In 2007, Dior Science therefore decided to support research programs at Stanford University for Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine, one of the most prestigious American institutes, dedicated to the latest research in adult stem cells* and their applications in reparative medicine. With this exceptional partnership, Dior provides the most in-depth understanding of skin ageing, and Stanford offers its extraordinary breakthroughs in the field of regenerative medicine. This unique commitment has allowed Dior to reveal a new power of within stem cells* and to further push back the frontiers of anti-ageing.

Whereas an epidermal cell divides 2 or 3 times, each stem cell* is capable of giving birth to a dozen or so “daughter” cells, which themselves produce about a hundred cells at the origin of the construction of a young and healthy epidermis. It is this capacity to produce large “cells colonies” that has made their precise identification possible. Stem cells* are the guardians to the secrets of life and beauty, for they help the skin remain visibly young and beautiful longer.

This discovery makes stem cells* Dior’s most complete breakthrough against aging. They are the real heart of youthfulness and beauty of the skin.

Dior Science goes one step further in revolutionising the cosmetics world with a new discovery: the stem cell’s* sphere of influence is felt on surrounding cells.

In addition to regenerating the epidermis, or upper layer of the skin, the effect of stem cells* is also felt at a deeper level of the dermis, where the most difficult to repair signs of ageing form. Stem cells* are important producers of cellular messengers and growth factors, destined to ensure their own growth, but which also act on all other surrounding cells in possession of adequate receptors. Among the growth factors, NGF (Nerve Growth Factor), is a messenger with a crucial role, as it has a 360° influence around the epidermal stem cells. Studies carried out by Dior have shown that one stem cell* produces 5,5 times more NGF than a simple keratinocyte.
