Theatre Etiquette

• Be sure to use the restroom before the show! You don’t want to miss any of the action.

• Turn your cell phones off.

• Keep your feet off the back of the seats.

• Photography is never allowed!

• It is standard etiquette to applaud at the end of the show. Not only are you applauding for the performers, but also the hard work that everyone has put in behind the scenes!

• Above all, the theatre is truly a special place. Unlike movies or TV, what you see onstage is happening right before your eyes. The performers are giving their all, so it’s important that you give them your full attention.

Thank you and enjoy the show!

Did you know?

Annie is based off of a comic strip called "Little Orphan Annie" by Harold Gray. It was extremely popular and was one of the most widely read strips in the 1930s and 40s.

The eventual director of the show, Martin Charnin, bought a book of "Little Orphan Annie" comics for a friend for Christmas in 1970. He brought it home and read it, and became so inspired by it that he kept the book and assembled a team to create the musical!

• 23 producers originally turned down the musical.

• The original 1977 production ran for 2,377 performances and won 7 Tony® Awards, including Best Musical, Best Book of a Musical, Best Original Score, and Best Choreography

• Harold Gray, the creator of the comic strip, hated the musical.

• Annie has been translated into 28 languages and has played in over 34 countries!

• As of now, Annie is the 13th longest running musical in Broadway history.

• Annie was first made into a movie in 1982. Columbia Pictures bought the rights for $9.5 million, which was the biggest sale of a musical in theatre history at the time!

• "Tomorrow" is one of the most sung Broadway songs in history.
