• Everybody in this room has the opportunity to go to school…. • There are 69 million primary aged children that are unable to attend school (as a result of poverty)

GENDER EQUALITY • 6 out of 10 people that are in poverty are women and girls…. • 66% (2-3rds *check math) of the primary aged children that are unable to attend school are girls. • Women are subjected to more violence in war/conflict and behind doors. • Out of all the leaders in the world, only 16% are women

CHILD MORTALITY • 8. 8 million children under the age of 5 die each year. • Over 3 million of these children die of diarrhea and pneumonia • Over 40% of all these deaths happen in the first month of birth

MATERNAL HEALTH • 1 woman dies every minute giving birth…. • That’s more than half a million women a year… • In poor countries, 28 out of 100 women that are pregnant, are attended by trained health professionals

HIV/AIDS,MALARIA & OTHER DISEASES • There are over 42 million people worldwide that are living with HIV… • In the past year, 3 million people have died of AIDS. • That’s more than any other infectious disease. • In poor countries, over 8,000 people a day die of AIDS. • Malaria kills an African child every 30 seconds.

ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY • 2.5 billion people don’t have access to improved sanitation… • 1.2 billion people don’t have access to an improved water source…

Leaders from around the globe want your help in coming up with solutions.

On this world tour, I’m going to be visiting countries all over the world and seeing these issues first hand. Think about this…. Out of all of these issues, which one do you feel the strongest about? or Which one affects you the most?
LETTERS OF HOPE.
The world leaders want to hear from you… Write a letter… It can be a few sentences or a few paragraphs, explaining how you feel about these issues and any suggestions that you have to fix them. Every letter will be read, but some of these letters will be read on national television and on the internet by some of your favorite celebrities. Your letter is going to help make the world a better place, and there are going to be a lot of surprises for the people who write them…. What are you waiting for… Start writing!
