Kevin O’Connor, former managing director of General Paints Group was honoured at the Kildare Business Awards 2022 on Thursday, 24th November, for his contribution to the business and local communities, winning the Outstanding Contribution to Business Award. Kevin received the award in recognition of his service and contribution as Chairman and Managing Director of Celbridge based General Paints Group for 38 years.

Premium Irish paint manufacturer, General Paints Group comprises two brands Colourtrend and Curator and have recently launched a Surface Protect product into the Colourtrend family - the first antiviral, antimicrobial paint of its kind in Ireland. The awards were organised and hosted by the County Kildare Chamber in The Killashee Hotel, with over 400 business leaders from across Kildare attending.

Speaking about receiving the award, Kevin O’Connor commented: “This really is an honour, and I am so proud to accept the award. I see it as a huge achievement and recognition of what we have built at General Paints Group – a thriving business and employer.

“Quality and innovation are at the heart of the business – bringing cutting edge technology and an unrelenting commitment to quality to the group brands, which has served the company well since it was formed almost 70 years ago.

“It has been a huge honour to lead the business for over almost four decades, to work with such a talented and passionate team at every level and see the development of a business going from strength to strength. Now, as I have stepped back from the business, I am very excited to have handed the reins over to my daughter Rachel and to see how she will continue to make her mark.

“Rachel is the third generation of our family to lead General Paints Group, and I have no doubt that she will be just as successful as previous generations in developing the company and leading the commitment to quality and innovation for decades to come.”
