What is a Zero Waste Event? A Zero Waste Event maximizes composting and recycling at the event in order to minimize landfill waste.

What is the process of making an event Zero Waste?

1.

Consider all the waste materials that will be generated at the event. Meet with the Zero Waste Events Coordinator to help brainstorm.

2. This year zero waste events worked events including: •Staff Appreciation BBQ •Tennis Tournament •Food Day •CNR Decemberfest •I-House Albright Lecture •Energy and Bioscience Building Weekly Events •Carelton Building Staff Meetings

Try to reduce or replace materials that would end up in the landfill waste stream.

3.

Provide composting and recycling bins at the event with clear signage. In addition, “trash talkers” can help event participants sort their trash.

Future Zero Waste Events include: •Cal Day •Zero Waste Week •UC Berkeley Commencement •Senior Week Activities

Zero Waste Events aims to prevent the production of landfill waste at campus events. By working with event planners and caterers, Zero Waste Events fills a gap in our current waste diversion model. Event planners are willing and excited to work together towards a Zero Waste goal. Zero Waste Events simply provides the information and infrastructure to make composting and recycling at events a reality.
