The Middle School Conservatory at Harker offers a multidisciplinary study of dance, drama, vocal music, instrumental music, technical theater and musical theater. At Harker, performing arts is a high-level, comprehensive K-12 program that guides advanced as well as new students. The middle school years are a perfect time to expand skills or to try something new! All of our performing arts classes, ensembles and performances foster students’ artistic affinities in middle school and prepare them for our upper school Conservatory groups, such as Orchestra, Cantilena, Kinetic Krew and Downbeat. The middle school is the perfect training ground, and our teachers are ready to challenge and encourage performers of any level to strive for their personal best. We recognize the importance of creative expression. Therefore, the arts are an integral part of our middle school academic requirements, and students watching and participating in these events richly enhances our whole community. We cultivate students’ interests with enriching academic electives and afterschool clubs and activities, including:

ARTS RECOGNITION

The Middle School Conservatory at Harker has a one-of-a-kind arts recognition program, which honors students who choose to go above and beyond in classes, ensembles, workshops and productions. Top Subject students in technical theater, theater, dance, musical theater, vocal and instrumental music will also be honored. Detailed information is provided to students each fall.

Summer @ The Conservatory, founded in 2018, provides high-quality, well-rounded performing arts education. Designed for those at any skill level interested in acting, students choose from several different summer programs and experience classes such as directing, storytelling and dance, workshops by industry professionals, and rehearsals for a final performance. • Musical Theater Intensive (by audition) - rising grade 5-10 students • Screen Acting Bootcamp - rising grade 5-12 students • Presents (theater production camp) - rising grade 5-9 students
