the Nigerian Union FGasofROMPetroleum and Natural Workers (NUPENG) came yesterday a warning that it would embark on a nationwide strike over alleged victimisation and severance of its union officials in Chevron and Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC). According to the union, its grouse with both companies are the prolonged antilabour posture, planned retrenchment of 120 of its members, non-recognition of union activities and plans to pay only one month basic as severance benefits. National President of NUPENG, Igwe Achese, at the Central Working Committee (CWC) meeting yesterday said the union would begin with a 14-day ultimatum before it embarks on a three-day nationwide strike if nothing is done.
