating Divine Dips in 2011.
Ice Cream. Meet Your Match!
Diane’s divine journey started after becoming lactose and gluten-free. In an effort to create a substitute for her favorite treat, ice cream, Diane spent years perfecting her recipes for vegan, artisanal ice creams; getting the correct balance of fat to solid and liquid, using not just one milk substitute, but a precise blend of coconut and nut milks. After careful research and experimentation, she finally succeeded in achieving the correct balance necessary to replicate dairy. Infinite Mint was her first creation; She sent a pint to her sister as a birthday present in 2009 and then to close friends. The feedback was unanimous. Her vegan ice cream was a hit. By 2011 Diane was selling her vegan ice cream wholesale in the greater Los Angeles area. As of today, Divine Dips can be found at over a dozen grocery store locations. Look out for the Divine Dips mobile kitchen as well, which first made its debut during Art Walk.
All Pun and Games From the hand-painted scoop that adorns the shop wall, to the carefully crafted flavors with punny names, Diane’s playful artistry leaves its fingerprint on everything she touches. Aside from spins on classic flavors, Divine Dips has created notable additions such as Dulce Sans Leche and Caffe No~Lait. Bombay Gold is a Downtown Weekly favorite. It’s a spicy mix of turmeric, cinnamon, cardamom and ginger bits. In total, she has twenty-four flavors, all made with natural organic ingredients. Diane has gone an extra mile by creating a list of Ve-sserts; gluten-free cookies, brownies, toppings, and sauces which allow her to offer some truly delectable options such as ice-cream sandwiches, Sundaes, and Mylkshakes for customers to choose from. In the future, Divine Dips plans to launch a new additions to the menu like a cinnamon baked donut properly named, the Churronut. Eating Divine Dips is a rounded experience which shows the true mastery of the maker’s art. Early bird ice cream fans should know Divine Dips opens at 2pm, stays open late and is closed on Mondays. @divinedips
