Supporting All Aspects of Harker’s Mission Founding Principles Since our founding in 1893, Harker has been committed to the development of the whole child and to excellence across all domains. We call this our ABCCs:

A cademic Excellence B road Programs C haracter C ommunity Harker’s century-old whole-mission approach supports our students in reaching their full potentials and preparing them for success in college and beyond.

Building a World Class PK-12 School in Silicon Valley In 1998, Harker responded to the dramatic need in Silicon Valley for a non-sectarian, high quality, independent PK-12 school and launched the multiyear, multiphase Cornerstones Campaign to fund the construction of the necessary facilities. Phases 1-4: The positive impact and measurable results from the first four phases of the campaign have been made possible by the culture and tradition of philanthropy throughout the Harker family. Phase 5: Moving forward with the construction of a new theater and gymnasium on the Saratoga campus will help us solidify the foundation for building a world-class PK-12 school, further enhancing all aspects of Harker’s mission.

Phase 5: The Performing Arts Center & The Athletic Center The Challenge is On!

Two matching challenge gifts have been made to inspire the Harker community. First, the historic Rothschild $10M Matching Challenge Gift and the community’s response to this challenge put us into a position to finalize the design and permitting process. Now, the finish line is in sight. We have confidence in moving forward with construction because our history has shown that once an important project is scheduled to be built and the benefits are in sight, many Harker families feel more confident about participating in the campaign, while others who have already made initial pledges, decide to increase their gifts. Simply put, we are placing our trust in the Harker community to reach our goal prior to the completion of construction. With this confidence in our community, we plan to move forward now because the impact that these facilities will have on our students and families will be significant, which alone is a worthy reason to proceed now.

Construction Timeline: With faith that the Harker community will rise to the challenge, the following timeline has been established. MAY 2016: Groundbreaking Ceremony Construction Begins

MAY 2016 - DECEMBER 2017: Achieve capital campaign goal so we can complete construction of the buildings.

JANUARY 2018: Ribbon-Cutting Celebration Ceremony

The committee recommends that the administration move forward with the plan to build an up-to-date gymnasium and improved performing arts facilities.

Starting each day with orchestra really refreshed my mind and set a positive tone for the rest of the day. I learned how to be a leader outside of the classroom, and I realize how fortunate I was to live and breathe in this enriching environment that puts just as much emphasis on pursuing artistic passions as on achieving academic success.

Having friends who are techies, theater people, athletes or artists really showed me how diverse the options were. Harker is the school that made you feel as though you could do anything in life; you just had to find what it was that you wanted to do. Finding your passion was the most important goal of all, whether it was involvement in sports, clubs, Conservatory, etc. - Kaavya Cherukuri ‘11

For Our Students - Let’s Make It Happen! Those involved in the daily innovations of Silicon Valley realize something important: arts, athletics and numerous extracurricular activities allow students to use their learning to make a difference, providing critical skills for tomorrow’s workforce. These important activities are not something to be dismissed, but rather opportunities to celebrate, cherish and support.

Why should you give in proportion to your ability to do so to this important project? • You value building leadership, creativity, character through broad-based programming. • You understand the important role that the tradition of philanthropy has played in establishing the quality of our programs, and you have benefited by the generosity of those who have done their part before you, and want to do your part now to keep this important tradition alive. • You are grateful that your child is benefiting from his/her Harker experience and you wish to show your appreciation and help make the future even brighter for our students.

I think it is imperative that current parents and future parents and students of Harker recognize that the facilities they enjoy today were based on the contributions that their predecessors made. Without parent and student engagement, and without their contributions, what you see as ‘Harker’ today wouldn’t exist. It is incumbent upon you not only to provide for your students today but for the students who will - Gordon Ringold, Alumni Parent come later.

All of this is possible through your generosity and dedication. It reaches all members of the Harker community, making the school the phenomenal place that it is – a place where students can pursue their passions and succeed. -Jenny Chen ’13
